So over the past year, I've really gotten into video game collecting. One of my friends of college got me into it after we realized we both were both passionate retro gamers. Due to our current financial situaitons, our collecting trips have become fewer and far between, but we both still really enjoy going on a good hunt once every so often. I've honestly found the search for collectible games is its own source of fun and joy, as well as frustration and wallet pains.

So I'm just curious, are there any other collectors on LA, and if so what do you collect for? Personally, I collect for a bit of everything, and I've picked up a number of new systems recently due to my resurgent interest in the matter. I'm sure I'll eventually get around to posting the games I own, but for now I'll just post the systems I'm currently collecting for.

NES

SNES

N64

Gamecube

Wii

Wii U

Genesis

Saturn

Dreamcast

PS1-3

Xbox

Xbox 360

Atari 2600

I do pick up the occasional handheld game, including all Nintendo handhelds and PSP, but those are far less common.

I sorta collect? I always buy games with the intention of playing through them but then I'll grab a game like Nocturne or Xenoblade that just seem too involved for me to get into. So they sort of just sit on my shelf looking pretty.

I semi collect games for all the old Nintendo consoles. Mostly I just buy games that I intend to play, but occasionally I'll buy one as sort of... an informational piece, I guess? XD For instance, Doom for the SNES. I knew that I would almost never play it, but for some reason it seemed like a game I should have.  :cucco:

I buy a lot of games and rarely sell them.  Does that count?

My archives go back to the SNES.  My NES collection is sadly gone because my NES died and a girl made me stupid.

I'd say it's less collecting and more hoarding... >.>

I'll have to list everything later when I'm at home and can take inventory.

What's the difference between a hoarder and a collector?

A bookshelf.

I have a small set of NES games and the SNES games from my childhood.  I never had an N64 growing up but I was given one and have a couple games for that.  Nowadays I have to admit that I check Virtual Console first before buying carts.  Sadly it's a bit more affordable (a lot of the carts I would otherwise buy are too crazy expensive - Earthbound I'm looking at you) and they also don't take up physical space.

I don't go out there and buy  games for the sake of having them, but yeah, I never sell my games and hang onto them so I guess? I like having physical discs, and it's very weirdly soothing and calming to look at a shelf and see them all lined up there, much like books and movies and other things, but at the same time if it's a ludicrous savings I'll go digital.

I'm actually a little surprised I've never categorized my games the same way I've done my movies and Transformers. Now I kinda want to do it.

Yeah, I never buy a game I don't intend to beat, so I don't go out of my way to purchase them. Although Vet and I are both in the proud "wait to buy games until 5 years after their release so that we can get them dirt cheap" club. And since a lot of those games are on Steam, I suppose it doesn't count -- no physical display.

I do love me some art books, though. And soundtracks.

I would buy more if I weren't poor, but alas. Didn't win the lotto.

Another admin here, for the "wait to buy games until 5 years after their release so that we can get them dirt cheap" club! XD Well, some of them, anyway.
