"Not quite. I'm here as a bodyguard. I'm just here that things don't go out of control . . . to a major extent anyway."
He looked up at the sky, following Leo's earlier example.
"I'm Jordan. I'm with the Forsaken Fortress. And from what I've heard, you're with the Lost Woods."

"Besides, I'd rather not have to worry about being a part of the talks. Listening in is just fine with me."
Jordan looked over to his glaives and pushed them further to the side, the long weapons taking up crucial comfort space.
"Now if they'd only start talking."

He had people enraptured with his story, so much so that they had to pretend that they were not enjoying the story at all. He was though, and thats all that mattered.

Selena cleared her throat. "Goose! Shut up! Now, where was I? Oh, yes."
"The dorms once ruled the entire land before Khuffie united the backwards nations that we had plundered. In order to restore our dominance, it is our duty to destroy Khuffie and the Alliance. To do this, we will take the capital city of Olimandias. With a large number of his forces stationed in the ruined Van'Duras, now is our best opportunity to move. My plan requires two separate attacks. The first attack will be on Ur'Almen, the capital of Uradiel. This attack will initially look like a follow up to what happened at Van'Duras. It will lure even more soldiers down out of the northern nations and the capital. The attackers will not have to succeed in taking Ur'Almen, but it will be all the better if they can. This could easily be done by the Ikana, as they are close to the border."
"The second attack is more complicated. The second attack is on Olimandias itself. To strike the capital, we need to land a large army on the eastern shores of the central nations. The obvious problem? The Alliance Navy. While the Lost Woods and Ikana Canyon have the naval technology to land troops if the sea is secure, the only dorm that can actually fight off Khuffie's armada is the Forsaken Fortress. Winning control of the Alliance shoreline will require a sea battle of epic proportions. Once we have dominion over the sea, we can land our troops."
"From there," Selena continued, "the armies will march on Olimandias. The Labyrinth will reinforce you from our tunnel system. Together, we will swarm Khuffie's palace and kill him. Without Khuffie, the government will crumble. That will be the death of the Alliance. From that point, the disunited nations will be easy pickings. It is a large, potentially risky operation. But it's one that will be inevitable. Khuffie will keep pushing out until he conquers the dorms. We must prevent that. Our best chance to kill him is now."
She was quiet for a moment, then waved at the other representatives. "If you have any comments or suggestions, now is the time to speak."

"Cooperation among the dorms is large enough stretch as it is, but to go as far as to trust the labyrinth? Do you take us for a mob of fools?!" He protested at Selena.
"How could we trust a group that probably can't keep their own in check?!"

"Removing Khuffie from power requires all of us to work together. The Labyrinth cannot do it alone, and more importantly, the Labyrinth is not the only one to profit from such an operation. With the Alliance gone, the Fortress will have total control of the Lalvican Sea. Khuffie's armies will stop advancing into the western half of the Lost Woods. Ikana could easily claim Lanasach for themselves and expand their area of control. All the dorms will benefit from overthrowing the Alliance. And frankly, as commanding officer of the Labyrinth, I do not really want to fight the concentrated armies of all three dorms at once. There's a difference between being a power hungry empress and being an idiot."
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Breaking out with a cliche was always a good thing. "If you really want to, we can go back to killing each other after Khuffie and the Alliance are gone. For right now, however, working together, even if we hate each other, is a priority. The sheer fact that a Labyrinth representative is even talking to you or coming out into the open at all is a sign that we're taking this potential union seriously."

"I suppose I have to hand it to you to try and orchestrate all of this. You'll hear no more from me. But you can keep your damn flattery, you filthy relic."
With that Jordan left the tent a second time. He grabbed his second glaive and headed towards the shore. He passed Leo, who had taken his place to overhear the talks, not even saying a word. He thought about what he just did. Was that really him in that tent? He shook off his questions for now, the ocean air might do him some good.

Goose had to know. It seemed as though they were to replace one overlord with another, only one a lot more violent than the original.
"What will stop the Labyrinth from becoming power hungry warlords once we complete this task?"

"Ladies and Gentlemen." He said, in a normal, conversational voice. They took no notice.
"Ladies and Gentlemen!" Slightly louder. Still no effect. Damn. He hated doing this, but desperate times called for desperate measures. Steel sat upright, stood up, kicked his chair away, and leapt on top of the table.
"LISTEN TO ME YE BUNCH OF SNIVELING PANSY BITCH POLITICIANS, OR BY DIEL'S LEFT TESTICLE I'LL SEND YE ALL T' NEPTUNE'S WATERY BEARD, WHERE YE AND YER SPEECHES BELONG, YEW INCOMPETENT, LANDLUBBERLY, BLUSTERING PUSSIES!"
The room was dead silent.
Diel. He hated doing that. He'd been forced to gain considerable acumen in pirate bluster when he first joined the Fortress, as one of his first assignments as Dark Juno's personal assassin had been to infiltrate one of the top Fortress Admirals' fleet as a captain and assassinate the man. Once he gained the position he now had, of course, the pirates learned very quickly that he spoke softly but punished harshly for any seeming loss of hearing ability.
Steel, still standing on the table, surveyed the envoys critically.
"Ladies and Gentlemen. A decision presents itself before us. One which, should we succeed, will change the world. Khuffie and his lackeys have had free run of this land for far too long. I only recently discovered a plot intended to remove any remaining limits on his power within the Alliance. It is long overdue that that madman should pay for his hubris in thinking he could rule the world. The time has come to kill Khuffie. But there are none of us that can do it by ourselves. The Fortress can control the seas, but would fail in a land assault. The woods could win in a guerilla war on their own turf, but never in open battle. The canyon would lose as soon as winter came upon the land. And the Labyrinth's tunnels would eventually be found out, and their home overrun by superior numbers. Thus, in order to defeat Khuffie we must band together. Some of you protest to allowing one who was once your mortal enemy to lead you, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Should we win, the Labyrinth will still be incapable of conquering any single dorm without a long and costly fight, the Royal Family of the Labyrinth still as incestuous and tumultuous as before, no single leader able to truly rid it of its many factions and loyalties in the near future. However, should we allow things to progress as they are, Khuffie will gain absolute power over the Alliance, able to raise as much money as he wishes to crush any of us, and believe me, he will do it. Better the demon that we know," He looked at Selena and, unseen to all others, winked at her, "Than the demon whose full power is as yet unknown."
He nodded to the assembled diplomats, and sat down.

"We wouldn't know unity if it came and bit us right in the ass. The dorms will always fight among themselves, that's the sad truth. Although Khuffie is the enemy, I don't believe the people should suffer for their ruler."
Jordan sat on the sand and stretched himself out. The sun felt good and the breeze was just right.
"If you ask me Leo, if this massacre is all we can do to stop Khuffie then we are no better than he is."

"Goose, you know exactly where my loyalties lie. As for your other question, the Labyrinth is not an evil empire in the same way that the Legends Alliance is. Khuffie constantly expands and claims land for himself. Although the Labyrinth has periodically warred against foreign entities to the north of our home, we seldom keep any land we've conquered. We're a race of underground warriors. We do not care for light, which means that creating an above ground empire is not our wish."
"I can't promise total peace after we've conquered Khuffie. What I can promise is the rise of a new great era of dorms - a return to the old ways. Before Khuffie began his conquests, this land was ruled entirely by the ancient domains. We had unlimited freedom to move and do as we liked. With Khuffie, we've been locked away in small territories. Those continue to grow smaller as Khuffie continues to push out from the central nations. Ikana has already lost Hatena. The western border of the Woods keeps getting moved. And at some point, unless we stop them now, the Alliance Navy will eventually overshadow the Fortress. After that happens, it's only a matter of time before the Fortress itself is destroyed and Khuffie has total control of the Lalvican."
"The pirate bodyguard said I was a filthy relic. If you're in a dorm, you don't get to be a 'relic' unless you're able to survive for as long as I have. This is what our operation would be. Survival. Take it from the dorm who managed to live through two full reformations and a series of calamities. Unless you act now, the dorms will cease to exist before your children grow to adulthood."

Jordan, sitting on the shore watching the waves roll back and forth, was only human. And humans can only do so much. Then why was it that some people go through hoops just to be more than who they are? Why be extraordinary? Things should be simple. Leave complications behind or else you find yourself in your own personal hell, just like Weizel Grande. Jordan stood up, finally bored of the scenery in front of him.
"I wonder what they have at the other tent?" He asked himself.

While everyone was discussing things and starting to argue, Goose noticed a little halfling like creature stand in the center of the circle and announce that he'd go and murder Khuff. Goose had no choice but to proclaim.
"You have my toe" and he shoved his foot up on the nicely situated table in the middle of the discussion area, and pointed to his now razor sharp big toe on his right foot.

As if he were heard, he started to see the black silhouettes of buildings rising over the horizon, covering a wide range. He had been riding for hours straight without stopping, his rage and his determination having left him netally exhausted, and he actually began to laugh at seeing his destination appear.
Then, as if to taunt him, fate had given him yet another cold slap to the face. What appeared to be his perfectly healthy horse, which could keep going for at least an entire day and night, had stumbled on a loose rock in the ground and toppled over hard. Shadow was thrown off the steed's back and yelled out in surprise as he went soaring a few feet through the air before rolling along the ground in a heap. He let out a weak moan before taking a look to see what had become of the horse he had borrowed... only to see that its head had suffered a rather grotesque gash so bad that it was leaking brain matter. It went without saying that it was dead.
Shadow cried out in disappointment before resuming his prone position on the ground, simply too hurt and too tired to make any real attempts at movement. It wasn't as if he had to be at Olimandias as soon as possible, did it? The attack wouldn't take place for another couple of days at least, he still had plenty of time to discover the Alliance's defenses and screw them up.
"Oh, fuck this, I'll get back on track after a nap..." he grumbled before allowing himself to slumber for a little while...

"Want something?" The bartender asked. Jordan hesitated to answer, the bartender was kinda scrawny and pale. Perhaps he was a member of the Labyrinth. Jordan took a stool and sat to the far end.
"Harvest Ale." He asked.
"Don't have that one." The Bartender replied, taking a mug to clean.
"Red Crow?"
"Nope."
"Griffin?"
"You talking about the beast?" The bartender asked with a confused look on his face.
This was irritating.
"What the hell do you have?" Jordan asked.
The bartender poured a mug of something red. He slid the cup over to Jordan, who was somewhat startled by it's appearance. Jordan took a sip of the mystery beverage. He tasted it for a moment. It wasn't half bad. He reached for some gold to give him when the bartender said:
"First drinks are free."
Jordan took another gingerly sip of the drink. It reminded him of a drink he had with a friend back in the days he wanted to be a soldier in the Alliance military. A servant of justice and peace. They had their good moments, but ultimately they ended in disappointment. He looked at his reflection in the red drink. His hair had gotten longer and he was beginning to grow a beard. He hadn't had the time to shave. Really, he looked so grungy, it was no surprise no one in that damn tent was taking him seriously. He took another sip and decided to think about days past, just for a little while longer.

A momentary lull had fallen on the gathering. Steel surveyed the assembled faces. It seemed only the most die hard of the opposition (including Bob) were still opposed to the war. Well then. Time to stir up some more noise. Noise which would likely take twice as long to settle down as the last one. Steel hated these meetings, but he had to do what he had to do.
"Subject, of course, to Lord Juno's approval, the Fortress will lend the expedition its aid. However, as we have much to risk and little to gain as things stand, for our part we ask precisely half of the sum total of plunder collected from Olimandias, the immediate cession of Rhonos Island on the capture of the capitol, and landing and repair privileges at all dorm ports for eternity."
He sat back down to watch the fireworks begin.

"Did you hear what he said? He can't just make demands on..."
"Rhonos Island was given to us during the post-war armistice, and it was agreed upon by all the dorms. The dorm that lost the war shouldn't have any authority to reverse that decision!"
"Those are completely outrageous demands. Let the Fortress make their own landing and march to Olimandias if they're going to be so stubborn. The Woods, Canyon and Labyrinth can march inland on their own power. A sea landing isn't really necessary, is it?"
"But if Khuffie still has a full navy, then he can transfer so--"
Selena cleared her throat. "Ladies and gentlemen..."
"If Khuffie has a full navy, then let the pirates be gunned down like the seadogs they are! Once he loses his land, Khuffie won't be able to set foot on the shore again."
"Shut the hell up or I'll order all the alcohol to be dumped in sea!" That did it. Now that she had their attention, Selena tried to calm the situation down as much as she could, occasionally sending glares over to Steel. "Back in my day, whoever wanted plunder had to get their first. As for whether the sea landing is necessary, it would help immensely. It would allow us to drop troops off quickly, before Khuffie has a chance to gather them back from Van'Duras and Ur'Almen. We could technically do it the old fashioned way and march all the way to Olimandias, but that would require a lot more effort and a lot more bloodshed."
She tapped her fingers against her arm, pondering over what would give every dorm an incentive. "All right. Ikana will be given full control of the Lanasach province as well as Ur'Almen. The Lost Woods will be able to push their western border out beyond the forest, down into the northern Alliance nations. The Forsaken Fortress will be allowed to keep any ships the joint strike force is successful in capturing and get total access to plunder from the wreckage of any Alliance ships taken out during the battles. The Fortress will also be awarded Hatena, the Alliance's largest port city, as well as any minor ports on the coastline not controlled by any of the other dorms. Beyond that, the rest is up for grabs by whoever can muster the forces necessary to manage whatever you conquer."
"Is that fair enough?"

"The Fortress retracts it's earlier demands and now presents new ones. All diplomats present, save for Selena and Goose, must lick my boots. Attractive females may kiss my cheek instead." They did so. Steel's black leather boots were now spit-polished, and his cheeks had quite a bit of lipstick on them.
"And now, I must consult with Lord Juno and have him approve these plans."
He got up and left the tent, motioning for Jordan and Ken.

Deciding the compulsion was all hokey, he decided to do something else to pass the time. Like try a new spell. Nothing that could hurt anybody, but something that would result in much fun for all.
"Beer and Bubbles, Deer and Stubbles, take away all our troubles. "
And a light hearted feeling started to eminate from the surrounds of Goose, and all who stood near him became light hearted and walked around as if they were floating on air. They all seemed to forget whatever they were focusing on, and just started wanting to nibble on strange things and saying "Dude!" and "sweet" a lot. The circle of, well, sweetness man, was growing, and Goose wondered if all would be consumed by the like, dude, woaaaaaaaaaah, a golden turlehead man LOOK!
