So I have this....let's say a sister, and she seems to have found a glitch that makes Phantom Hourglass unbeatable.

Basically, in the Isle of Frost, in the section where you have to talk to people in the six houses looking for the shape-shifting monster. When she goes into the houses on the top row, she talks to the guy and is unable to leave the hut. This prevents her from making an accusation, because she isn't able to go into all six houses.

Her...oh let's say boyfriend, is playing on a separate file and is running into the same bug, so restarting obviously won't do any good.

Has anyone heard of a workaround for this bug?

First of all, I'd backhand both your sister and her boyfriend.

Assuming they exist.

Secondly, could you elaborate on how you got into the glitch in the first place? Did you accuse the wrong penquin guy and save? Or what?

Seemed to be a direct result of walking through the door.

Walk in and try to leave--can't leave.

Walk in, talk to the guy (it was too early to accuse because this happens in multiple houses)--can't leave.

Walk in before you officially get the quest from the village chief -- cant' leave.

And after they both go to the same point, her boyfriend copied her file and decided to experiment with him.

Walk in the door, save -- can't leave AND rebooting the game starts you inside the house (and you can't leave).

Since it happened on two different save files, it seems to me that the software on her DS Card is corrupted somehow. But what do I know?

____

I looked online for her, only found one hit that matched the problem, and the proposed solution (talking to the guy over and over) didn't work.

She called Nintendo's customer service today, and apparently the operator hasn't heard of this problem. She has been instructed to ship the game to Nintendo so they can try and figure it out, or at least replace her copy. Sucks that it happened so late in the game. I don't know if Nintendo can/will put her save files on a new copy of the game.

For that matter, she might as well delete the file and start over.

No, because her boyfriend ran into the same problem on a separate file.

Starting over would probably just mean she'll get stuck at the same place again.

But it seems like they're getting stuck because they're entering too earlier. Sounds like a coding error. There's nothing you can do about that in thata case except turn in it to have it fix or start over and don't around with the huts until you talk to the chief first.

And saving in place you're stuck in is a big mistake.

No, they tried going to the chief first. Didn't make a difference.

Usually, I'd agree, but they were looking for a work-around. The hope was that he could talk to the guy, save and quit, then teleport out of the house on reload (because Zelda games usually start you off a fixed point on a reload) and still get credit for the conversation. That didn't work either. When he reloaded, he was still stuck in the house.

She did copy the file first though to make a back-up, if that makes you feel any better.

Well then I got nothing.

Oh I see.

I didn't get this glitch, but I've gotten tons of other ones. :< I'm really dissapointed in the game thanks to all of the issues. I've gotten stuck at the bottom of staircases, had to circle islands three times and try to ram my boat into them just to get them to register on my map, and become stranded on the tops of poles, to name a few. D: Mix that together with some of the design issues, and it sounds like "she" might just be out of luck.
Which is sad, because all issues aside this game is freakin' awesome.

Maybe because yours is the first version? I mean, I have PAL and I haven't had any glitches yet...

That's probably it, then. :\ Oh well.
Besides, the Salvage Arm minigames would still suck even if the glitches were fixed, and that's one of the worst parts of the game. :x

The only glitch I've gotten so far (and I'm about to beat the last boss) is the sound screwing up.. I don't remember where it happened, but the sound/music just messed up somehow right after I unpaused the game.. it was like a never-ending, single note.. I don't know it was hard to describe. But I just figured it was because I bought the game used.. other than that I didn't notice any glitches at all.

Oh, and I fucking love this game. <3

I both love and hate the Salvage Arm bits with equal measure. I love them because they are tense and require concentration. I hate them because they can be a little too difficult. But frankly I think they're quite fun. More fun than the fishing, I think! Not overly fond of the fishing in PH. Takes a bit too long to reel in even the Skippyjacks. Then again, as I get better it goes quicker, much like the fishing on the old games, so I'm not judging it yet.

Also, not a single glitch so far in my game, I've just reached past halfway. Nottaone. I'm actually astounded, given the number of things that could have gone wrong given the unique gameplay engine, but no, nothing! Remarkable.

Splash, are you sure some of those things are definitely glitches? To get islands to appear, I noticed you need to be looking at them. Maybe you got too close without looking, bumped into them and then couldn't fit the whole island onto the screen for it to appear? Just a thought, I've had no problems myself so I'm just guessing.

And the pole thing, are you sure you weren't just tapping to get off the poles? I do that sometimes, but you need to actually hold the stylus down as if you want Link to get off and walk there, rather than tap, which sometimes feels counter-intuative given that you need to tap to jump on a pole.

I've certainly not got stuck at the bottom of a staircase though. o.o Maybe you got an unlucky glitchy cart? Hrm.

The only glitch I had in my game...

This only worked once, than the game fixed it's programming and I was never able to do it again:

In the Ocean King Temple, I was setting a time record, I went to the room with the yellow warp and kept going. Then I used the boomerang to get a + 30 jar behind me.
I went back into the room with the yellow warp and it changed from the music to a 1 note sound that sounded like a lazer, and it didn't stop until after I stepped into the yellow light and returned to the entrance.
Surprisingly the game said it only took 3 seconds to reach that room, even though it took 33. That trick never worked again though.
Later in the game I did it again and was able to save my warp as using 0 seconds to get to that room without useing the jar in the next room. The trick is to draw the Phantom Hourglass on the door first... theres a + 30 jar in there...
