I'm new, where do I introduce myself?

We don't have a special forum for new members to post an introduction, we've tried it before and it just doesn't work. Instead, we're happy for you to start an intro topic in The Commons amongst the general discussion.

It says I don't have permission to start a new topic!

Yes, because of a horrendous increase in spambot and advertising activity, you won't be able to start a new topic until you have posted in an existing topic. Once you make 1 post, you will be promoted from New Members to Members and have no posting restrictions.

What is this title under my avatar and how do I change it?

That is your custom user title. It changes as you increase your post count. Once you reach 750 posts you can enter your own title in the Edit Profile Information section of My Controls.

How do I put up images in my posts and signature?

You have to use BBcode (Bulletin Board Code) to get images visible in your posts. The image also has to be somewhere on the internet, either uploaded to another site or here on the forum.

You can use the Upload Thread in the Showcase Forum for your images. Or you can use sites like Photobucket or Image Shack to upload files.

Once you have an internet address (an URL) for your image, in the Edit Signature section of My Controls, enter the following:

[img]URL[/img]
and your image will appear in your signature.

Please be aware there are limitations on the sizes of signatures.

Why can't I advertise my website?

You can, but only in your signature. Someone using their first post after registration to advertise another website is spam, junk, annoying. We hope that the members who register desire to become a part of a community, and not simply use the forum for their own personal gain.
A site like DeviantArt, your fanfictions, or a site which shows off your own material would be allowed once you become known as a forum regular. It's mainly other forums we don't particularly like advertised.

Can I change my username?

Yes. You are unable to do it yourself though, post a topic in this forum asking for a name change and an admin will get onto it as soon as possible.

My post count isn't going up when I post!

You're posting in either LA Games or a special spam forum. Posts in these forums don't count towards your total.

What are the special member groups on LA, and how do I join one?

There are two types of special member groups: One is for leaders, including Admins, Supermods, and Zelda Legends Staff. Members of these groups gained their position through merit and responsibility.

The second set is the Dorm usergroups, which can be joined after you gain 100 posts and make a request in The Temple Gates forum.

Anything else?

There always is. ;)

If your post contains spoilers of a TV show, movie etc, you can use spoiler tags to hide your text:
[spoiler]text[/spoiler]

Instead of linking to a video on YouTube with a hyperlink, you can insert the video itself into your post.
Using this video as an example:

All you need to do is copy and paste the hyperlink found in the address bar, and surround it with the media tag, like so:

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=944cPciN-kw[/media]

This is a fairly good FAQ thread. It would have surely helped me if it had existed the day I joined! Why don't you post in the FAQ section that has a link in the blue menu (Home, FAQ, Search...)?

I've searched for a way to edit that area, but I can't find it. I think it's built into the boards.

Besides, an FAQ here is more likely to be noticed.

We might run applications when a mod spot opens, but usually we just appoint those we feel are best suited.
