Two problems with his clarinet: It only goes down to low Eb; and the upper register is broken, so it can't play past high D. (which he doesn't seem to care about fixing...)

This D (yeah, that's horrible):

Dude, that D isn't very hard to play Even I can.
And its that damned octave key that makes bass clarinet so difficult to play, especially if the instrument is a piece of shit. I've tried, and it didn't work. The low Eb is fun, but I really wish sometimes it went lower. There was this one piece that had a low D and my director was saying "I don't hear much of that low note you're playing." So I pointed out we only went down to an Eb, not like the good ones that go to C, and he was like "Well shit. Just play it normally then -.-"

That D is hard to play when you have a crappy bass clarinet...

And yes, that octave key is a real pain in the ass... it makes chromatic scales that include notes between open G and C hard to play... That's why saxophones' keywork is much more friendlier.

What brand is yours? "Mines" (actually my brother's) is a Vito...
