In the June issue of EGM, they interviewed Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto about the special features in the Wii version of Twilight Princesss. Aonuma made some interesting comments regarding the speaker on the Wii-mote:

...Or as you're doing something with the pointing device, you might get some feedback from Navi.

And, as far as targeting things using the Wii-mote:

Another change is [that] when you play on the Revolution, [the helpful fairy] Navi will appear, and you can use her as like a cursor in terms of pointing at different objects and highlighting things.

Now, from the sound of it, Navi may play a very minor role as merely a visual aid, showing you where you're pointing the Wii-mote, but still - if there is a fairy in the game, and her name IS Navi, surely that has time/storyline implications? Perhaps Link finally found her after Majora's Mask? Any thoughts on this?

"Navi," is, in all likelihood, just a quick nickname given to the Fairy by Eiji to let the audience know that it has similar connotations to the fairy of OoT.

I don't think that faries have indefinite life spans since the queen of the fairies changes over the cource of the timeline. Also the fairy of TP must not have a story function since it only appears in the non-gamecube version.

I mentioned this before, but maybe, like the horse, you can name it yourself.....but that'd be strange...

Zol, indefinate doesn't mean immortal. It means they can live as long as they want as no one kills them or whatever. Or hey, maybe the title of Fairy Queen can be passed on without the former Queen dying. Or maybe she just shapeshifts.

In the Zelda world, fairies can indeed die. The original plot for Zelda64 (not Ocarina of Time, but the original scrapped N64DD Project) involved a "Dying Fairy" giving last words of advice to Link.

People. People! Maybe it's the same situation like the TP horse being called Epona. They are only simmilar in appearance and name, not neccessarily the same beings as their OoT counterparts.

Though I'd like to believe it is the same Navi, helping out the new link because he reminds her of the old one.

Perhaps Navi just lives a really long time. It's possible. I'd like it if a few old characters from OoT made an appearance, living or dead.
