Do we humans have a true purpose?

Sorry, if that seemed rude. I truly am. I did give you fair warning though, remember? I did say i'm not as nice as arun in my apologetics.
[Deleted by Reflectionist - God forbid I post Scripture]
Does that make any sense?
Note from arunma: to use the quote tags, you have to write QUOTE= followed by the name of the person or thing you are quoting.

If you sin, you will go to hell.
Jesus died in place of anyone who accepts that gift.
So, if you acknowledge that Jesus died for you, yor debt has been paid already so you won't go to hell.
Why not just acknowledge Jesus died for you? You've got nothing to lose, if you're a non-believer. Someone worked it out:
If there is no god, and you say you don't believe, you have lost nothing and gained nothing.
If there is no god, and you say you do believe, you have lost nothing and gained nothing.
If there is a god, and you say you don't believe, you have lost everything and gained nothing.
If there is a god, and you say you do believe, you have lost nothing and gained everything.
So you may as well say you believe whatever the case.

I think I first introduced that? Or, at least, I introduced it at some point... my sunday school teacher always would say that, because we were on the same evangelist team (yeah, we're protestants, irrelevant)
Everyone's born a sinner. Everyone is born a sinner because of... Adam. Adam sinned, and God was like "huh-uh, oh no you di'int" So, by reputation, the Human race are sinners. Many people have tried to get to heaven via other religions, but, you know those guys, muhammad, and what not, they're still dead.
Christ rose from the grave. That, is what Christianity is all about. If he didn't, did the disciples just pull all of that stuff about the Great Commision and whatnot out of their behinds?? I didn't think so.
No, you're right. Its impossible to humanity to make such a ficticious story as eternal salvation. In fact, because we can't pull such storis out of our asses, stories such as the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Ender's Game, I, Robot and other such tales ARE IN FACT TRUE. Yes, that's right. Humanity doesn't have the creativity to come up with such crazy stories, so they must have happened.
In case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic.
Reflectionist, I found your comments about non-Christians going to hell to be rather arrogant. You can voice your opinion here, but you can't preach. You can voice your opinion here, but you have to do it with some tact. You can voice your opinion here, but you cannot persecute other people. I notice a hit against Mohammad in your post.
This is an insult to the Muslim faith, and if Khuffie were to find out, I'm sure he'd be enraged, on a scale from mild to thoroughly.
arunma...I'm going to PM you about something, instead of putting it here. As there have been issues in the past.
Showsni... It is hard to pretend you believe something. For example, my best friend is dating the girl I'm in love with, and I am extremely hard-pressed to pretend I am happy with the situation. In reality, I'm quite miserable, and it taxes my energy to pretend I am happy. I seriously come home every day and pass out.
The point is, its hard to pretend you believe something you don't. You can say you do, but if God exists, he'll know you're lying (on account of the whole omniscient thing).
Anyway, I guess that's it for now.

You do have a point, but I have yet to see proof that the Bible is fictitious. And if you can't prove that... then what are you basing your beliefs on?

Hypocrisy? You're insulting people. I make all my points through sarcastic analogy. Its how I am. I'm not trying to insult you. I'm pointing out that stories can be made up. Its not a foreign idea. I'm not saying the Bible is necessarily fake, but don't act like there isn't a remote possibility.

And, if anything, do not, repeat, DO NOT, put words into my mouth. Do NOT tell me that I am being insulting. I am not being insulting. You are. If you have the nerve to come into a CONTRO topic about Religion and then piss all over someone elses beliefs, then in all honesty, you ought to be shot. I, was just stating my beliefs, thank you very much. If you don't want to believe otherwise... fine. DON'T. show me where it says you have to, and then I might be a little nicer to you.[/quote]
Put words into your mouth. You were talking about Jesus rising from the dead and making something of his religion, not like Mohammad. That's insulting.
Controversial topics have rules too. Maybe you didn't notice him. They are up at the top of the page when you first come in here. Read them over. And I'm not pissing all over your beliefs. My policy is, and always has been, "Believe what makes you happy." Atheism makes me happy and secure. Christianity must make you happy and secure. So, I don't care if you believe it.
However, some preachy attitudes I don't tolerate. I don't try to convert people to atheism, because then they aren't believing what makes them happy. They're believing what makes me happy for them to believe...which is just dumb. You shouldn't believe what other people want you to believe...you should believe what you want to believe.

I'm just trying to state my beliefs.
Apparently, i can't do so without stepping on people's toes..
Sorry for being an avid Christian.

Christianity cracks me up! What such convenient answers, that can't be proven...

Well, the point is, we have variety in the modship and participation here in Contro. The problem with that is, many people get offended when someone voices their beliefs as bluntly as saying "I think you're going to hell."
There is no problem with you voicing your opinions. Its how you voice them.

No, I won't close the topic. If Granite were in my place, he would, because he's strict with the rules (probably a good policy). But that's not my style, so let me set some ground rules.
First: No insulting Islam! For that matter, no insulting any religion. Glib remarks about the Islamic prophet and other such things can't be tolerated.
Second: People are allowed to state the beliefs of their respective religions, but be careful with wording. Christianity says that non-Christians go to hell, so you can say that. But use discretion. Don't say things that are clearly adversarial.
OK, everybody happy? If anyone starts trouble, the topic gets closed and yo asses are in jail.
...no, I'm not referring to anyone in specific with the jail thing.

Just saying. Christians take pride in their religion because we believe that Jesus is the only religious leader still alive... Not trying to do any religion (or, lack thereof) bashing. okay?

Besides, how can we preach the Gospel if we don't do so with grace? I met this insane, anti-semitic, hellfire preacher on campus today, who was spewing blasphemies out of his @$$. He's gained one convert in 30 years.
I think I'll make a ranting thread about it later.

And, in a related story about weirdos on campus....
I am rumored (ew!) to have a crush on my former History Teacher... it all started with an offhand comment about her pregnancy.
