Good night, sweet prince. You will be missed.
Here's a list of his achievements throughout the years.

Well, that caught me off guard. Sad, sad day for Nintendo fans everywhere.

You know, he wasn't the perfect CEO and was responsible for both some of the errors and jackpots of the company's last few years, but he always came across like he really was trying and was a hardworker, and him continuously taking the option of docking his pay rather then firing personnel to make up for the profit shortfalls always spoke volumes. And you always have to give it up for a tech company executive who started off as an actual programmer in the trenches and worked his way up.
He will be missed.

I AM IMMENSELY UPSET AND SAD BY THIS.
Damn shame, regardless of his track record. Considering the nature of the ailment, I wonder if they could have caught it sooner and avoided his death?

E3 makes more sense now. His health had been on the decline for a while. Jim Henson Studios was contacted so he wouldn't be seen in deteriorating health. Odds are, the Balloon Fight level of the Nintendo World Championship was probably added in specifically for him, so that he could see people enjoying one of hte first games he ever programmed. And he was able to show the board that his plan brought Nintendo back into the black before his passing.
This is a hard hit to the industry. EVERYONE felt this one. Just.......fuck...

This thread...
I couldn't remember how many threads like this one I have posted in when I first caught the wind of Mr. Iwata's death. The news reached me while I was looking around DeviantArt in my free time. It made me *very* upset, knowing Mr. Iwata's contributions had a huge impact on the gaming community in the era. It felt as if Nintendo won't be same without him and there are many others who shared my opinion, both in the net and real life.
I sometimes I wondered what he was thinking when he was staring at bananas back then, something other than the release of a new DK game. Which is why whenever I'm about to eat one, I would stare at it for a moment and be reminded of Mr. Iwata.
