When are they going to explain it? I hope the new game involves Majora's tribe and how Majora either became the mask or became trapped in it... Majora is by far my favorite and most mysterious villian in the series.

Yeah, and he'll stop being the most mysterious villain as soon as we're told every detail concerning his origin. I think we were told enough about him in MM.

I really doubt the new game will focus on Majora, but you're right about him being so mysterious, Chronicle. I do think that MM was enough as it was, but sometimes I wonder where he came from, and why he decided to attack Termina, in fact, what made him evil? And what exactly is he, lol?!!

I always figured he was the evil spirit of the chieftain who controlled the mask, taking out his vengeance on the world through the bodies of the weak and lonely.

meh. mujura sounds like a demon name to me. i think the mask isn't necessarily channeling the spirit of any guy named mujura, but the tribe probably carved it in mujura's honor, and it got bad mojo in the process.
it's possible that the mask only got conciousness after leeching it off of skull kid.

I used to have the translated manga downloaded and it explains the mask's origins. Majora is some kind of creature about 10 feet tall, looking like a blend of a dog with a long silky hair reaching almost to the ground and some kind lizard/ dinosaur with armored plates. You can see it at
http://www.zeldanodensetsu.com/
but the sites not working for some reason.

Of course, it's all fanfic. We'll probably never know the canon, but I think the mask didn't just "glean consciousness" off of dear Skull Kid. After all, he was using him as a puppet nearly the whole time, (like a Yeerk from Animorphs, were you ever a fan of that,) and I'm going to assume that it was a sort of, "I'm free, and now, weak, lonely, child of the forest, I will wreak my vengeance through you!" moment.

Yeah the Mujura beast was pretty cool-looking, but didn't make much sense unless you think the tribe got it -later- and used it..

Mujura Beast? You mean the fanfic dude or the final boss? I think THAT was Majora's Wrath? (And, might I add, seriously cool! Sausage whips!)

Is it fanfic? It WAS at the end of the manga.

Anyways, I don't recall the beast ever being called Majora. But as far as I remember, he was a beast who killed everyone that came near him, until he was all alone. A wanderer came upon him, started beating his drum, and for three days the beast danced. At the end of the third day, the beast died and the traveler forged the beast's body (or armor, something like that) into Majora's Mask. Then he threw the mask in a chasm, and that was the end of it.

You got most of it right HoW. It's a cool story and the only evidence we have of Majora's origins. Even if it's non-canon it was still supported by Nintendo.

PS the beast is called Majora. :) And it's official manga. :)

Having not played MM, I don't know much about Majora, but I do know about all the different masks in the game, and of course, Majora's Mask. I was wondering what is so special about the Mask that Majora wears? Does it give him some special power, and is it on his face permanetly?

Well, Majora is not actually in the game... The figure you see in my avatar is Skull Kid, the mischevious fellow who steals the mask from the Happy Mask Salesman (though he's actually creepy). The mask does indeed give him some freaky powers. He even has the power to turn Link into a Deku scrub after a trippy cutscene! The mask, however evil it may be, doesn't stay with Skull Kid, it leaves him for the final battle. That's right! IN the final battle, you battle a mask.

I always thought it was like a "Gollum and the Ring" relationship, only Skull Kid isn't permanently damaged afterwards. It was a very interesting game, 007 Bond, how many Zelda games HAVE you played? Just TWW?

In order:
  • I've played 3 minutes of Zelda I, then found that the graphics suck
  • I've played 10 minutes of Zelda II, and found it too dificult (plus I wasnt' meant to be playing it)
  • I've made it to the Dark World in Zelda 3 ALttP, and rescued one fairy, and haven't played it in 3-4 weeks
  • Haven't played Link's Awakening
  • I've played 15 minutes of Link's Awakening DX, then was told to get off (once again, I wasn't meant to be on it)
  • I've clocked OoT about 5 times
  • I've played a demo of MM and never really got it
  • I've played a really crap demo of TWW at K-Mart (for those of you who know what that is)

Unfortunately, due to my move to XBox, I can no longer play Zelda games, unless I get a ROM of it, but Gamecube roms would be too large a download (see my thread about this topic)

afaik, the mask was a tool of a tribe known as majora. the mask was made so powerful/became so powerful that it took on a character of it's own- however, it's incomplete, insane, like a program with only half the code. notice that Majora's Wrath dances and whips around, but never really fights, just does an action that damages you.

once the mask is put on by someone it is ~complete, and capable of doing deliberate, thought-out damage to the world, via the skull kid's feelings of rejection. so what i think is that the mask is pure hate and magic that which has been confined to a mask which the happy mask salesman gaurds.

this leads to the question- what other masks does the salesman have?

Apparently, the name was supposed to be Mujula but since the Japanese couldn't pronounce it like that, they pronounced it Majora.

I know prefer the name, Mujula, because that actually sounds like some African tribe name.

I think, in my opinion, Majora's Mask was like a sidequest game, it really had nothing to do with the actual storyline, so my guess it won't be appearing in the new game. They are probably steering away from it. Though, I would like to see the return of the Fierce Deity's Mask...

Personally, though the magna's end is interesting (usally dont like anime things, but the dragon-esq thing was nifty), and the whole concept of where and why the mask was created does not strike me as important. So for that reason, I really don't see Nintendo making a game or any other reference based off it. Though interesting topic I do say.

I always wondered if the the Mask corrupted Skull Kid, or if it merely opened up new possibilities and his personality actually remains unchanged. He could have become evil and vengeful because of his new powers.

What was it that Anju's grandmother was saying? Was it the mask she was talking about or just skull kid, because the whole "terrorizing Termina" happened before.

They won't be returning to Termina again, I'm farily certain, so Majora will remain mysterious (as he's supposed to).

If I had to guess, though, I'd suspect that the "Dark Tribe" it belonged to was probably the ancient Ikana (who I think are Termina's evil, twisted Hylians).

I'd be far more curious to learn about the Happy Mask Salesman. I mean... Who *IS* this guy, really?!

(And those who've seen the ending of the game will most likely understand in even greater depth what I mean. ;) )

Careful what you say. I woudlnt' surprised if you started getting responses such as, "He's the Sage of Dimensions, stupid!" Or maybe Sage of Masks...
