Miyamoto-san has officially stated that Nintendo have a document which links all the Zelda games together, and that there is an ordering to the games.

Shigeru Miyamoto: "For every Zelda game we tell a new story, but we actually have an enormous document that explains how the game relates to the others, and bind them together."
- April 23rd 2003, Superplay Magazine

I therefore decided to create a guide on what the canon is. This guide doesn't give an opinion on what this order is, but instead gives all the relavent official information from the main games that can then be used for people to create a timeline theory if they should wish to do so. This FAQ gives the following information:
1) A summery of the storyline of each main game using the Japanese manuel (translated).
2) Information of key items and characters in most of the main games.
3) In-game quotes relavent to the Zelda storyline from some of the main games.

The URL to the site where it is currently being hosted is:

I will not be updating this until after exams, but I thought it may serve as a useful reference point for the time being. This guide has also been submitted to GameFAQs (albeit with some changes), and should be available there in the near future as well. I hope you all enjoy it, and feel free to make any comments, though please remember that I won't be making many/any changes till after exams.

Kindest Regards,
Mohammed Ali

Initial nitpick? It's Tower of the Gods.

Way old news. And it probably doesn't exist anyways. I'm sure Nintendo has a vague idea of the order, but I really doubt it's written down. And besides, remember the Zelda.com thoery? Does anyone believe that anymore?

Well, no, but NOA has been changing the story since AlttP. We can't really trust anything they tell us. But I trust that Jeff Miller and Leslie Swan know what they're doing.

I certainly hope so...I just theorize based on what I think the game is conveying to me, whether it's written down or not. If certain repetitive themes pop up, I follow it.

That's why I think Kaepora is Rauru, by the way...
