Loving how the episodes are going as of late. Greed is sucking up all the screen time and the doctor with the gold tooth makes one dastardly move with one of Roy's "chesspieces".

Somehow, even Dante from the 2003 Anime manages to get a cameo.

Wait, what? When does Dante show up?

Episode 58. There's a scene with an old couple talking about the brilliant light and Radio Capital. Look at the elderly woman. She's never referred to by name, but she does look like Dante. Not Lyra mind you, but Dante.



Mind you, it's only a very abrupt scene and merely a cameo appearance. Also, we don't get to see her too close up, so it could just be any old woman with a slight passing resemblance but it's similar enough.

Well, if Lyra had a cameo in the Brotherhood anime, I haven't noticed it yet. Like how Lin's supposed to have had a cameo in the 2003 anime (which I still haven't seen yet).

I've been reading the manga long before the series started, so I knew what was going to happen throughout. The anime didn't surprise me at all.

I just saw the ending to Brotherhood and I have to say

it was much more lighthearted than the first anime. I'm kinda happy it went into a positive direction, I'm a fan of the scenario where everyone lives. But because it seems so happy that I kinda feel like it was sort of cheap, no depth to it.

It was a resolution. That I enjoyed. Like a proper end to a story, where these fuckers fought and fought and finally it all paid off. There was plenty of angst and emotional turmoil throughout the series itself, that an ending where they finally got it right, and could finally settle down after all the shit they went through, was rather welcome.

I don't think it was rather cheap ending. After all, so many people died. It did seem rather strange that everybody would just stand around and let Ed beat the pulp out of Homunculus. Seeing what he'd done and that Ed had managed to strip him of his power, I'm sure those soldiers would have rushed in to help Ed beat the living daylights out of that creep.

What I did find cheap, however, was the toll that Ed paid for bringing Al back. It was so simple and didn't really cost Ed much at all. Sure, he couldn't do Alchemy anymore, but his alchemical background gives him a good standing to get into other jobs. Especially with the chemistry background it entails. I would have thought that Al's life was worth more than that.

Yeah it did seem a little too easy but in a way it makes sense. It wasn't just his ability to perform alchemy he was giving up, it was also knowlege of world, universe, everything. The act itself was saying he much rather have his brother back and live as normal human limited in his knowlege than to know everything. It was an act of humility. Maybe alchemy got it wrong and it really is meant to be as simple as that.

True, but Ed never really seemed to have access to that knowledge. He was granted access to the ability to transmute without forming a transmutation circle, but that's about it. Perhaps it requires a lot of knowledge to do that, but it's not exactly "conscious" knowledge. It's more innate. The kind of thing you do without knowing how to. And as such, that really seems a rather cheap price to pay for a human life.

I believe that the 2003 anime got the price right. One human life is equal to exactly one human life, as King Bradley said during the Ishbalan Genocide.

Didn't the original anime also mention something about how they should be able to trade their bodies for the 4 years of hell they went through? There was also a point raised of the "unfairness" of alchemy when Ed was rejecting Father's "truth", saying how it wasn't right that Mustang had refused to perform the alchemy but was still punished anyway after someone else literally used him as a puppet. Perhaps there was a subtle underlying commentary on just what can be considered equal value to something completely different. Ed had access to infinite knowledge, meaning in a way he had access to infinite power. It was his entire life and livelihood, as well as the access to the knowledge and skills that were so integral in his life that he gave up. In my mind the two boys had already put a deposit down on the price with all the things they went through and the people they lost as a result of an imbalance in the universal system that was biased against them from the get go.

Your interpretation has its merits, Lazu. Perhaps I should think of it that way.
