Score 1 for marriage equality! I wanted to put this in the commons but figured this may be best here.

Ugh, I'm so tired about reading about these boring steps. We're scum to have not granted full equality yet.

It's a huge step. I wish they had also ruled on Prop 8, but it think it is also a huge win that Prop 8 looks to have ultimately failed.

Pretty happy the justices supported equality by striking down DOMA. I find it a bit hypocritical that earlier this week they did not likewise support equality by striking down affirmative action, but that's another thread.
...or maybe I'm just trying to start some shit because I have an ax to grind.

Unfortunately, the wording of the Supreme Court's ruling implies they're going to leave the issue of Gay Marriage a matter of 'state's rights', which makes the chance of federal gay marriage equality in every state of the country less likely than it was before.

Yes, but look at how many judges ruled against DOMA. The way the Judges went still shows how divisive the subject is. There's nothing to say it won't be overturned next year.
This very rarely ever happens. I think it has only happened 10 times in the history of the court. The court changing it's mind and so soon after the decision was made is very unlikely.

I don't see it. If anything this makes it more likely others will challenge the laws in their state.

Oh, okay then.

I don't get you. So removing a federal ban on gay marriage makes it less likely for federal gay marriage equality in every state of the country?
