Let's continue this trend of Eggy spamming the S&H forum, shall we?

Unfortunately, this topic? It's kinda important. And it's definitely going to bleed over to Contro territory.

If you're not familiar with CRISPR, here's a rundown in much greater depth than I've heard before.

This is...big. A few of the articles I've read before this say that genetic therapy is now something you can do in a garage rather than in a lab. I think that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the picture; the limits on GMO technology are now technical knowledge, which is something the internet makes really accessible.

My guess is that over the next decade we will see an explosion of GMO research. This is likely going to be bigger than graphene; graphene is still $100 a gram almost 15 years after we figured out it was a thing because we barely know how to make the stuff. But this is going to make consumer-end products hit market soon.

I'll reserve further thoughts for the moment to keep this post focused. What are your thoughts about CRISPR? What are your big fears going forward?

I think the video hit the nail on the head as far as my thoughts on the matter. It's important that we stay the course with this type of research because the amount of good it can do could be monumental. However, we as a society need to exercise the utmost sense of caution while proceeding down this path because of the effects it could have on humanity as a whole. Once the door is open, it can't be shut so we need to be sure of what we are doing.
