I saw on another forum that their sigs had a scroll bar on them themselves, and I was just wondering how hard would that be to code? I mean, if you guys did it right, we could have really long threads and nobody would care.

It's basic html, but it involves editing wrappers... and I think the main reason sigs are limited is to decrease slowdown and general ugliness.

Exactly. LA loads slow enough as it is..imagine if it had twice the images. It was hell even on the old type of board, a couple years ago when you could have page long sigs. I think I remember once looking on a page that had only a couple different posts that would fit on it, because either member's sig was so long.

Errr... Personally, I don't find LA loads slowly (It actually opens almost instantly for me), but yeah, bigger sigs aren't good for most people. It'd still have to load the whole scrolling thing...

It was because they just looked ugly and ungainly, plus they stretch the broders out - highly irritating.

Regardless of speed, the Great Wall of China-esque sigs that we once had way, way, way back in the day ate up a ton of bandwidth, plus several members leeched the images off toher sites. So the rule was made to put a stop to it all since too many pople abused it.

So the scroll bar sigs might solve space, but it'd still continue the Bandwidth problem, so probably never.

I remember having to scroll three complete mouse wheel turns by some peoples' signatures. *shivers*

Yeah. No matter what your connection, LA takes about three-five whole seconds to load, because there's only so much the server can give out at once. If we had a simpler skin (a la IPB Blue) with less images, just colours and text it would be even faster, but that doesn't mean we want to see your A4 signiatures.

I'm trying to limit myself in my signitures. I've already been asked twice to tone them down. Well three time since two people warned me about my sig when I first got here. Push come to shove, I might have to decide between one image or just text.

All I've got is my good ol' timeline theory and my CLOCKTOWN DEFENDERS BADGE.

Honestly, though, the loading time for LA isn't really that long on my computer...a few seconds at max.

Yes. Google is 0-1 seconds. When sites take around 10 seconds I tend to avoid them.

If I had my way, sig images would be banned altogether. Worthless things.

^ Agreed. Heck, my sig now is mainly there to make fun of other sigs.

In fact, there should be instituted the rules. One banner-sized image and three lines of text. Max. Yes, I might use that.

Hey, I never noticed Masamune's sig until right now.

I don't know whether to be amused or insulted (seeing as I was like the third timeline-in-sig person).

I was thinking that too. I take 5-10 seconds everywhere, the same with LA. =p

If I'm trying to load three pages at once on LA (even including the main page), I end up having to wait up to 30 seconds for them all to appear.

Edit: And yes, I have DSL. Only 256k, but it's all expensive this far out.

Well, I had 750kb and usually LA takes a two-three seconds. One time it took 10, when there were 600 guests and 100 members or something...

Mine's cable too, but there is always a wait if you're under 2mb.

I remember the days where I spent more time reading peoples Siggys than reading their posts. Often their signatures made more sense then their posts, but that was in the days of Spam, which are long gone now.

I try to minimise my Sig, but i like animated ones if I can find a funny one.
