Has anyone heard of the artist James Jean, or seen any of his work? I came across him while browsing Ello, and fell in love with his style. If none here have heard of/seen his work, I am sure a few of you will really like it.

Check out his stuff here: http://www.jamesjean.com/

Also, I hope this was the right place to post this. I wasn't sure...

Oh yes, he's one of my favorites. :) I actually really like his sketchbooks over his paintings.

o_0  I got distracted and forgot to look through his sketches! I do want his Kindling book though. Like, as soon as I can, I am buying it!

James Jean is incredible. I got turned on to him by reading Fables, for the first few years of the series when he was doing the covers. I began following his work outside of comics as well. I've yet to see anything of his that hasn't induced some level of slack-jawed gawking.

Incidentally, Fables is also an incredible comic. I haven't been following it the last few years, because it just got too far ahead of me, but now that it's ending I can pick up the rest of it. I don't know if the quality level has stayed the same since I left off, but for the first seven years of it at least it was maintaining a stupendously high bar for consistent greatness for an ongoing series.

I had the chance a few years ago to see James Jean do a talk at RISD, which was more or less him going over his entire portfolio over the years. His older work is definitely better than his more recent stuff (at the time) which consisted of rainbow holes in human forms and looked kinda weird and half-assed. He even went on about how he used to do covers for DC's Green Arrow and would intentionally not follow the art director's requests and somehow came off as confused as to why he didn't get called back for more work. I suppose his personality as an artist sort of rubbed me the wrong way but that would be getting into personal bias.

Though from what I saw of his work from this year, it's nice that he's kinda gone back to his older influences.

Yeah, I agree that his older work is a lot better. There haven't been too many recent paintings of his that have impressed me. :\

I haven't actually paid much attention to the artist himself, lol, just his work. I have a bad habit of totally forgetting about the person behind the paintings.

Maybe I am just weird. I was impressed by a lot of the stuff displayed on his website. Not do much the gif images. but some of the other stuff was very captivating for me.

Speaking of newer work, has anyone seen his Ninja Turtle designs? I have my reservations on James Jean as a whole but DAMN I love these.

I do like that depiction of the Turtles. Pretty awesome. Is that the only one, or did he do others?

Leonardo for now, but the idea is that the others will interlock with each other to make larger statue-figure. A 3-D version of the illustration. It doesn't help though that they'll be mad expensive when they come out.
