It's just his approach to any newly released Zelda game - find quotes or plot points that can be taken out of context in order to support a theory that is really baseless fan fiction (i.e. Sand of Hours = Light Force). What we need to do when a new Zelda game comes out is first play it and read its story objectively, with no consideration for our own timelines, in order to determine that game's INTENDED significance. It was the desperate desire of some people to only acknowledge anything in a game from their perspective which resulted in things like the ridiculous single timeline after TP's release.
Truth. I was certainly guilty of that when TP came out.
The reason I think Lex maintains the stance that he does is because he believes himself to be psychic. If you ask him why he feels so confident about his interpretations, he'll tell you that he predicted plot elements in games before they were publically released. While this may be true in some cases, the reasons why Lex may be able to predict these things can be misleading. It is well known that Lex believes a lot of references included for symbolism, nostalgia or miscellaneous are actually timeline references, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lex comes to the same conclusion about the references he predicts.
