Remember back in the 90's when MTV actually was worth watching? All those cool music videos, and the occasional cartoons? Yeah, well, seems like as of late there hasn't been a single one music video, at all. It's just like, reality shows and stuff like that. Kinda depressing, actually. Even MTV2 doesn't seem like it's good. I wish they'd bring the old MTV back, what do you guys think?

MTV.... what have they done with you?

I honestly don't even know what MTV shows these days or why they still call themselves MTV (because I know that whatever they show, it isn't music). But apparently they are going to start an MTV Classic channel! If I had cable I'd probably be excited about that. XD

It pretty much stopped being profitable. Youtube took the whole music video scene over -- stars know they'll get instant attention there. Same with movie trailers. Remember when you had to go to the Quicktime website to see the latest movie trailers?
Fittingly, the shift to youtube is exactly the same thing that happened when MTV stole all the attention from radio.

Funny this topic is approached now: tomorrow is MTV's 35th birthday.
EDIT: The only reason I know this is because it was mentioned on the radio. Irony?

I never watched MTV as a child, but this is the exact sentiment I have for my formerly educational channels. I LOVED channels like Discovery, History, Animal Planet, etc. as a kid, especially the more documentary-ish shows, but now it's nothing but garbage reality TV shows. I honestly can't even remember the last time I remember seeing an Animal Planet show actually being about animals, instead of cops or fucking tree houses.
Sometimes I'll get lucky in the middle of the night and catch a How It's Made/Modern Marvels marathon, but that's about it anymore.

When I was a kid, if it wasn't a cartoon I had no interest in it. Same can be said for MTV, nothing on that channel interested me except Beavis and Butthead and Celebrity Deathmatch. And I always missed them whenever they were on. However, I have come to appreciate Jackass in my later years.
