So I love Konami's games.  I love Castlevania, I love Metal Gear, I love Contra, I love R-Type and I love the fuck out of their old Beat-em-ups (Turtles in Time on SNES = best in the genre.  Yes, better than the arcade version)

What I DON'T like however is what Konami's been doing as of late.  IE: Letting go of Hideo Kojima, firing hundreds of employees, merging whole studios into one single home base, and dedicating most/all of their time away from video games and into the electronic drug-pushing that is Pachinko and slot machines.  Oh, and YuGiOh, because you gotta start that addictive impulse buying young.

With that in mind, I know that a lot of folks still like the games they use to make.  And surprise, surprise, the developers of those games still wanna make them.

So, I submit to you, the new form of Castlevania; Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night.

Join former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi in reclaiming his genre with this crowd-funded middle finger to Konami's new gambling/card game business model.  The game has already met its goals and is working through its stretch goals pretty fast too.  I'd say it's worth tossing to get a copy of the game. The series may be dead, but the spirit lives on.  For Castlevania, I'd say that's pretty fitting.

First Mega Man, then Banjo, now Castlevania. I love that Kickstarter has given these industry veterans the ability to make their dream game for their respective genres, without having to deal with the compromises that comes with working with big publishers. My only question is which classic franchise is going to receive its spiritual successor next?

I'm in obviously.

On one hand, it's nice to see SOMETHING new come out.

On the other, I got really tired of IGA's CV games after awhile. I liked Symphony of the Night fine, sure, and the first couple GBA games, but after that I just got bored and thought they were really lackluster, save for Order of Ecclessia on the DS. While that'll keep me from directly supporting it, still, I hope it turns out and maybe being away from making them for so long will give him back a much needed boost of creativity and whatnot.

I was about to donate, but then I noticed something:

If funded, the game will be developed for XBOX One, Playstation 4, and PC.

The Wii U is not in this list.

This infuriates me more than it should. The Wii U has a pretty big online game market, why would they not bother with a Wii U port if they're obviously going multi-platform?

In their FAQ

WHAT ABOUT NINTENDO?

Our budget left us with two options: Build the biggest, most beautiful game we can, or make sure it runs everywhere from the start. As things stand today, we can't afford to create the two separate versions of this game that would be necessary to make it run on every console. That said, we've heard legends about a remarkable treasure hidden in the castle basement...

This is their pledge wall

I guarantee you the WiiU version is at the bottom of the pledges.

Huh... that definitely wasn't there when I last checked the page yesterday. The stretch goals only went up to the 850k mark then. Okay, mildly appeased.

And now that I look at their Kickstarter, this project is gaining money at an even more absurd rate than Yooka-Laylee. Their current stands as of this post are:

Yooka-Laylee: launched on May 1st, currently has £1,583,258 ($2,493,536.35 USD)

Bloodstained: launched on May 11th, currently has $1,894,051 USD

Remember when Yooka-Laylee had set the record for "fastest a Kickstarter reached $1,000,000 USD"? Yeah, so do I, it was a week ago. Bloodstained already blew that record away. Jesus Christ. Is it the season to throw money at our computer screens or something?

So it's official

The 3 million dollar stretch goal is a WiiU release

http://www.nintendol...al_of_the_night

It's got 21 days to make a little under half a million more dollars.  I think it's all but inevitable now.

WiiU goal successfully reached.  I'm getting the WiiU hard copy version and the PC digital.

Well, the Kickstarter has ended. It looked like things were going to peter out after the $3.5 mil Vita Port stretch goal was funded, but then on the last day things got heavily jumpstarted and the Army of the Night just plain rampaged through the last of the basement, up to and including the trap door that the bonus stretch goal was hidden under.

948038123f.jpg

Final Kickstarter results: over 65,000 backers pledged over $5.77 million USD including PayPal pledges, the highest amount of funding a game has ever achieved on Kickstarter, and the 7th most-funded project overall.

The amount of support for this has been phenomenal. This is looking to be the ultimate example of if a Kickstarted game with tons of funds can work out as envisioned.
