Was anybody else offended by the Republican Convention having a church choir sing there?

Not that I'm against religion in politics, I'm all for infusing politics with religion. But I'm rather PO'd that a bunch of Satan-worshipers tried to pass themselves off as Christians.

Oh yeah, I'm trying to create controversy!

Seriously, man. You need to let off the stereotypes and judgement.

I apologize if this should have been a PM, but we've had this talk before.

Satan-worshippers? I suppose you also agree with those people who think the RNC was trying to convert people by using Christian symbols in the convention?

:deadlink: Just... no.

Yeah we have. But I'm pretty convinced that the Republican party is has at least some sort of Satanic influence in its ranks. I'm not trying to judge or to foster stereotypes, I'm serious.

Not that all (or even) most Republicans are devil-worshipers, but several of the politicans are.

Actually, I'm all for a political party that tries to convert people to Christianity. That party is not the Republican party.

Unless you went to the Republican Convention, and actual witness some form of straightforward, blatant Satan-worshipping, you don't know that.

I also think it woudl be great for the forum if at least the mods followed the rules.

I don't understand where you (arunma) got the notion that Republicans are Satan worshipping, idolatrous pagans, because it simply ain't true. Just sounds like more bogus mudslinging to me.

Actually, the rules (the older ones, anyway) specifically stated that controversy is welcome, which is why I'm saying this. Besides, no one's insulting anyone else here. I'm insulting the Republican party (actually...I'm criticizing them, not insulting them).

I just find it ironic that people in the RPG forum--essentially a game forum, where you go for fun--are more conscious of the rules of that forum than people in the forum where we go to argue with each other.

But if I haven't crossed the line before now, I probably just did.

Arunma, calling people Satan worshippers isn't criticism; it's blatant flaming unless you can back it up. It's also perpetuation stereotypes, and maybe there are a few Republics on this forum--posters who are, by your definition, alleged Satan worshipers.

The best you can say is that it's difficult to resolve Republican ideology with the Bible. That's it.

Just as we don't confuse neo-nazis for Republicans, let's not confuse ultra-lefters with mainstream Democrats. Actually, Democrats are promoters of religious freedom. You do support religious freedom, don't you? After all, the worst place for evangelism is in a country with a Christian state. Sure, separation of church and state isn't a great thing, but union of church and state is far worse, because it puts the church in secular hands. Sounds like what the Republicans want.

Who's up for an American papacy?

Are there not Democrats who are also pro-war, pro-gun, pro-death penalty, pro capitalist as well? And are there not Republicans who are anti-war, anti-guns, anti-death pentalty, anti-capitalist?

You're stereotyping, which I don't like given the amount of Republicans in my family.

HoW didn't break the rules either, by the way. You too can say what you like about political groups. The rules apply to flaming members, not institutions. Besides, I did say that I dont' think most Republican voters are satanic, just decieved.

- It is forbidden to blatantly attack any form of religious, political, or social orientation. Please show respect for all creeds, ethnicities, beliefs, sexual orientations, and nationalities. Failure to do so will glean harsh punative measures.

You guys even bolded this on the rules page.

Where, exactly, did you prove that not following Scripture is the same as worshiping Satan?

Members are very often part of institutions, so you by flaming the group, you flame the members.

Also, Arunma, I apologize that this keeps coming out directed at you. I've been very disatisfied with mod conduct in this forum for a long time, and I do not by any means consider you to be the worst one. You only have that one irksome habit of declaring people satan worshippers or Hell-bound.

HoW, there's a big difference between accusing the Republican party of satan worship, and flaming them. Satan worship isn't an insult, it's an accusation of blasphemy. And if there's a possiblity that it's true, it should be discussed. Don't you think?

It should be discussed in a mature fashion without name-calling.

Also, I think it definitely counts as flaming when you make unfounded accusations.

Calling a Christian a "Satan worshipper" is insulting.

As for discussing it, there isn't much to say. You're trying to prove a point by comparing Republican ideals to the Bible. And like Steve said, how is that people who don't follow Scripture are damned?

If you were arguing with an atheist, you wouldn't have much of a case.

I didn't say that Republicans are damned for their political beliefs. Certainly not! Jesus said that if you follow the commandments, you'll be saved. He didn't say "disobey, and you're damned." Still, don't you think that true followers have a better assurance of salvation?

However, if it'll get you guys to address the issue, I'll rephrase my statement.

The Republican party does a poor job of following the Biblical commandments, especially those in the New Testament.

There, now say something!

You only supported that it's difficult to reconsile the main stances of Republicans with Scripture. Then you made the unfounded leap to calling them Satanists.

I would argue that politicians should be concerned soley with stability and protection of Constitutional rights. The Republicans obviously think that their stances are means to that end.
