I already posted this, but I thought it would be much easier to find in the long run, and much easier to update and refer back to for all of us, if it had its own topic. I've also updated it a bit to ensure that everything is in the proper order, and I will keep this post up to date (not the one in Jumbie's topic). Let me know if you find any missing translations from this list. Thanks to Jumbie and jacensolo06, of course, for actually doing the translations.

I still need to update this, so let me know if you see any missing translations.

I think it would be appropriate to add MJJ's translations as well, at least for certain things. Though I think she's mostly doing interviews, which aren't really covered here.

Thanks a lot Milk, but one question. What word is used for "underworld"?

Good question, should have looked at that closer.
I translated "ankoku," as "underworld," which it could work as, depending on the context
however the literal translation would be "darkness."
I felt like if I put "darkness," in there a third time it would get over-wordy.
The reason for this is because there a gazillion ways to say "darkness" in Japanese
and they're all a bit different when in English, we don't have so many.

This is from Four Swords Adventures. It is said by princess Zelda before you defeat Ganon.

闇の王…　太古から　よみがえった　魔の邪器（じゃき）、トライデントを手にした男！！
"The King of Darkness... the one who called forth a demonic weapon from ancient times, is the one who holds the Trident!!"

*The word "kami," is used here which translates to BOTH "God/s," and "Spirit/s." The reason for this is rooted in the Shinto religion in which people's (and others') spirits eventually reach a god-like status, but not to be confused with a mono-theist God status; it's more like a poly-theist God status... So I can't really say it should be spirit or god, but in English it's -closer- to spirits because it doesn't carry an "Alpha and Omega," exaltation.----When translating this, it most naturally flows in "Tower of the Gods," because it's "Kami no Tou," literally "Tower of the Gods," but when you localize it into Western culture it's better suited to "Spirit Tower."

**Deego I guess is the Japanese name of the main villain.

Where is this text from? Some sort of magazine, but was discovered at some sort of Japanese wiki.

This is questionable because Link's adventures aren't in quotations, meaning I don't know if he means things that Link DOES, or an actual game title.

Let's say it could be either:

Miyamoto: (Ocarina of Time -> A Link to the Past) are the basis and then Link starts his adventures.

OR

Miyamoto: (Ocarina of Time -> A Link to the Past) are the basis for "Link's Adventure."

Or, if translating with first instead of basis, we can say:
(Ocarina of Time -> A Link to the Past) then comes the first and "The Adventure of Link."

It means:

in ALttP a person might say "Protect the princess."

and then in OoT a person says, "Protect the princess."

They recycled some of the dialogue.

I find it entertaining how people keep asking her to waste her time translating things Jumbie already did (rather than the many untranslated things we need more), and so far every single one has proven Jumbie right anyway.

Not sure if this is any help, but she DID criticize Jumbie on one occasion:

milk, if you don't mind me asking, another fan had previously translated that part as the following:
"This time, the stage is set very long before the time when Link accomplished a feat, the epoch when Hyrule was still one kingdom."

Would you say the translation was accurate as well? I mean, was the translator wrong about Link accomplishing a feat?

Another thing that made us doubtful about that translation (the old one, not yours) is a rumor that says that the same words used for "accomplished a feat" could read as "will accomplish a feat", changing the entire verbal tense. You think that's valid too?

IMO, that's a very weak translation by someone who isn't familiar with the language.

Let me break the sentence down for you.

今度の舞台はリンクが活躍した頃よりも遥か昔、ハイラルが、まだ一つの王国であった時代。
Konkai no butai ha RINKU ga katsuyaku shita goro yori mo haruka mukashi, HAIRARU ga, mada hitotsu no oukoku de atta jidai.

(literal translation)
konkai=this time
no=possessive
butai=stage

(In this stage)

ha-particle

RINKU=Link
ga-particle
katsuyaku- activity
shita-past tense ending
goro-around that time
yori-more, rather
mo-particle
haruka-distant
mukashi-long ago

(In this stage)(very long before Link did his activity)

HAIRARU-Hyrule
ga-particle
mada-yet/still
hitotsu-counter for "one"
no-possessive
oukoku-kingdom
de-particle "in"
atta-past tense verb ending
jidai-period of time

(In this stage)(very long before Link did his activity)(in the time when Hyrule was still one kingdom).

That's a breakdown of that sentence, LITERALLY.

Here are the problems with the translation quoted above:

"accomplished a feat"-katsuyaku doesn't really mean to do anything definitively. It just states that there was some kind of ongoing action, not just ONE certain thing.

About tense here:
This CANNOT, under any circumstance, be translated as present tense.
This is because the verb is conjugated like this: "katsuyaku shita," in which "shita," is the past tense verb ending.
So...there should be no argument there at all. If I were to conjugate in present tense, it would be, "katsuyaku suru."

"Epoch," is a very bad word to choose. This is because in English, it can take on more than one meaning, and it can make a reference that "epoch" is something that has been written down. We don't know if it has been written down in Hyrule's history or not, so we need a plainer word. The translator chose to turn "jidai," into "epoch."
Now, in casual speaking japanese "jidai," translates to "period of time," literally.

So I can say "daigakusei no jidai..." which means "When I was a college student,"
Or "Taisho-jidai ni.." which means, "In the Taisho era..."

So in the end of this sentence, "HAIRARU ga, mada hitotsu no oukoku de atta jidai."
it would most naturally become, "...when Hyrule was still one kingdom."
or, because the use of English is open ended there (in Japanese, this sentence is NOT open ended) we can throw in
"...when Hyrule was still (united as) one kingdom."
Which brings it closer to the natural tone of the original Japanese.

Does that make more sense?

Newest translation from MJJ on the force in the beginning of TMC as Impossible requested.
This is all text, no images, so MPS can look over this if he wants to.

1) Where is this text from?: It's from the beginning of TMC, when Vaati comments on the force he's searching
for and the power of the royal family.

2) Why does it need to be translated?: Because the US and European versions have differing translations, and while the US one is presumably the accurate one, it may help to know what ambiguities and definitive elements exist in the original text. The game's only direct use of the word "Hylian" is also in this dialogue, and there may be some implications about Zelda's powers.

Translation:

TMC, Vaati's Comments.

Image One:
ハイラルの王家に伝わる
ピッコルの剣と封印の宝箱。。。
The PIKKORU sword handed down in the generations of the
Hyrule royal family is sealed inside a lockbox...

Image Two:

What's sealed inside of that lockbox
is no doubt what I've been searching for...
