This is a very rough cut of my Fallout 4 Survival run as the Courier from New Vegas, complete with soundtrack and New Vegas era weaponry. I think it came together okay, though I debated whether the main titles should come before or after the daily journal entry. It's still a freshman effort because I'm having to relearn everything in a new film editor.

The music was ID'd by youtube. I can keep the video up without issue, but it can't be monetized and mobile access is restricted.

Copy and pasting my Facebook post because laziness.

I loved the intro! I don't know anything about Fallout, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but still interesting nonetheless.

I know you mentioned the idea behind the LP was going to be a narrative driven one, so I was wondering if you planned to add some monologuing during gameplay, either via recording or by overlaying text? Just curious is all.

The intro really was excellent. The only problem with that was the font is small and I found it kinda hard to read, but I imagine that can't actually be changed.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot else for me to comment on. Raia shoots some bandits and sets up a camp. Not a lot of character interaction for me to see why people would watch later installments, and it's possible a silent protagonist will make that even harder. At the moment, it's almost indistinguishable from a vanilla Let's Play save the music...which is it's own can of worms, as I'm sure monetizing will make it easier for you to make future installments.

That said, you have content! I'm miles away from having that.

I can try to make the intro font larger, but it might not be possible. I use a program that's an emulator for the OS that's in the games. It's nifty because it allows you to make large text documents like that as if you were really using the "terminal," but it's done via Dosbox, so options are little limited.

I debated doing voice-over or something like that, but I also think it could be very jarring for people who have "their" Courier in mind when watching. A lot of people get turned off when reading fanfics/seeing video of an avatar-style MC that overtly differs from theirs. There's risk/reward to the idea. Fallout also isn't big on character interaction -- even the permanent companions have limited dialogue. It's all about the world. That was the main motivation behind the survivalist's journal approach.

Inner monologue voice-overs could be possible, though setting up a quiet place to record is gonna be a challenge in a house occupied by 4.5 people and numerous dogs.

Another option: The Courier has a little floating robot companion named ED-E in New Vegas (who also has plenty of backstory in NV). Instead of just exploring, I could have the Courier search for their missing robot pal through the ruins of Boston. There's a mod to add ED-E as a companion in Fallout 4. Or orchestrate a way to have the Courier well... be a courier and deliver something to Boston.

Actually, yes. I may actually do that and rework the intro text to be a little more inspiring/motivating. I might also add a closing journal entry to describe what the Courier's reflections / plans going forward (easy if I film the whole series at once, but I haven't filmed any beyond this one for testing purposes).

Voice-overs might need some experimentation, but without something the video feels dry. On the one hand, you're definitely right that Fallout isn't really about character interaction the way a Bioware game might be, but you can also see that as an opportunity to build whatever character interactions you want on top of it.

I completely understand the problems of recording over a busy household, though. The room I'm going to be using as a studio is right next to our kitchen--the noisiest room in the house. I'm considering hanging the microphone so I can point it down and into the carpeting, for instance.

That said, let me share some interesting finds of mine on soundproofing things:
