But if there was a mechanism created for people to safely post spoilers without ruining games for others, then that would just be endorsing spoilers now wouldn't it?

To retain a strict zero tolerance policy, things need to remain suffiently harmful.

Unfortunately that doesn't work too well in the Zelda Storyline and Zelda Timeline forums, because the quote box is exactly the same background colour as the background of the posts.

You see, I once was able to first put the spoiler in between quote tags, and then turn the text white. Since the quote box was invariably white, that made the text the same colour as the background and people who wanted to read the spoilers then only had to highlight the box to read it.

On another set of forums i went to, they had turned it into an actual Spoiler tag so instead of me having to put quote tags and then font color tags, all i had to do was press a little button that created a spoiler tag. (I think it was the megaman.retrofaction.com forums).

Sites like TelevisionWithoutPity black out their spoilers and The Prophecy have this way of making them the same as whatever your background is with "Spoiler:" in bold white before it. All using the
Spoiler : click to show/hide
format. The quoting method, won't work in Zelda (where the majority of spoilers are) and well... that's it.

Just yesterday I posted spoilers about the locations of four relatively hard to find dungeons in LoZ for a guy (as if there's anybody that would have it spoiled by now). I didn't use a quote box, I just colored my text to approximate the background, and it seemed to work. I always worry, though, that the person I do something like that for might honestly be too stupid to follow the instructions "highlight with your mouse to read". If there were a better way, I'd use it.

Heavens, it really ain't that hard. Like Garsh said, do the color the spoiler white and 'highlight with your mouse to read' method...or else just use the quotes...

Or you can just bold, uppercase, color and/or large font your censor or SPOILER in any combination you want- if they have half a brain then they're gonna get the point! And if they don't pay attention...well, they certainly can't complain that they didn't see the warning.

But the colours don't match perfectly and I can still see them. I tend to skim-read backwards too before reading forwards for some odd reason. Oh well.

Well you know, in the end it's Khuff who's the only one who knows how that Pandora's Box of Forum Options works, so he'll have to have his say. 'Till then, find the closest color and use it in the appropritate section - if you want to make it a spoiler, you'll have to work a little harder (which in itself isn't hard at all) to do so.

I know, because no one can be arsed to find the exact HEX code for the background. Wait. Does VBcode even accept HEX?

That's the colour for the background of the Zelda skin?

And it works! Woohoo!

Can an admin, put the spoiler information somewhere in the rules because I'm sure new members aren't going to just *know* what they have to do.

If I had FTP access and knew what I am doing, I would have installed a spoiler tag a long time ago. Unfortunately, I don't, and I don't, so I didn't.

Well I know on like the advent children forums..they have a seperate subforum for Spoiler related info for like Final Fantasy VII (the main subject obviously) annd if you wanted access to that forum..you PMed an Admin and asked for the password. They passworded it so the morons who accidently stumble into that forum can be protected from seeing spoiler related threads.

Indeed. Why find an elegant, yet simple solution to a common problem when a fudged approximation exists, and we can simply ban people for posting spoilers instead.

Clearly, if you can't be expected to type out [quote=spoiler][color=white] for the sake of doing the rest of the users a favor, then you have no business on the internet.

Why, in my day, HTML was even more unwieldy than that. And you whippersnappers want to just be able to type [spoiler]...

Out my forums!

I was clearly refering to the idea of making a completely seperate forum.

That's makes even less sense. Given my limited experience with Admin CP, it'd take far less time and work to make a subforum for spoilers than it'd be to program spoiler tags.

Which is why we're doing neither, at least unless Khuff finds the time to think something like this is necessary for him to put in. And we're still trying to get dorm skins.

Background nearly equals white. Color for the Zelda forums has been given. If you don't want to go to the trouble of making the spoiler 'invisible' and saying it is, then just say SPOILER in big letters.

Seriously, do you really NEED anything other than that?
