It would be fine if the poet didn't put words that obviously didn't rhyme but looked as if they rhymed together! Oh, by the way... how do you guys pronounce "issue"?

This is what happens when you:
a) Get invaded by Normans and marginalize the native language for a few hundred years
b) Let scholars change spellings to make it look like words had Latin roots
c) Don't ever refresh spelling to keep up with the evolution of language
d) All of the above

I would say ee-shuu or ih-shoo or ish-oo depending on whether I'm talking about a problem, an volume of a magazine/periodical/etc, or using it as verb that's a synonym for distribute, respectively. It would be fine if the poet didn't put words that obviously didn't rhyme but looked as if they rhymed together! Oh, by the way... how do you guys pronounce "issue"?

Yeah, except I keep hearing the BBC presenters say "ih-syue" on Radio 4.

And a hiccough is pronounced like "hiccup."
Hiccup is spelt hiccough?

I'm assuming it used to be spelled like "hiccough" and then with the evolution of language the spelling changed.

I was worried it was going to come off like that and nobody would click it and everyone would think I was a big jerk.

Because it's hilarious.
