I think the 2D games are the best, simply due to the gameplay being much more solid and enjoyable (and challenging) in my opinion.ALttP is easily the best 2D Zelda, but is it the best? I think it's the second-best, personally.
Majora's Mask is still the best 3D Zelda though I say, simply because it's so utterly original in concept.
There's two types of people who will vote on this poll.
1: OoT fans who shall never be swayed because it was the first Zelda they played and blah blah blah.
2: Everyone else, who's vote shall be spread throughout the remaining (and some better) games.
I was an inch away from voting for MM. And LA, for that matter. And TP (which is better than OoT, but clearly not better than everyone's rose-tinted memories of OoT).

I haven't played enough Phantom Hourglass to vote for it, but the way it's going I still prefer MM over it, though.
I'm surprised by Twilight Princess's lack of votes. I didn't exect it to win (silly old members with their fond memories of ALttP tongue.gif) but I didn't expect to be it's only vote.
...I need to finish LA, and replay the Oracles. -__-
TP just didn't leave that big of a bang for everyone, unless it was someone's first zelda game. Even so, you don't really hear people talking about it anymore... There were some things of OoT I liked better, but as a game TP was better, but MM beats both in my opinion.

Because a three-day telling of their lives is shown and displayed to the player in a realistic manner since game mechanics allow freedom of choice. You could choose to help or ruin these people, this time round Nintendo's designers weren't forcing the routine of side-quests upon you, so getting those masks felt rewarding, and this is how a unique "Groundhog Day" experience in Termina is achieved when you, the obscure 'immortal' outsider, decide to include yourself in other people's lives.
, villain
Hello! it's not taking over that land, it's a god almost causing an Apocalypse for the people of Termina!
Majora's Mask has nothing in terms of personality, but lots in terms of character design and menace. You can actually feel the destruction he/she/it causes in the game. His/her/its theme tune is sinister and dark. There's a madness in its motives, in its movements, and you can see it, feel it and hear it. Majora is the only truly insane villain that lives up to its insanity.
, and the characters... except Tingle.
That explains itself.

1. OoT
2. ALttP
3. TWW
now allow me to elaborate.
ALttP is the best Zelda game there is, but There's a lot of things about OoT that I just like better. It said vote for your favorite game, which is for me OoT; but as far as games go, ALttP is just plain better.

LA, TWW, OoT, and LoZ get honorable mentions; TP and ALttP had their golden features.

How is A Link to the Past not winning? It is, and always will be, the best Zelda game, barring some miracle breakthrough in some unreleased game...
Because I voted for the underrated Majora's Mask, which although not as big as ALttP, is far better than OOT. I would have voted for ALttP, but I was afraid MM wouldn't get the recognition it deserves. Besides, for me, it's a toss up between those two.

I have a lot of categories for best Zelda game, but I voted for my favorite, OoT.
I'll list out my categories:
Best 2D: ALttP
Best 3D: OoT
Most technically advanced:TP
Best Story: TWW
Best Handheld: TMC
Most unique: MM
Best Music: ALttP
Prettiest Graphics: TWW
Best Challenge: AoL
Best Overworld: TP
Best Dungeons: MM
OoT's my favorite because I grew up with that game. It took me a year to beat it, and most of my childhood memories from 1999 involve playing Zelda. My dad and I made two files and played the game through alongside each other. It was the first totally immersive game I had ever played. I have played it through once a year since then. It has seldom lost any of the magic it had during my childhood. That is why it is my favorite.

I was almost in Category number 1, until I went back to OoT after playing LA, OoX, MC, MM, TP, and WW and realizing... "Wow... this game sucks.."

Because it’s not the best Zelda? ALttP set the standard for the series, but that doesn't mean it perfected it.How is A Link to the Past not winning?
That's his opinion, you know...No way, LA easily pwns it, colors or not
Meh, saying "This game is the best!" doesn't really change much. Kinda pointless to begin with. I voted for MM but I consider TMC to be the best 2D Zelda. That's just the way it is for me.
Using Person's categories:
Best 2D: TMC
Best 3D: MM
Best Story: TWW
Best Handheld: TMC
Most unique: MM
Best Music: OoT perfected ALttP's score, but TMC had the best original songs (especially in the dungeons).
Prettiest Graphics: TP
Best Challenge: AoL
Best 2D Overworld: ALttP
Best 3D Overworld: TP
Best 2D Dungeons: TMC
Best 3D Dungeons: MM

Yeah, except this isn't a poll for "Best Zelda game".

And wow, I agree with your categories all the way... except for maybe Best Story. Surely MM is better due to the in-depth nature in which you interact with the characters? Although, I suppose, plot-wise it's not realy THAT great.

TWW and TP might have slightly better stories than MM (more twists and turns) but no game has had quite the 'epic' feel that MM has, in my opinion. No game has improved on the feel of those last six hours before the moon hits. The closest moment I can think of is the final battle in The Wind Waker, but even that doesn't touch upon the final moments of Termina.
Tell you what though, the Black Tower in Oracle of Ages is nearly as epic, something rather impressive given the relatively simplistic game engine.

Well, she said it should win because it "is and always will be the best Zelda game", a claim I'm sure you realize the fallacy of. And like you said, this poll isn't even about the best game. It's about your favourite game, which is an entirely separate thing.Yeah, except this isn't a poll for "Best Zelda game".
As for MM... That depends on what you consider to be the "story" of the game. When I voted, I thought of the main storyline, its complexity and how it used past references (both in-game and from the series) to enhance itself, in which case TWW is the prime Zelda. By that same definition, I don't consider the main plot to be the strength of MM (though the concept of the impending moon does make for it's best qualities), but the depth of everything plot-related... That is where MM is without peers (and where TWW and TP failed, IMO). The Zelda with the most epic feeling, best characterization and most thought evoking concepts? That is, undoubtedly, MM.
