"It serves you right. Stay out of my way," Ken spoke curtly as he went on his way.
Ken continued on his way to the tavern, and soon found himself at the spot, entering The Gurgling Duck. He took a look at Steel, and remembered him issuing those orders--pain arose in his back temperarily. Taking a seat next to him, Ken found himself unable to look directly at the pirate admiral.
"The ship has been properly docked sir."

Well, Ken attitude certainly hadn't improved over the last little while; if anything, it'd gotten worse. After ripping off a small piece of his new vest and wrapping it around his wound as a makeshift bandage, he found his way to the Gurgling Duck and went inside.
The bar didn't seem to have any shortage of customers; it was packed with people, mostly pirates from the recently-docked ship. After a moment of searching, he spotted Ken again, this time with Steel who was sitting down and enjoying a drink.
Well, time to see if his disguise would work with the blind samurai. He took a seat at the counter, only being close enough to Steel to hear him amongst the other chatter in the bar, and cleared his throat; he couldn't let his voice tip Steel off. "Barkeep, I'll have some of that new beer, please." he said, making his voice sound deeper and more jaded.

"Give 'em is drink" Russel, the barkeeper told Tseb as he wiped the dirty bar with an even dirtier cloth.
Tseb moved the three feet down the bar to where the new stranger sat.
"here, don't drink it fast or it'll make your head hurt" Tseb told him, then added quietly "you look like the sort that might have a job or two i could help with?" he paused for a moment as a drunk began a particularly loud chorus of a popular drinking song. "I have useful skills, nothing compared to some of the legends around but useful none the less and i'm tired of being a magical cooling cellar"

"The ship has been properly docked, sir."
"Excellent." He turned to the barkeeper. "A drink for Lieutenant Ken, on me." Back to Ken. "Get a good sleep tonight, we've an early morning tomorrow. I need you to scout around and see what information you can find on the Sultan, where it's been seen, that sort've thing. I'm going to round up a little extra help." He turned back to his drink.
An odd looking fellow with a bright blue bandanna sat down next to him and ordered a drink. He was wearing . . . really really tight jeans? With a tunic? What the hell? Who went around wearing purple, brown, blue, and black? Also the jeans squeaked when he moved. What self respecting pirate wore jeans? They were horribly uncomfortable when climbing the rigging. This was odd. Steel looked at the pirate's face more closely. Oh. That explained everything.
"Shadow Link, what the hell are you doing here?"

"Looking for wo-- ahem, looking for work. I heard rumors about a mutinous pirate ship, and figured I might get some decent pay if I helped get it back." A half-truth, but he didn't need to know the whole story. "The disguise is because I didn't think you'd hire me if you knew who I was. And I'll thank you to keep it down, half of these people still want me dead."

Tseb was tired of being a barkeeper, he was a bloody sorcerer he shouldn't have to chill drinks for a living, but untill someone would pay him he was stuck in this hellhole that didn't even have the sense of propriety to alliterate it's name.
he chilled the beer almost instantly, Russel woud expect him to pour the most expensive drink since the patron hadn't specified. He delivered the drink and gave his usual warning.
...going to round up a little extra help."
Tseb heard those words loud and clear.
then even clearer as the speaker turned in the direction of the uniquely attired possible future employer.
"Shadow Link, what the hell are you doing here?" So he was a famous uniquely attired possible future employer...
"pardon me but I couldn't help but hear you mention rounding up some help" Tseb adressed what appeared to be a pirate captian "I'm looking for a job."
The bar had started into the full drunk stage as songs sprang up from various tables and feats of drunkenness were being performed, the more interesting ones involved, pyramid construction using empty mugs, people stacking, and "attempted" acrobatics.

The Gurgling Duck was unusually crowded for an inn. In fact as soon as Ransom stepped in he was hard pressed to move about at all. Of course his elaborate disguise wasnt helping either. His large cloak, and travelpack only made it harder to move. Not to mention the protrusion of his folded wings beneath the cloak. He had them strapped down and everything, and they still managed to conspicuously emerge from the flat of his back. In order to hide this as efficiently as possible, his large pack was slung over his back loosely. Also, he kept his face hooded and hunched to make the bump in his back look more natural. Hopefully people would just take him for an old man.
He knew the disguise still drew unwanted attention, but it didn't compare to the kind of looks and stares he got whenever he wore his wings publicly. Plus, he was probably the only winged man he had ever heard of, so anyone wanting him dead could easily locate him if he strode about with his wings aloft.
Despite the efficiency of the disguise, his wings we're still throbbing from their containment, his back ached and his legs were sore as could be. The long from the outlying woods into Almirante had taken its toll.
He could use a good sleep tonight. Hopefully on the ship.
Steel had better be here.
Ransom shuffled over to a back wall where he could lean back at full height and observe. It was an amazing crowd for such a small inn. People were packed onto the tables like sardines, many having to stand to enjoy their drink. It seemed to be made up of mostly pirates and laymen from the docks, but Ransom would spot a businessman or minstrel here and there. There was even a few families scattered about.
It seemed that now the war was over the small port town was swiftly turning into a bustling city, as more and more immigrants and adventure seekers from Legends Alliance poured into the new world.
"And we haven't even found gold yet." Ransom mused to himself.
Steel's dominant form came into view at the bar. He was in conversation with two fellows Ransom had never seen before. He assumed they would also be accompanying them.
While in conversation Steel was still keeping his eye on the door. His gaze found Ransom's from across the bar.
Ransom returned the stare, and nodded towards the door, implying that he would meet him outside when his business was done.
He needed some fresh air anyway.

Steel caught Ransom's glance across the room, then turned back to Shadow Link.
"What's that? Hire you? No. Go stick your head back up your ass where it belongs." A pause, as Steel looked as Shadow Link's face. "I'm kidding. I have a cabin boy position open, actually. However, you'll need to prove that you'd make a better cabin boy than any of the other applicants. As for you . . ." He turned to Tseb, "I may have a need for some mercenary work. Both of you meet me tomorrow at the docks, around noon, and we'll see how things go." He tossed back his whiskey. "And with that, gentlemen and gentleboys, I must depart." Steel got up off of the bar stool and pushed his way through the crowded room, opening the swinging tavern doors with quick shove. The salty, cold sea breeze assailed him as soon as he left the smoky confines of the Gurgling Duck. He took a deep breath of clean air. It would not stay that way for long, not with the rapid expansion of the city, but it was refreshing while it lasted. He found Ransom in the alley next to the tavern.
"Any problems getting here?"

Ransom looked down at himself.
"And this is probabaly the most uncomfortable thing ever. Otherwise... i managed. So where's this ship? I would think that there would be nothing more holding us back."

"Alright then. All pirates for the crew? Because you really dont need to just risk your men. There is enough friendly adventurers in this town for ten crews . . . Naive... friendly adventures."
Steel chuckled. "Of course. Myself and Ken will be the only actual members of the Forsaken Fortress on the voyage. The rest of the crew will be . . . expendable."
Ransom chuckled back. "Was that Shadow i saw in the tavern? Ya know, that lucky bastard from the war?"
"Indeed it was. He attempted to disguise himself, but apparently he thinks I'm still blind. More the fool him. I intend to hire him to be cabin boy for the voyage."
"Fair enough. His victories in the war couldnt have been all luck." Ransom felt a drop on his face. "Damn. A squall."
"Do we have a ship yet? It would be preferable than sleeping outside."
"What, don't you sleep in a tree or something?"
"Yes. i hang there like a bat."
"Ah, I thought so. I've reserved a floor of the tavern. It should stay fairly dry in there."
"Well im going to go sleep until we leave. Can those doors be locked from the inside?"
"I believe so."
"Ace. I'll seeya tommorow."

The next Day
Steel walked down to the docks, where he had instructed all those whom he had recruited in the morning to meet him. It was still five minutes to 12. He leaned against a nearby building and waited.

Tseb spent an uneventful night at the bar. The drunks started a reenactment of the recent war except that they couldn't remember who won, so they drew straws and the winner gave a speech about how hard he wanted the alliance to win. the next day he woke up early and scouted out the best way to accomplish his plan
Tseb thought it best to make an impression on the first day. He flew high above the docks, his large cape giving him the surface area needed to fly, though it was very rough due to using air blasts. He spotted his employer, and dropped. He fell faster, faster, at the last second he grabbed the edges of his cloak. then using almost all his concentration he pulled a ring of water out of the ocean while slowing his descent. He Froze the ring of water landed and shattered the frozen ring.
At this point his head burst into pain, Way to much use of magic, blast it all and his shoulders would be sore for a few days from the cape maneuver.
Tseb then dropped to one knee bowed his head and said "reporting for duty sir"

A few looked up and he pointed to the ship in the distance. A senior worker shouted, "Damaged ship coming in! Look lively!"
The small brigantine lurched forward slowly, one of the masts now nothing more than a stump without sails. It was low in the water, a sign that some of the decks had surely been flooded. Holes lined with shoot and charred wood littered the hull, a clear indication of cannon fire. As the Almirante crews buzzed with activity, the pirate vessel just barely aimed its nose at one of the docks. It less than gracefully slammed to a halt, not breaking the dock itself, but sending the ship's crew to their stomachs as the impact force knocked them over like pins. The Almirante pirates secured it and began to head on board to tend to the wounded and give the ship a look. The name on the side of the vessel had been partially wiped out by damage, left only as Isa el.
Only six people were still alive, the rest of the dead crew having been tossed overboard on the voyage home. Of those six, only two were not injured. The sole surviving officer, the first mate, made his way down to the dock on shaky legs, a series of large burns on his sleeveless right arm. An attendant poured ale over it in the absence of rubbing alcohol and began to bandage it, handing the first mate the rest of the drink to dull the pain.
After his drink, the first mate laughed and said, "Unless the Admiral sends in the Ark or a couple first rate ships-of-the-line, we ain't goin' north anymore."

"Reporting for duty sir."
"Right. Wait over near that ship." Steel motioned towards the Flying Swallow, a small, quick cutter he had appropriated earlier that morning. There was no hope in attempting to assault the Sultan head on in a sea battle, even with a first rate ship of the line, which the Admiral had not seen fit to assign to the mission, Devinson was by far the best tactical commander in the fleet, saving Lord Juno himself, of course. At the moment Steel's plan was to get close to the Sultan, then stay just out of reach, using Ransom's flying ability to keep track of where they were headed. When they next made landfall, Steel and a selected few of the crew members would sneak aboard, take Devinson prisoner if possible, and if not, kill him. With the head of the snake cut off, the rest of the crew should follow Steel's orders, and if not . . . well, generally pirates become more compliant when they see their fellows slaughtered before their eyes.
All of a sudden a small brigantine crashed into the other end of the dock. It looked charred and smashed, almost as if it had come under fire . . . Steel rushed off towards the ship, yelling to Tseb to tell all of the prospective crew members to meet at the gangplank of the Flying Swallow.
* * * *
Steel returned a half an hour later with the information he sought, the coordinates of the battle written on a small scrap of sail tucked into his leather traveling pouch. Well. That eliminated Ken's job.
"Alright, listen up ye scurvy dogs." Steel adopted his traditional pirate mode of speaking, dropping some vowels and changing others. "We've got a job t' do, an' I want only th' best fer this mission."

--------------------
Shadow had found a quiet rooftop to sleep on top of the last night, with an overhand to shield him from the squall; it was horrid for the ears, but considering that he'd once had to sleep in a bar with a bunch of brawling pirates, this wasn't too much to bare with.
The next morning, he woke up to see Steel standing by a building across from his own. Probably the meeting spot for the crew. As he was about to jump down, however, he saw a ring of ice hit the ground, then shatter when someone landed in the middle of it. That bartender from last night; it appeared that his talk about being able to use magic was true, and Shadow could sense that he had quite a bit of it. Perhaps he could be useful after all, though he did unknowing agree with Steel that he shouldn't waste his magic by showing off.
When Steel had went off to check the wrecked ship at the port -- which Shadow was interested in, but decided not to investigate since it may jeopardize his missions both old and new -- he simply waited with the bartender-turned-mercenary until he returned. During that time more people began to crowd around; the ragtag crew was small, but mean-looking. Ken appeared to have good taste in mercenaries... hopefully their bite was worse than their bark. The turnout was originally larger, but most of the people had accurately speculated that it was their target that wrecked that ship to such an extent and backed out like cowards. Probably a good thing, since it left the people who were actually worth a damn.
As Steel returned, the group of people who were conversing each other fell silent and awaited instructions. At least they were obedient... for now, at least. Since Shadow was playing the part of a mercenary -- and planned to keep it that way until all was said and done -- he also decided to listen up.

"We've got a job t' do, an' I want only th' best fer this mission." Steel concluded in what must have been the shortest and least moral lifting departure speech ever.
"Aye, Sir" the crew replied.
after the crew had dispersed Tseb went to Steel to aquire permission to enact the enchanments.
"Captian, Sir I have several enchantments ready to be set into place on the vessel with your permission, the enchantments would ease the voyage, and provide me with extra energy should a battle occur. may i finish applying them?"
As the conversation took place between Steel and Tseb the excitement of the burned ship faded away from the docks, Fishermen were putting-out for the day, but the trading vessels seemed anxious now that there was a new threat out to sea. While all the other dock hands were finding taverns to waist timeint untill the fishing ships returned or another vessel put-in to port.

"Alright. All three of you will be cabin boys. You," He pointed to the skinny boy. "Will be in charge of the other two. You take your orders from me, or anyone else on board who tells you to do something. My orders override their orders. You get a double portion, the boy with the purple hair gets a normal portion, and tubby over there gets a half portion until I can feel his ribs. Get your things and get on board."
For the rest, Steel selected two dozen of the strongest, most capable looking adventurers from the group assembled before him, including a man with a peg leg and a parrot on one shoulder and a monkey on the other.
"'E's blind an' mute y'see cap'n." One of his companions informed Steel. "Th' bloody parrot talks for him, and the monkey sees for 'im."
"Right." Steel replied. Not clichéd at all.
There were several of the normal types of adventurers, a man who looked skilled with a bow, another who looked skilled with a cutlass, and one who said he was the best pilot in the city. Sure. There was also a really, really big fat guy, named Olaf. He was from the north.
There were two mages in the crew. Tseb, and an old man with a cane who could barely conjure a fireball. These were the best that the city had to offer, apparently. Good. That meant all of the really good men were already pirates. Steel probably could've accomplished the whole mission by himself, being an expert at assassination and all, but that would've been rather boring, and then everyone would've had to have gone and joined Goose and JRP's thread, which is doing quite well by itself.
"Alright you miserable dogs. Get on board and prepare to sail. We leave as soon as the tide turns."
After most of the crew had boarded, Tseb came up to Steel and spoke.
"Captian, Sir I have several enchantments ready to be set into place on the vessel with your permission, the enchantments would ease the voyage, and provide me with extra energy should a battle occur. may i finish applying them?"
"Hmm? Oh, right. Go ahead. However, be warned that if any of them cause hindrance during the mission 'twill be your head."
Now to get Ken and Ransom, and they'd be ready to depart.

Shadow's brow twitched as his name was mentioned. "I have to be the subordinate of this kid who is barely half my age?" Shadow growled in his mind; well, since Steel didn't trust anyone here further than he could throw them -- especially Shadow himself -- it was to be expected. But he still didn't like the idea of taking a child's orders. Looking back at his two co-workers, he saw that his new "boss" was quite panicked and talking to the fat boy; apparently he wasn't seeking any kind of leadership role, but that's what he got. "Well, whatever. If I'm going to be working with them, I might as well get to know them..." He walked over to the two boys. "If we're working together, we might as well get to know each other. Call me Blade." he said in his deeper voice; no need to tip off any nearby pirates about who he really was.
After the skinny boy finally managed to calm himself as much as possible, the three cabin boys boarded the ship as they talked. They didn't seem like bad people, but judging from their mannerisms and out-of-shape appearance, they had little-to-no fighting ability; they barely looked like they could even survive on a pirate ship.
Shadow sighed inwardly; he'd better not have to bail these little twerps out too much during this mission.

Fortunately, this was his last run, so all he had to lug back to the ship was a large sack filled with corn meal. Coming within sight of the docks, Ken stopped only for a moment to watch the comedy of the cabin boys. When they finally boarded the ship, Ken hefted the bag and continued on down, stopping by Steel.
"Last of the supplies are ready sir."

Anyone else, Ransom might have considered helping, but he would never risk "jeopardising his disguise" for the likes of Ken.
Knowing the time for setting sail was approaching, Ransom decided to finally make his way onto the ship. He would have to keep his annoying disguise for now, until they were out on the ocean. Even then he would exposed to certain dangers. But luckily his reason for standing out so much also made a handy escape plan if anything went wrong.
Was he getting paranoid? Had the war left him this demasculated enough that he was too frightened to even show himself in the open? He had never used to care, figuring that anyone wanted to kill him they could try their damn best.
But now he was just a more-often-than-not drunken mouse hiding in the walls of this life.
He sighed as he stepped onto the gangplank to the ship. Maybe he would find invigoration in this mission?
it was unlikely.
He looked around for Steel so he could report.

Steel turned to Ken.
"Excellent. Get on board and order the crew to start preparing to weigh anchor." He caught Ransom's eye across the crowds and nodded towards the ship, then turned and began inspecting to ensure everything was in its proper place. No telling what these low class adventurers might screw up. Everything was strangely in order. Steel narrowed his eyes. It was almost as if someone wanted them to go. Or maybe there were just pirate pixies on the boat. Wait. No, both those ideas were retarded. Who the hell would fix a ship up so someone could leave? The most effective way to hurry things would be to rile the town against them, obviously. No one was stupid enough to do that. Well, except for him, and he was already on the crew. And what the hell were pirate pixies? Steel dismissed the orderliness of the ship as beginner's luck and took the helm.
"Weigh Anchor!"
Several Days Later
So far, no luck, but they were still several leagues from the site of the attack. Steel looked up to the man with one leg and a monkey and parrot, who, surprisingly enough, was an excellent lookout, once he managed to get into the Crow's Nest.
"What do your Monkey eyes see?"
"RRRAWWWKK! The dolphins turn Northeast. They're taking the fish to Isengard!" The parrot said. Wait. Steel didn't think he'd heard that right. "I'm sorry, could you please repeat that?"
"RRRAWWWKK! I said there's no sails, but there's an nice wooded island on the starboard."
Hmm. It would do no harm to replenish their stocks of fresh water.
"Helmsman!" The large man named Olaf, dozing at the wheel, suddenly woke up.
"What? Helmsman, helmsman, needs to land"
An adventurer who looked slightly hispanic spoke up. "It would be a pity if we ran aground."
"If we did though, the ship would make a pound."
"Enough with the Rhyming already!" Steel said
"Anybody want a peanut?" said Olaf.
"Helmsman, we're going to make land at that island over there. Bring us to about 100 yards out, and then we'll send the jolly boat out to get supplies."
"Okay."
Steel wasn't entirely sure whether he was going insane or not, but at the moment it didn't really matter. They soon anchored just off the Island.
"Ken, Ransom, take 3 men and look for a freshwater spring. I'll join you in half an hour. And don't fight."

"WAIT, NO! NOT LIKE THAT!"
"YAAAHH!"
*CRASH*
"What the hell?" Shadow growled as he went to the upper decks to see his two partners tied up in a fallen part of rigging for the sails; some lazy idiot must've ordered them to collapse the sails. They were damned lucky that the ship was anchored, otherwise the other members of the crew would be beating them senseless. The two children had quickly became the entertainment of the ragtag crew during this trip because of all their mishaps; fortunately they only had minor issues that were easily fixed, and most of their problems were quite comical. Shadow was agile enough to steer clear of these diasters, thankfully. "You're supposed to collapse the sails, not their rigging. Can't I leave you two alone for ten seconds?" he said like a nagging parent. He knew that he wasn't the one in charge of the children, but the skinny fool often had no idea what to do and looked to the more-seasoned traveller for guidance.
"Don't look at me, Blade! Fatzo here slipped on the rope and dragged me down with him!" Well, at least Shadow's disguise was working.
"Only because you tore the rigging off in the first place!"
The makeshift boss and his pudgy employee then got into an argument, several crewmen looking at them with amusement and laughter. Shadow just shook his head in embarrasment. "Steel is going to pay for this, so help me Diel..." he thought as he glared at the captain.
Shadow looked at Ken and Ransom again. "They'd better pick me to come with them, I'm not cleaning up that mess."

Nanashi poked her head out from around the crates she was hiding behind and look around carefully.
"Hmm they seem to be restocking, nows my chance to stretch a bit."
she got up and walked around a bit, she had been cramed in that small space since they had left the town.
"I wonder when i should reveal my self to the captain, not yet now that they are at an island they might throw me off here, ill have to wait till after the landing party gets back and we set sail again."
She heard form above deck a loud crash and lots of voices and decided it was time to go back into hiding.
"back to my cubbie then"
she crawled back in her hiding spot and soon dozed off.

He had just finished checking on the wind controlling enchantments he had carved into the rather ugly looking figurehead, It was a pirate pixie, at least that's what the ingraving said "Bobert Pirate Pixie of Renown" it proclaimed.
As he was descending to his cabin a voice caught his ear.
"Alright, whoever wants to go along; first come, first serve." he heard Ken say
The crew began dashing towards Ken like he was giving out free alchohol during the prohibition (whatever that was).
"Oh no they don't" Tseb said to himself, he then called on some of the new powers of the Pirate Pixie of Renown. Tseb shot forward straight over the eager pirates, landing in front of Ken.
"Aye, Sir" he said to Ken
The pirates on deck let out a collective grunt of frustration as they turned (with of skidding to avoid the newly formed shore party) from their head long rush toward Ken back to the chores they had been about before the land rush had been anounced.

"Alright everyone, in the boat."
Ken took the opportunity to shoot Ransom a mean look as everyone piled in.

As the landing party came up on the shore, Ken took a moment to speak.
"Okay, we are here to look for some freshwater, so keep an eye out. If you see some fruit or other edibles, go ahead and grab some."

Freshwater? I come back and we have to look for Freshwater? And fruit?! I must've missed the last boss fight...dyamn...
Kind of disappointed, he realized it would be a vital resource for his traveling companions as well as himself. Days adrift and drinking salt water would probably make freshwater taste better.
"Well, I'll go this way" Kitsune said pointing off the only direction; opposite of shore. Realizing it was useless to point, he put his hand down, shook his head, and took off. He hated water, and he hated beaches. So off he went.
