i like them both. marin lives an ideal life on a tropical island, while malon works runs a farm by herself. malon dreams of a knight in shining armor and marin dreams of leaving koholint. they are both very kind people.

i think Marin = Malon, its prolly just a translation error... its just another character who appears in multiple LoZ's, one cant be modeled after another if they're technically the same character, plus, its not like this would be the first japanese- english name translation mistake

Well I can't find the website anymore, but it translated the whole windwaker game from japanese too english. And one of the pirates tells Link that Tetra actually had a brother but he died so she became leader instead.



English isn't my first language so don't argue with my english. I can speak different languages like Dutch and a little German.
Dutch is my first!

marin and malon are different, please. but all subsequent malons are the same.
er, what i mean by that is that the malons since the first one are .. you know.. like link.. and zelda.. but marin isn't one of those 'malons'

Regardless, I think Malon and Marin are equally cool characters. I should like Marin more, but I just don't. Not sure why. But she is/was the perfect choice for Link.

i remember one of the pirates saying the same thing in the english version, except it was her mother, not brother. maybe they changed it for the american version?

Yes I think so,just like one of the pirates is gay! x_x they deleted that too in the american version!! In Aryll's letters she describes that!

Well, he's still pretty *that way* in the english version as well, it's just not explicityly stated... I also remember someone mentioning once that Aryll's name in Japanese has some kind of connection with Marin's japanese name, which is why Aryll is always being followed around by those filthy seagulls. I think it was something to do with character notes in the Zelda Box.

The simmilarities between Marin and Malon are nothing new. But Look at ALttP Zelda! She's practically a blonde Malon!

Of course. Different artists. Different art styles. But one can clearly see how the character Malon evolved through incorparating traits from both Marin and Zelda. The weirdest thing is that Zelda has that whimsical whirls on the side of her hair kinda like Peach does. Malon has that too. Marin doesn't.

I believe one of the male pirates is still dressed as a woman in that painting in Hyrule Castle. Is that the gay pirate everyone's talking about?

BTW, before we started talking about queers that be here, I was going to say, I was comparing Marin to ARYLL, not Malon.

That would depend entirely on what Aryll's japanese name is because it sure as hell can't be Aryll. Aryruru doesn't sound right.

Thanks for that, Beno - I wasn't sure if there was any truth to that Aryll/Marin thing, just that I remember reading it somewhere... I think it was in regards to character notes given in the Zelda Box, but it might have been something else entirely. Still, the seagull thing sounded convincing, which is why I remembered it, I suppose...

Say, don't you have the Zelda Box, Beno? Is there any notes on things like that given in it?

I am actually working on creating a translation for the entire Zelda Box. I haven't gotten to the character notes on Aryll yet (I am skipping around a bit, to keep things interesting), but I'll skim over it in a bit and see if I see anything about gulls or Marin in there.
