AKA Banjo Threeie

Considering that Playtonic Games is comprised almost entirely of former Rareware devs, I'm not even remotely shocked that this Kickstarter project skyrocketed on day one, just like Mighty No. 9 before it. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic about the new project, considering I had been following Grant Kirkhope's teasing and the mysterious Mingy Jongo account on Twitter for well over a year now.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that if nothing else, I expect this game to be a musical masterpiece, since both Grant Kirkhope (Banjo Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) are the game's composers.

It's got the right people handling it, although there is still too little to see and say for now as to whether it'll be good or not. No one seems to acknowledge that this game could be a total failure and what's worse is that people's expectations for this game might make it seem better in the head than it is in the flesh. I'm super excited for a re-imagined platformer like this to be made today, much like how Silent Hills was going to reintroduce Survival Horror to the modern game market but much like Silent Hills, a lot can go wrong between now and later. Cautiously optimistic for now.

That's the risk you take with Kickstarter.

I gave them $23 for a WiiU download of the game.  Should be worth trying at least, right?

it's more then made its goal and isn't far from its final stretch goal, which is a decent sign. Though honestly, if it's all that good I'd probably be okay just waiting and buying it on release then throwing in money now.

I really hope they do a good job of balancing the "humor" of leaning into how obvious it is everyone is a stand in for someone from BK wig making sure it's a good and fun game in and of itself even with all that stripped away.

Eh, I don't think they'll have any problem with it. Banjo-Kazooie itself was fully aware of the fourth wall, and that was part of its charm. If anything, this gives the old Rareware devs working on this more potential to ramp up the humour, and they'd either have to be out of practice or out of touch to waste it that badly.

I'm quite amused at how quickly the Kickstarter took off. It's been a while since I've seen so many additional stretch goals broken that the dev team just runs out of ideas and has to add "any more money goes to polishing the product" as an addendum. Within less than three days of posting, at that!

I would be excited if it wasn't a kickstarter. I'm cynical.

I would actually be far more worried if it were slated as a AAA release with a $40 million budget. Kickstarter can, in fact, be done right, but if your budget is too big, marketing departments start getting googley-eyed over preorders and Q1 sales. Cue the hype machine and premature launch.

The orchestra stretch goal was reached, and now they have a new one at £2,000,000: if they hit it, they'll start making DLC for the game after release, free for backers and purchasable for the rest. Once again, the "additional funds will be used for polish" notice is suffixed to it. I didn't think much of seeing that "incentive" added to the orchestra goal, but the promise of free DLC is actually quite smart because it will draw in lots new backers, and there's now the possibility that the game will end up with even more content than planned but with the extra funds allowed to polish it.

It took less than eleven days to get £1,500,000, and the donations are still going strong and will no doubt get stronger with this new stretch goal. This is incredible. I'm starting to consider throwing in £20 myself for the demo.

Ugh. Too much, too quickly. I understand these guys have made games before but can they actually do everything they're going for in the stretch goals? At this rate, I can't see this game coming to a console or anywhere for years if they try to cramp everything in.

I never played BK but I am still excited for this project.

Gotta agree with this. I am not expecting a quick release with so many stretch goals full filled.

I am tranquil with the orchestra goal reached.

Yes, quick releases like that are seldom met at Kickstarter. Remember that Banjo inspired game: "A Hat in Time"? It is still in beta stage afaik, but fortunately Gears-for-Breakfast is still making progress on that.
