So this was brought up on Facebook a little while ago and I decided to make this thread to establish what the plans were for Chronicles, specifically the three year old story The Day the Wind Died.

Participants in this story are myself, S_L, Sir Turtlelot, Leo Crimson, Ken the Wandering Soul, Sir Deimos, Egann featuring Selena, tsume and Goose with supporting roles.

I tried to keep some stuff to myself to keep the suspense and the surprise alive and well during the story. Everything has been on a need to know basis for each character. I would like to keep some things to myself until the time is right to reveal them, to keep the story interesting and surprising. That being said, I'll say what I can tell for now:

TDTWD was going to be my last story, bringing a close the the Calatia/Koridai arc of the ongoing Chronicles story that Steel Samurai started a few years ago. It was also my chance to resolve the unfolding events that I had peppered in here and there for my characters. What I wanted to establish by the end of this story was closure, pure and simple. I'm not claiming to be a great writer, just one who doesn't leave loose ends untied and untidy. I have the rest of the plot down, more or less. I know exactly what I want to write and how I want it to play out. And of course, I sometimes need specific people to post to progress parts of the story, since it's coming from two different sides (Calatia side and Koridai side) I try to stretch things out in one to buy more time for the other until both sides can meet in the middle.

So long as people post and help progress the story, I can end said story. Simple as that.

What aims do the rest of you all have for TDTWD?

WORLD DOMINATION!

...

Sorry, wrong character.

Anyways, here's more or less what I had envisioned for this thread, although I hadn't planned on doing any of this without running it by a few of you beforehand. We were just so far away from any of this happening that I didn't feel the need with bothering with PMs yet.

-Purge Gwen of Lazu, the given. A nonviolent approach would have been taken first, such as reasoning with Gwen, with a potential fight happening if attacked.

-Epic showdown with Lena over the mirror and Chikara's remaining power, assuming she were to go after it.

-Binding Lazu's power to Diel's armor. This was the main point that would have been needed to be discussed beforehand. I wasn't sure what anyone had in mind in terms of this, but my idea was to end the potential duel with Lena by having Turtlebro absorb the power himself to prevent anyone else from wielding it. I was hoping to have it as a bit of twist at the end.  However, the two conflicting divine powers in his body would have been too much for the armor to handle and would cause it to start cracking, ending with Turtleguy blasting off to the polar ice caps to seal himself away with both divine powers.

Anyways, those were the few ideas I had in mind, but I'm totally okay with changing them up to fit what everyone else thinks would be best. My imagination tended to get way ahead of where we were in the story.  :P

Well, I suppose I SHOULD explain why I injured my character.

If you haven't figured Eggs out, he's an order mage in a chaotic era. The stress of being exposed to the madness partially splintered his consciousness into order and disorder portions, and my other character, Lester, has put them back together several times.

That's why Egann's inner narration in italics changes font occasionally. It's a parallel consciousness which is disorder based, and it will draw or be repressed by the auras around him.

In any case, I injured Egann because magic can enter the body through an open wound. To be honest, I was kinda planning on winging it, but I figured at least four possibilities for the magic which could wind up in that wound.

Order magic from Jordan or Turtlelot: Supercharges Egann's lightning magic, represses his inner voice to tiny font. May or may not leave a connection to source of the magic, depending on how the other player feels about it and their eventual fates. Possibly a seed which could make Egann into the next avatar eventually, but at a To Be Determined price. Kinda my least favorite option, as Egann is supposed to be the ant in a world of supermen, and it kinda goes against his character concept to be someone in power.

Disorder magic from Gwen: This kinda depends on what actually happens to her, but as Gwen is another order personality the connection would pass to the next avatar. The connection would follow the magic, not the character. Egann winds up someone the next avatar has to kill to gain full avatar powers in a Harry Potter-like way, except Egann is a tragic victim fighting to survive, not a boy of destiny with the power to fight back. I like this one. It fits Egann pretty well.

Disorder magic from Solomon: Fantastic. I have a crazy bastard who has momma issues in my head.

Disorder magic from Lena: Fantastic. I have a crazy bitch who has momma issues in my head. Same momma, too.

Also, timing for the last two would be critical. A bind to Lena or Solomon AFTER they're the avatar is just a bind to the avatar, whoever that happens to be. A bind BEFORE they become the avatar is a bond to the player character's native magic. Completely different things.

I was also planning this epic, but TRIPPY AS HELL sequence when Egann got hit. The way I pictured this, he only got hit with a splash of the magic on the wound and because that affected the balance of order and disorder in his mind, he basically has a stroke in the middle of a fight. Stuff like:

  • one eye's vision not lining up with the other. (Extreme case of double vision. Like one eye sees a character's face and the other their feet)
  • Loss of color vision
  • Total deafness
  • Total loss of balance
  • Demented and disturbing hallucinations of the player character source of the magic
  • He falls unconscious without actually being hit

To make things fair I was planning on giving him a post or two with his full magical power while he was having that stroke.

So yeah. That was what I had planned. Hope you liked it.

Wow you guys had plans.

I had no plans in this thread -- I was just jumping ship back to activity after Chik got wrapped up in real life. I was having my character masquerade as one of Gwen's handmaidens, since I have insider knowledge on what it's like to be the avatar of Lazu. And then since most of you guys were under the impression that me and Chik had died or vanished, I was going to have a big reveal when you all came in to confront Synile and/or Gwen. You know...

tumblr_inline_mxl25hw5SY1qze4sz.gif

But then I was just going to play it up for laughs and just go "hey how's it going? what's going on?"

There had been tentative plans to have Virrat invade the west in order to have a new villain for everyone to team up against. Chik and I had been setting up that up somewhat in our Thelma and Louise thread. We planned that without knowing that Jerp had big plans, though. It possibly could have incorporated the destruction of Koridai and Calatia to commemorate the death of the dorms.

But then all of us got distracted by real life.

Either way, my plans were never too solid. I was just winging it.

The real question I want answered is if this is going to be the end of LA Chron, because activity's been waning and this is likely to be the best shot we're going to have at a scripted finale.

For what it's worth, I don't want it to end here. I know I wasn't posting because it's been months since there was activity, and I imagine if two or three players made a commitment to a post a week--no minimum word count; it's just to keep activity flowing--LA Chron would be fine. If we know how many active players are still interested, we can write the ending to fit the needs of the players.

Conversely, if we need to end the Chronicles, this is where to do it. It's a decision we should make together because how this thread ends will determine everything about the Chronicles in the future.

I'm in the party of continuing Chronicles. It was a lot of fun, and I still have some more ideas for future story arcs I would like to do. Granted, I probably wouldn't be able to make any real commitments to anything until about May, since this semester has too many important classes that I have to keep focused on. Although after this semester, I'm pretty much done with my degree, save for a few obscure classes I'm taking over the summer and fall.

It was my aim that the cursed sword Synile uses would be destroyed, restoring to him some semblence of his sanity. As a repentant Synile he'd go with the flow of whatever is going on.

That was my idea anyway. Then my actual life descended back into chaos itself, so....

I've been content this entire time to just go along with what JR, Lena, or the rest of you guys had in mind; so I'm fine with however you want to end this.

But I'm definitely in favour of continuing the Chronicles after this, even it's on a limited basis because of school and work.

Optimistic me: I like the Chronicles, they have a soft spot in my heart, and I don't want to see them end. So write on, if writin' on is what you wanna do.

Realistic me: I honestly don't see activity returning. If it died for this long, it's probably not a sign that any of us will have time to devote to it as we continue to get older. We're all busy with work and/or university and/or life in general now that we're grown ups.

I wouldn't ever close them in case anyone wanted to make posts here and there -- but I'll be honest, I probably no longer have the time or drive to genuinely make posts here anymore. Work is stressful, looking for other work is even more stressful, and most of my writing 'oomph' is directed on other projects now.

I'm with Lena with this one, responsibilities and drive and all that jazz are going off to different things. I know that after this story, I won't be able to really put in the same punch as I was when I first started. That's why I wanted this to end well so at the very least I could get one more hurrah in before the curtains close. I can still see myself participating in some extent in Chronicles, just not the way I used to. More as a support character in stories rather than full fledged main ones.

The thing is when you have too specific of an idea of how you want things to play out, it gets really hard to get things written the way you want it to, especially when these specifics fall on other people to write out. That's something I learned during this and the last big story here in Chronicles.

Deimos, if for any reason you have an evening you can spare (an hour or so) we might be able to get the Koridai side of the story to the point where we can start that fabled part where we Calatia group actually gets into the Arbiter's Grounds.

For what its worth as the former voice of Lazu Himself, I really love your idea of binding his power to Diels armour, Turtlelot. Back in the early developments, Lazu and Diel - as were their avatars - were opposing but equal rivals, respectful of the power each other held, rather than nemeses. Diel XIV and Lazu-ru-Keel each knew it was the others duty to oppose them and were quite amicable to each other, despite their battles and confrontations.

I support that idea of combining and containing them. :D

And then I stumble into the thread because I didn't realize things were actually happening in LA Chronicles.

When TDTWD went under from inactivity, I really had no basis of a plan at the time other than "use Key of Fire to transform, use it in an epic battle with Synile". Other than that my character was just trying to lead the entourage, while I myself was trying to piece together what everyone else was doing.

If we do want to start this again, I'll participate and try not to forget that the RP section exists this time.

Haha, no worries man. Have to say though, you might want to clean out your inbox for messages. I've tried many times to send messages your way and since you're not on the facebook group I didn't have many alternatives. Good to see you though and I hope we can get this ship sailing again!

So is anyone from this thread still interested in finishing this story? I would really like to give it a proper ending, and I figure if 2 or 3 of us could make some time to collaborate on writing it, we could finally put this thing to rest.

That is if the rest of you are okay with some third party usage of your characters. We could work out some sort of approval process for those parts, if need be.

I would like to finish the thread off, but I'm too busy to post at the moment. Don't bother waiting for me; co-op my character or fabricate an excuse for him to drop out of the action (whichever suits your needs better) but finishing the plot-line is much more important. I'll tag-in if that's still relevant when I can.

And I think Egann the character not having control over the ending? That's actually very appropriate.

Feel free to write the POV of mine, JR - it's been so long I've forgotten how to do this and it isn't something in my interests at the moment either.

I just ask you to at least keep my character alive in case in the future this gets revived or I get into it again. :P

No worries. There is a very strong chance that

1. This is going to be the last major story ever written here. Activity on this forum isn't really booming, so this is a safe thing to suggest.

2. It won't get an ending like a normal story. If need be, I'll write out a synopsis of the event as they unfold. Time is a factor for all of us now and it's usually a commodity we have so little of.

So, I really would like to close this story down before we migrate forums. It's been the better part of a year since I actually had a real writing prompt, and this strikes me as a good one.

At this point I'm leaning toward sealing the avatars away with Diel's armor. I think at this point making a plot-twist that sealing the two together will create a world-ending storm seems appropriate, but I'm not hard-set on either directions. I will listen to hard vetos and honor requests as best I can.

If no one objects...I will write a continuation post by the end of the month and leave the floor open for other character farewells as long as possible before the end.

I agree with Egann on finishing the story. We could make it one last hurrah for LA Chronicles.

I second the sealing of the avatars to Diel's armor, but oppose the world ending storm. I wouldn't mind the ability to come back and maybe write short stories set in the LA Chronicles universe.

I've actually been in the process of writing a rough draft for the way I envisioned the binding process to go, using a very small amount of characters, since I didn't know what everyone's condition would be at the point in the story. I haven't said much about it since it's still a work in progress though. I wouldn't mind collaboration between those still interested in wrapping things up.

I have been working on two things: One being a summary of the events that happened during the story and the other being what I planned the ending to be. I think trying the finish the story now would be too little too late since Synile/Deimos, SL and Ken are all very much absent from the forums or at least Chronicles.

I plan on posting the summary sometime soon, since the forum went down with my would be post a few weeks back.
