Okay, i've had this game for a while, and I really like it and I'm for the most part getting it. But my main problem is at the very beginning of the game when it says that link is looking for a friend that he departed with...!:deadlink: WHO IS THAT!? :o My brain refuses to let me play until i find out! You can't just ignore something like that! :s:
Please tell me so i can get back to my game.;)

Well, there are several interpretations. The most common is that the friend is Navi, whom he was seperated from at OoT's close. However, there's also the possibility that the friend he was searching for was Skull Kid, which is supported by some quotes at the end I can't quite remember right now.

I don't think that Link was looking for skull kid. I didn't see any evidence in the game to suggest so. I also think that if Link was looking for skull kid, somthing would have been said once he had found him. It is most likely that, Link was looking for Navi.

Link was looking for Navi. Right after the game says he was looking for a departed friend, you hear Navi's little tinkling fairy swoosh noise. *tears* Ah...Navi...how I long to hear you state the obvious...like that one time, in the Water Temple, when a Tektite jumped into me - I Z-targeted and you told me "Watch out!"...wait a second...I hated that. Fuck you, Navi.

I think it was Skull Kid. That's the only way MM would work as a stand alone game, and makes more sence given that the person he is looking for is of significant importance in the game. However, you will soon realise that it really doesn't matter who it is. We can sit and debate who it is till the cows come home, but it will have no substantial effect on the game.

It really isn't, it's just setup to explain why Link was journeying.

I don't know why I wrote that. What I meant was that it being Skull Kid would be a better link to the game (as the Skull Kid is a major part of it) and would allow for MM to be completely sepeate to OoT - i.e. you don't need to know anything about OoT to know the full story of MM. However, it really doesn't matter. It doesn't really effect the gameplay or storyline much at all.

I don't think it's Skullkid. If that were the case, you'd think Link would do something when he finally freed him from the Majora's possesion. You're telling me he went through all that trouble just to find him and then leave without so much as a "How you're doing?" He doesn't even give hug! Hell, I'd settle for a handshake. Instead he just stares blankly at him and leaves.

No, to me, I think Link reuniting Tatl with Skullkid and Teal reminded him of Navi and he continues his search. I believe at the VERY VERY end, you hear her bell chime sound just before the screen goes black.

Huh, I thought that was because it was Tatl's/ Tael's sound.

Look at it from the perspective of someone who has finished OoT and has just begun playing MM. Who was an invaluable (and at times annoying) friend to Link in OoT? Navi. Who parted ways with Link at the end of OoT? Navi. Who would you instantly associate the swoosh sound with as Koji calls it? Navi.

Skull Kid was never Links friend. Selling someone a mask doesn't make them a friend it makes them a client. Giving someone a heart piece which isn't required to beat the game doesn't make you invaluable.

It's Navi. Deal with it!

A journey in search of a
beloved and invaluable friend... A friend with whom he parted
ways when he finally fulfilled his
heroic destiny and took his place
among legends...

Hands down--it was Navi. Link and Skull Kid weren't even friends in OOT and we don't see Link parting ways with him at the end of OOT. We see Link parting ways with Navi at the end of OOT when Link returned the Master Sword after he "finally fulfilled his heroic destiny". End of thread.
