I was asked the question recently of how old the various Link's and other characters are in the Zelda World...I've heard a lot of different answers to this question - So at this point I'm looking for additional clarification.

Anyway - if you have an answer - great! If you have a source for your answer...better!

Specifically -

Link in all the games
Zelda - All games (this includes Tetra)
Malon
Anju
Romani
Cremia

The Happy Mask Salesman (random guesses welcome)

Thanks in advance

The Happy Mask Salesman is around the 30s, I think.

I can say that in most gamed, Link is 18s or 11th.

In AoL, Link is 16. (See manual) So assumedly he's 15 in LoZ.
In OoT, he's what, 10 and 17?
In TWW, I think he's 12...
10 in MM, I suppose.

Malon/Romani seem about the same age as Link - so Malon and Romani are 10, Cremia and older Malon 17.
OoT Zelda seems about the same age as Link too.

AoL Zelda is hundreds and hundreds of years old, but other than that Zelda seems to be the same age as Link.

Anju - who knows? She's friends with Cremia, which would make her about the same age.

Link in MM is actually older than the young Link of Oot.

TWW begins on the day Link turns the same age as the green-clad hero of old. Presumably OoT Link.

Also, aside from this and the AoL manual, the only other time I recall any reference to a character's age is the dialogue beween Koume and Kotake in OoT, which reveals they are 400 years old

Spoiler : click to show/hide
TP Link is 17, according to interviews.

It certainly says it does.
However, everywhere I can find says that TWW is Link's twelfth birthday, but I haven't found a source for this... Similarly, nearly everywhere states that OoT Link is ten, but again I can't find an official source. Perhaps the legend was distorted over time?

Yeah, by like a week.

I'm gonna say that the Happy Mask Salesman is late 30s - early 40s.

And Showsni - I'm gonna say that the legend didn't get distorted, but that the age was inaccurate from the get go. I mean, unless Link was running around saying "Hello, my name's Link, I'm 10 years old and I just saved the world," no one's really gonna know how old he is, right? So, when passing down the legend, the age of 12 was probably a guess.

It could be longer. I think he spent a bit more time with Zelda before leaving if they were close enough for her to teach him the song of time. Granted, depending on your timeline, when he returned to his childhood he may have been sent back to a time after she he learned the song, but still, the way they said goodbye seems like they'd been friends more than a week. And Link can hold the Hylian sheild with one arm now. I think his hair is different too. Maybe I'll do a side-by-side comparison, not because I really want to argue about this, but I think it would be fun to examine the differences. ^.^

I'd be interested in seeing that. There seemed to be a number of small differences, such as the belt worn over his shoulder, and the ability to perform flips when jumping from a ledge.

Or, the age of 12 was simply a guess by the NOAs. Yeah, I believe so, since they admitted it and everything.

I've remembered all kinds of crazy stuff I saw in games. I swear when I pre-ordered WindWaker I read something in its preview literature insinuating that the Rito were the unions of Hylians and birds, yet I can't find that anymore, if it ever existed. Hell, I remember seeing a convincing promotional movie poster for a zelda movie in the mailbag of zeldalegends. memory is a dick.
P.S. I just re-checked the windwaker preview thing in my Master Quest box, just to make sure I was crazy.. it had a mistake implying Tinkle had been in OoT as well as MM

Well, it's not in the manual or box. It's very unlikely that it's in the game, as the quote FAQ just says things like today is the day you reach the same age as the legendary hero (or wtte). And websites aren't canon.

Well...I'm not sure, so i give up.

If you compare the MM wireframe with the OoT wireframe of child link, MM Link is slightly taller. The added abilities (hylian shield, flips, bow, hookshot... MM link knows the whole arsenal like the back of his glowing yellow hand) add weight to this arguement- he's gotten stronger and improved his talents. And though I generally avoid using official art as a basis for presumption, the MM art makes link look a bit older (which fits with the much more mature context of MM). As a whole, I'd say less than a year, but more than a season has passed between MM and OoT.

We can assume that aLttP and LA Links, while not being fully adults, are not terribly young either. LA Link was doing a pretty good job of handling his ship, until it got hit by lightning, and his maturity in LA is that of a veteran. Similary, the aLttP Link is generally treated like an adult... we can again fall to studying art to guess that aLttP Link is fairly old (looks to be about 16 by my reckoning).

The Four Swords games are trickier. Assuming they follow the same Hero, then we need a relatively short period of time between each game, probably something along the same lines as OoT/MM. The reason for this is that we need time for things to settle down between the games.

Minish Link is proably the same as WW Link, which I have always assumed is 12. I have a brother who's twelve, and he makes the same girly scream whenever I push him into lava that WW Link does. :) Good times.

Attached File  Pichu.gif   561bytes   3 downloads I heard somewhere that Miyamoto himself thought Link to be eight years old in OoT and Zelda one year older than him. I personaly think Link looks more like ten because when he pulls the Master Sword he looks pretty old like in his late teens or so.

In the official player guide, Link is referred to a ten-years-old.

(...), and the man blamed it on a ten-years-old who played ocarina
(p.84, under "To Tilt at Windmills")

And if young Link was 8 in OoT, adult Link is 15!
