Today I'm going to go with the Vienna Clarinet Connection. I was actually going to post a different video, but when I was looking through their YouTube account I came across this one that was even cooler, so I decided to post it instead.

White Hinterland - "Lindberghs + Metal Birds"

 

The singer, Casey Dienel, reminds me of a quirky Ingrid Michaelson. This song is from Phylactery Factory, her first album with White Hinterland. Her albums so far seem to get progressively weirder and more electronic. I like all of what I've heard, but the first album just makes me extra happy.

Caravan Palace - "Jolie Coquine"

 

Caravan Palace is a French electroswing band. To me they sound sort of old-fashioned, but in a slightly demented kind of way. This video is really neat too.

Pain - "Chuck al Hashib"

 

This song pretty much epitomizes high school for me. The guys on the drumline used to listen to this band, and this song in particular was the one they always sang on the bus on the way to football games. The drum rhythms are pretty distinctive, and they'd always drum on the seats, their shoes, whatever. The song and the rest of this album spread to those of us who were friends with the drummers and then on to our friends who weren't in band. Oh man, this band is so much nostalgia.

Meryn Cadell - "The Sweater"

 

This is a spoken song concerning a teenage girl's thoughts about a boy's sweater. It's super.

Sting - "Love is Stronger than Justice"

 

This is kind of a western-themed story song, and the chorus is done in a more typical country style.. but the verses are all in 7, so it has this strange cowboy jazz sort of feeling to it.

They were my favorite band. I'm still mourning them.

Priscilla Ahn - "The Boobs Song"

 

Since coming across this song, I'm convinced that if my husband were a pretty little mellow-sounding girl, he would be her. She's playing acoustic guitar and kazoo along with singing in this one. (Bonus song: Dream ... shh, don't tell Vet!)

I try to use this thread partially to showcase music that I think a lot of people might not be familiar with, but sometimes there's a song that for whatever reason just fits too perfectly with what I'm feeling and I have to go with that. If you've read my other thread then you'll probably know why this song popped into my head today and wouldn't go away. Obviously our situation isn't the same as the one in this song, but damn if that chorus isn't just getting to me right now. XD
