Name: Eric Gransalon

Race: Gransealian

Gender: Male

Age: This is a slightly controversial subject, but we'll say he looks around 26.

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 163

Hair Color/Style: See the avatar for the best idea of the hair style/color.

Eye Color: Blue.

Build: Muscular/Athletic. Right-handed.

Origin: The character was a knock-off of the hero from Shining Force 2. Since you could name the Hero anything you wanted, this was a spin-off of the original Hero, Bowie. Always has been, and always will be.

---------

Strengths & Abilities:

Regenerative Abilities: It's unsure how this came about, but most of the Gransealian blood-line can recover from wounds slightly faster than your normal human, reducing recovery time from small wounds slightly, major wounds taking a considerably less time to recover from. The effect of the regenerative abilities generally only activate if the body is in a resting state, allowing the blood to flow slowly.

Poison Resistance: A resistance to most poisons/venoms is another benefit of the Gransealian species. While this doesn't make them totally immune to it, it reduces the amount of time the poison is in the bloodstream. Like regeneration, though, it takes a resting, relaxed position for this to fully come into effect. Otherwise, it's a painfully slower process.

Bolt: A series of spells learned during his initial adventures, Bolt ranges from one through four, for easy reference:

1: A small ball of electrical energy, which when thrown, tosses some static towards whomever it goes after.

2: Similar to 1, but takes longer to build energy for, is larger, and lasts longer.

3: Again, similar to 2. Takes longer to cast, is larger (about three times the size of a basketball), and lasts longer.

4: Don't want to bore you with the details. It's the most devastating rank of Bolt. About the size of a small house, it also lasts MUCH longer than its predecessors, and is self-sustaining.

Each of the spells' power is greatly increased if there's any electrical activity nearby.

Egress: One of the only other spells he knows, it serves two purposes: long-distance travel by way of elegant angel wings (and also his way of transportation between Hyrule and Granseal), and a mass-teleportation spell, able to take an entire group back to a safer area. Though it's helpful, the latter version of the spell takes more energy to sustain as there's more people to teleport, and when distance is a real factor.

The Force Sword (AKA, the Holy Sword): Obtained during the initial adventure (and outlined in the biography), it's a sword with a blade of pure energy. Around the blade are holy flames, generally taking a blue or green color. Though, the color is completely random. It's unsure why it changes colors in the first place.

(Side Note: Only Eric can wield the Force Sword. It'll zap anyone of an evil or neutral alignment, for example, who tries to touch/wield the sword. Good characters can pick it up, but cannot summon forth the blade.)

Shining Angel: With times of great tragedy and darkness, those specific triggers can cause his Gransealian blood flowing within him to transform him into an angel. Though there's no real outstanding differences in his physique, the transformation is subtle, looking much like the first version of the Egress spell. Though this increases speed, strength, grants him flight, heightens reaction time considerably, and uses no energy, it's tough to sustain. Besides that, only instances where many are threatened by darkness or tragedy, can this transformation be achieved, so this occurance is EXTREMELY rare, despite its obvious advantages.

Weaknesses:

Responsibility: Generally, Eric will tend to rush into a potentially dangerous situation without a second thought to his own safety. This is painfully obvious when people are in danger. From being the Hero for so long, he's used to being there to help people whenever they need it. Besides that, he generally tends to shoulder burdens that he sometimes cannot handle.

Defense: His lack of heavy defensive armors (he prefers to use lighter clothes that don't restrict movement so much), and his lack of experience fighting in them, means that he's more susceptible to injury, relying only on his own agility and fighting experience to avoid harm. Even then, no-one's perfect..

Mana Drain: Most of his spells, with the exception of Bolt 1 and 2, take a long while to cast. At the same time, it also drains the Mana he uses to cast these spells. Mana Drain can cause him to be more sluggish, as his body uses his own energy to compensate for the lack of the natural mana inside himself. Too much Mana Drain, and it's possible for him to pass out for varied amounts of time, as would be likely from casting a Bolt 4.

----------

Biography:

Once a student of the magic/swordsmanship teacher Sir Astral (see Egress and Bolt), Eric seemed destined to become just another soldier in King Granseal's army. However, an event that would forever change the face of the planet occurred. Slade, a Robin Hood-eske thief, stole the Jewels of Good and Evil from a nearby temple that kept Zeon, King of the Devils, sealed within the Tower of Granseal. With Zeon free, he'd need to gain his powers back, weakened with the loss of the Jewel of Evil. Even without the jewel, his power was slowly recovering.

Around this time, a Gizmo, a ghost used by Zeon to possess people, possessed King Granseal. Sir Astral managed to exorcise the ghost out of the King, but the Gizmo survived the exorcism to switch to another body: King Galam. Though once King Granseal's long-time ally, Galam became power-hungry, obsessed with taking over Granseal for his master.

At the same time, Eric and the 'Shining Force' were sent to investigate these occurances. Though jailed, Slade, determined to right what he'd done wrong, got the Force out of Jail. It was around this point that Kavin joined the Force (another character I plan to submit later). Kavin and Eric became close friends, the mage and the swordsman making up the bulk of the offensive power of the Force.

A tragedy later on caused Granseal's main continent to crack as Zeon gained enough power to actually have outside influence. Besides that, Princess Ellis, the King's daughter, was taken hostage as the Force attempted to take on King Galam, whom was under the influence of Zeon. The Force, and most of the people of Granseal, managed to escape by boat. Landing on an adjescant continent offered the opportunity of a new life. The boat was used to create the buildings for New Granseal.

The Force was later dispatched to travel along the island to set up trade routes with other towns. What started as a quest to cooperate with other towns ended up as the true adventure that helped to shape Eric's personality and views. During a trip to the town where the resident God, Volcanon, resided, an eruption caused a small child to become blind. He was named Oddler, and the Force brought him along to care for him, until he was taken by ex-Greater Devil, Creed. This is about the time Eric aquires the Running Ring as a gift from Creed.

Volcanon, naturally, wasn't very happy with the people on the ground, his shrine high atop a volcano (getting the idea?) which housed the bird-people that worshipped him, Volcanon himself the spitting image of a Pheonix. He refused to help the Gransealian people, leaving the Force with only the help of the weaker Goddess Mitula, whom they later visited in their travels. Fighting the greater devils Zalbard, Cameela, and Gesph (each more powerful than the last), they eventually made their way to the desert, where they found an ancient flying device shaped strangely like a bird, buried beneath the sand.

One of the members of the force, Zynk, an ancient robot/guardian, assisted the Force in taking them across the ocean by said flying device. Though the device crashed, they managed to get back to Old Granseal, and that's all that mattered. Having aquired the Jewel of Good and Evil early in his travels (kept cleverly hidden on his person), Eric used them to unseal the Force Sword from the same shrine they were taken from. With this sword in possession, they continued on the tower of Granseal.

Climbing the tower was the hardest part of the adventure by far. Though the Force had survived a majority of the fights leading up to this point, the demons were relentless. And, later, it was revealed that Oddler was recruited by Zeon, taken from Creed. Though blind, his fighting ability was beyond exceptional, making this fight the hardest Eric had ever encountered. He chose to fight Lord Oddeye alone. It would be the hardest fight he'd ever had to fight.. they were both experienced, and besides that, Oddeye was once Oddler.. and during the short time they travelled, Eric had learned about the boy, becoming fast friends.

And now he had the choice to strike him down, or continue on. In what was the most emotional event in Eric's life, he struck down his old friend.

This is where the responsibility truly took hold. Feeling responsible for the death's of many, he felt the need to protect the rest. It was time for the final showdown with Zeon. Though King Galam was easily taken care of, Zeon was a different story. The battle with the massive demonic head was tedious.. and only after the king of the devil's guards were taken care of, were they able to really zero in on him.

Again, though the battle was long and hard, the Force came out victorious. There was only one opportunity, however, to save Princess Ellis, before she was swallowed by the Darkness. Where no other could do so, Eric transformed into the Shining Angel (see the description above), saving the Princess, and destroying Zeon for good.

Peace was temporary. Experimenting in higher forms of the Egress spell, Eric slipped dimensions, winding up in Hyrule. For a long while, he was unable to find his way back, his responsibility, however, keeping him for a long time in Hyrule. The land seemed to need a Hero, and just as well, served them up on a silver platter. Throughout the adventures (and later on, Kavin joined in on the 'fun' to assist) that happened then (all old RP's from way back when!), Eric only briefly returned to Granseal.

His aging, oddly enough, in this new dimension was slowed considerably, allowing him to watch Hyrule grow while his body aged a year for every thirty Hylian years. Though old by Hylian standards, he's been around long enough to constitute aging a few years in Gransealian standards. Though, he still seems the young, vibrant Hero from another dimension, patiently watching over Hyrule, should a time of need come upon the Hylians.

Damn. That took a while. Phew.

Thanks for reviewing the submission. If you have any questions, i'd be more than happy to answer. Thanks again! ^_^

Great and detailed bio, but it raised a few questions that I think might need to be answered:

1) Why did Creed give Eric the Running Ring?

2) How did the flying device crash?

3) How did he get the Jewel back?

4) Was there an 'eternal conflict' while he was fighting his friend?

5) What was the reaction of the group & Princess Ellis when he 'transformed'?

Thanks. I was trying to make it readable.. or, not as long as it could've been. Anyways, i'll answer your questions.

1) Why did Creed give Eric the Running Ring?

As a gift. Originally in Shining Force 2, you find the Running Ring when you return to a normal size in Creed's home. It's hard to see, but it's part of the terrain when you're tiny, and you can pick it up when you're bigger. Creed gives it to him as a gift, since he couldn't assist the Force himself, being retired himself.

2) How did the flying device crash?

Ran out of energy. ;P

3) How did he get the Jewel back?

I had forgotten to mention this before. Early in the adventure he was given the Jewel of Light by Slade (who still had it), and they retrieved the Jewel of Evil on the corpse of a General the Force later defeats. Probably a big part I forgot to mention. Bah.

4) Was there an 'eternal conflict' while he was fighting his friend?

Eternal conflict? You mean internal conflict? Likely. Never really sat down to think about it a whole lot, but I suppose that'd leave a mark on the psyche to have to fight and kill an old friend.

I attached a picture that was drawn from Shining Force Central. I think it explains the situation a little better. Kinda. >_>

5) What was the reaction of the group & Princess Ellis when he 'transformed'?

Awe. Most of them don't even remember it ever happening, most of the Force having either been knocked unconcious or the worse case, dead. Just for dramatics.

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

You've been gone a while Eric and the rules changed somewhat - DJ changed them. So please re-read and re-post the bio. Since you probably didn't know the chages of rules, I'll let you slip this one time.
