Okay, I know we've got a lot of RPers and want-to-RPers here at LA! Since the Chronicles can be either insanely fast or disturbingly slow depending on the schedules of the posters, it might be nice to have more variety for you guys! I was tossing around some ideas and was wondering if anyone was interested. I might not be able to post all the time, but at least every once and a while. Probably to get things moving initially.
RPG IDEA #1!11!1. Avatar: The Fires of Invasion (as in, the Last Airbender-Avatar. Not James Cameron-Avatar.)
Cut for length.
Spoiler
It has been twenty years since the start of the war, and it will be another eighty years until it is concluded.
After the death of his father, Fire Lord Azulon ascends to the throne of the treacherous Fire Nation. More bloodthirsty and cruel than his father ever was, Azulon immediately escalates the war. He hunts down the remnants of the Air Nomads. He kidnaps and tortures members of the Water Tribes, hoping to slowly exterminate all of their benders. He orders a large-scale invasion of the mighty Earth Kingdom, seizing massive areas of land and ruling over his new territories with an iron fist.
With the avatar unaccounted for, it is up to the brave citizens of the world to resist the forces of the Fire Nation for as long as possible.
COUNTRIES/GROUPS ----------------------------
The Fire Nation http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Fire_Nation
The 'bad guys.' The Fire Nation entered their version of the industrial revolution several decades ago, ushering in an era of prosperity. Fire Lord Sozin, hoping to spread this prosperity to the less fortunate corners of the world, hoped to unite the four nations under his rule. To do this, he began the great war and committed terrible sins in the name of unification. The Fire Nation is guilty of genocide, having wiped out the Air Nomads entirely by this point in history. The continue to conquer the world, one province at a time. Fire Nation warriors are firebenders, meaning they can manipulate and generate fire at will. The Fire Nation is the wealthiest nation (per capita) and has the most advanced technology in the form of fire tanks, iron-clad warships, and coal-driven factories.
The Earth Kingdom http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Earth_Kingdom
The strongest of the 'good guys.' The Earth Kingdom is the largest nation in the world, with the largest population. Its massive capital, Ba Sing Se, is surrounded by an impenetrable wall that has kept out invasions for countless years. The Earth Kingdom's large army is attempting to hold back the forces of the Fire Nation, but, lacking the same technology as their enemies, they are faltering. The Earth Kingdom is unfortunately crippled by internal corruption and a 'big brother' mentality that prevents news of the war from reaching its citizens. The Dai Li, a government organization, controls the media and maintains internal 'order.' The Earth Kingdom army is a mix of both earthbenders and common soldiers.
The Southern Water Tribe http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Water_Tribe
The southern water tribe leads a simple life. They are roughly the equivalent of the Inuit in real life. They live off the tundra, hunting seals and other animals for sustinence. Their primary mode of travel is by canoe, powered by water benders if posible, or by sled. The southern tribe lives in small communities all over the southern pole. They have largely avoided the war at this point, but raids against their people have ushered them into a more battle-ready state.
The Northern Water Tribe (see above)
More civilized than their southern relatives, the northern tribe is famous for its great ice fortress. Much like Ba Sing Se, it has never fallen to an enemy. The Fire Nation knows this, and has cautiously avoided a direct attack on the northern capital. The tribesmen here still hunt and fish, but they also have a rich culture in their cities. The northern tribe has a moderate-sized army that favors defense over offense. The tribe's royal family - something the southern tribe lacks - lives in their great ice fortress.
The Swamp People http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Foggy_Swamp_Tribe
Swamp people live in the swamps of the Earth Kingdom. They are essentially well-meaning hillbillies with the ability to manipulate water. They wear loincloths and hats made out of big leaves. Sort of like Robin Williams from Jumanji. They have a redneck drawl, and they eat swamp rats. However, they're always there to lend a hand. Especially when the Fire Nation threatens to burn all those important leaves.
Kyoshi Island http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Kyoshi_Island
Another Earth Kingdom offshoot. Kyoshi Island is a piece of land just off the coast of the Earth Kingdom, separated from the mainland by Avatar Kyoshi earlier in history. Kyoshi Island is an isolationist pastoral state, but, as they have been threatened by the Fire Nation, they have joined the other governments of the world. Kyoshi Warriors, elite female soldiers, are the island's signature military force. Most cannot earthbend, but the few Kyoshi Warriors that can are a force to be reckoned with.
BENDING ------------------
Waterbending Graceful, primarily defensive, and flowing. The moves come largely from Tai Chi. An elite subset of waterbending is blood-bending, in which you can essentially puppet master a target, but this can only be done on a full moon, and you must be a master.
Firebending Offensive, deadly, and full of aggressive energy. A subset is lightning-bending, which can only be done by masters with a cool head.
Earthbending A neutral (offensive and defensive) type of bending. You move rock, minerals, and anything that's generally dirt. Hurl boulders, sense vibrations through bedrock to detect movement. All that. Metalbending would not have been invented at this time.
Airbending Not available, since the only airbender is in an iceberg. Though if anyone wants to create another rogue Air Nomad...
The plot would largely focus on the Earth Kingdom attempting to repel one of many Fire Nation invasions in their history of warfare.
RPG IDEA #2: DC Superhero/Supervillain RPG Whether it's the animated universe or just the DC universe in general, superheroes and supervillains galore! No real plot thought up yet. I might sign up as Poison Ivy and cause some general mischief to get the ball rolling, and you super villains out there can run with it! I mean, that's your job as a super villain, right? Blow shit up? Possible inclusion of Marvel characters, for those who hate DC? Let's just... not worry much about the little details about making that feasible.
RPG IDEA #3: Greek Mythology Whether you play a Titan, an Olympian, a demigod, or mere mortal, the world of Greek mythology is always fun to play with. I can see this going the way of Herc or Xena given our RPers - part serious drama, part comedy. It's Greek mythology, after all. It's fun to mess with.
I love the avatar idea, really well thought out. I'd be in on that. I could go for some fire bendingly evil bad guy, team rocket esque. Catch me if you can, ke ke ke ke.
Ditto Elven. My new school schedule, part time job, and the general lack of internet in a bunch of places I now frequent has almost squeezed me out of LA completely (something I would very much regret) so I'm focusing all of my RP-attentions into LA Chron. Although the mythology one has arguably the most potential for awesome campaigns, it's also the one I'd tend to have the least interest in. Avatar and DC would be more interesting to me (particularly if we did a DC campaign involving the multiverse. That could get complicated, though....)
All in all, good ideas I can only be peripherally involved in at most just because of that the most nasty of L-words; life.
Frankly, I'd kind of prefer working out a way to have LA-Chron adventures maintain a more even keel. I do see how irregular posting schedules is making it hard (It's almost killed the WotG thread...IDK, 5 times?)
These are great! I would love the greek mythology one, and ive always liked Avatar. Although i think a really good narrative would be imperative there. If we did a superhero one, i would rather us create our own comic universe.
I got one:
RPG Idea # 5: HEIST IN A WORLD where organised crime is becoming more and more rare, it is up to us to form the most elite team of thieves and professional con-men ever gathered to pull off the craziest and most astounding string of robberies and heists ever performed. Each character with a specialised niche, we will plan, prepare and perform heists in the holy names of greed, friendship and the lolz! So get ready to hit big jobs from Vegas to the Louvre making our fortunes and laughing at the Establishment as we overcome the numerous challenges of crime and stick it to The Man in the most audacious fashion possible!
Anyone else for a Hogwarts RP? The end may not have to be the end of Hogwarts. We could have it start in the time period where the book/movie ends - or we could set it when the next generation are around.
Well I was going to make my own thread on here but decided not to after seeing Selena already made one.
One thing I want to say is after returning back from my hiatus i was quite displeased about this section in general. I am not saying anything bad about those who are running it because frankly they are doing a fine job. The problem really lacks on what Selena here is trying to fix, we need other kinds of RPs. In my returning I was really pumped to create a new character and get back into Rping. I haven't really done a RP since well... here so that was some time ago now. The role playing has come down to just one story the LA Chronicles and since it's creation I have never been interested in being a part of it. I know that it has done well in getting some people into RPing that have never done it before which is awesome I just never have been interested.
Selena is right that we need some other type of story for those who DON'T want to be part of the Chronicles or for those who just want another type of story. One thing I think that should first be asked is how many people DO Rp on here? I can see that through this thread there WAS quite a few I am not sure how many are on hiatus.
Another is what types of interests do people have? I can say that I am not to much of a medieval setting kind of person :x
As for the ideas presented I would either be interested in Selena's avatar idea (I actually had started the creation of one with Delphi YEARS ago) or the Hogwarts one. Either way I would participate in either one just do get into the feel again.
Other ideas I would have... (no plot lines made)
*Star Wars? Or at least some sort of space RP
*Some sort of class like setting..like final fantasy.. dungeons and dragons? Anything really...
*Since a lot of people do the LOTR online we could do an RP in that world since it is pretty vast :x
*Some sort of class like setting..like final fantasy.. dungeons and dragons? Anything really...
*cough* Both of these have been attempted and died after a month or two (Though Dragon Lords ended up going on for quite awhile longer than that, I think)
Hey well they were just ideas o.o and a month or two isn't that bad. I just know that there has to be SOME members besides myself that would like to do something outside of the Chronicles >.>
I like the Avatar Idea, I spent all afternoon at work looking at the background between the tribes.
If we wanted to, I could build a Hogwarts RPG, kinda similar to the "School" RPG from many years ago and the "LAville University" from a couple of years back. I'd just need some people who'd be into it for it to be worth it.
I was going to look into building one as well the hogwarts one I think would be the best one for us to do for starter Rpers since you know the SChool setting was just as good. Goose we could work on the bio together? I was looking into maybe setting it in the future of the end of the last book..as in the Epilogue setting (don't want to spoil much there for those who haven't read it) it could be simple that like what..15 years or whatever it is in the setting it would be easy to place a random death eater as the new main villain
Just make a post in the character thread with your character, then start up the actual thread. Have a look at the first post of Lunar Fall for a general idea of stuff you might want to put in the thread, but other than that go out and have fun.
Even so, we might work a up a introductory post between the two of us and post it, so that people considering joining can have something to reference to. We can even do some marketing LA times style.
good idea Goose I was thinking the same thing I don't think we have a lot of high traffic here so Commons and our dorm could be a good idea. Thanks Steel! Nice to not have a huge deal to get it going.
I wanted to do something like that at least the space thing :x I have never really tried it..but cowboy bebop like world could be cool with the whole future..and different planets thing
I'm willing to partially resurrect it if people are interested in playing.
Yes.
I have have been keeping my banner becuase I was hoping this would continue at some point. If we can get over the Spook roadblock it should be no problem to continue.
How about doing a FF8 RPG, but with the children of the main characters? It can include the original cast, but it will be based with the younger generation.
