Well, this looks like an interesting thing to try to do.
I was introduced to Machinae Supremacy, a little over a year ago by now, in the form of this song, and it really strongly resonated with me. I don't know why, I guess there's just something to it that really appealed, with this sense of fighting back against a feeling of things not being right, like a restlessness for the status quo, trying to percevere and keep doing better than before.

Well, here's some more.
Last summer, when I walked down to the local Dollar General, I was browsing stuff for kicks and giggles when I noticed a game called "El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron" on one of the dvd shelves. I wasn't sure how seriously to take it since the name game me the impression of it maybe being some sort of cheesy bible game. The cover art looked decent at least, and when I read the back, I noticed the credits included the art director for Okami (perhaps my most favorite game ever), the game's back professing amazing visuals... It also boasted a vehicle section which seemed silly but hey, it was at a bargain bin price, so I decided to give a try.
My try was rewarded with not only a visual treat for the eyes, one of the most visually brilliant games I've played I dare say, but a sweet soundtrack. When I got an amazon gift card for christmas, one of the first things I thought to splurge on was the soundtrack for this game.

Erutan is probably one of my most favorite singers/musicians to listen to on youtube. Her voice is fantastic, and she is capable of doing incredibly heart-touching arrangements of songs. This song, an arrangement of the credits theme from Metroid Prime just feels so awesome, taking the techno-y sound of the original (which wasn't bad in itself) and giving it this earthly quality that transforms the piece astoundingly while still being the same, still being grounded in the mystic feel of the original.

I love Gradius V, and especially for what it tries to do with the music, especially rearranging older tracks from series. Granted, Gradius as a series tends to do that , but Gradius V had the tremendous benefit of the PS2's sound capability and composition by Hitoshi Sakimoto (aka the guy who did the music for Final Fantasy XII, the Final Fantasy Tactics series, Ogre Battle, Radiant SIlvergun, and many, many more). One of my favorites is an arrangement of the classic Big Core battle theme used as far back as the first Gradius game. Sakimoto did a fantastic job of taking What was basically an 8-second loop and transforming it into a fantastical, epic battle theme.

So I've been playing this game called Azure Striker Gunvolt, and it's pretty cool, scratches that Mega Man itch I get from time to time. I discovered that one of the cool things that can happen is, if you do well enough in a level (that is, rack up enough "kudos" points from killing enemies without being hit), the background music for the level changes, with a support character singing a song as it were. It's pretty awesome, it feels like you're doing so well that you begin to be followed by a chorus singing praises of just how badass you are.
