This is my favorite song ever. It's just... perfect music in my opinion. And I don't even like Pink Floyd that much, I think they're overrated.

I got hooked on The Black Keys back in high school when my friend played their albums regularly while he drove us there. I adore the gritty, blues-driven sound. Their albums that have got the most attention, Brothers and El Camino, are by no means bad albums, but pale in comparison to Rubber Factory and Attack and Release. They're my favorite band.

I couldn't call Young the Giant a favorite band, it doesn't feel right since they only have one album, which came out in 2010. But the album, Young the Giant is spectacular. It's so summery and light, it's one of those albums I can, and have, listened to on repeat for months at a time and not get tired of. Good stuff.

Guster marked a new age of music for me. I now made a concerted effort to find and listen to music, instead of just listening to what other people liked when I was around them. They were my first "discovery", and I love Ganging Up on the Sun a lot. It's indie, it's pop, but it's different. I don't like any of their other albums, really. Too much pop. But Ganging Up on the Sun will always have a special place with me.

Check this guy out. Especially if you're into classic rock.

I have connections with a media professor at a nearby university, who gave me a bunch of promotional CD's from their radio station because he was tired of having so many. No complaints. They were all bad, except for Beard, Wives, Denim. An Aussie throwback to prog/psych rock of the 70's, it's wonderful to listen to. Some tracks in particular show off their influences very obviously, such as Led Zeppelin.

In my mind, The Strokes are essential to the genre. I kind of consider them the core, which I base my taste around. Or at least The Strokes from their first two albums. Didn't listen to their third. Didn't like Angles. Didn't like their newest album. But Room on Fire and Is This It? are absolutely genre defining.

I don't have a lot to say about Yuck, I don't know much about them. This is just another one of those albums that I can listen to back-to-back without getting tired of it. Check it out.

Modest Mouse is pretty standard mainstream indie stuff. If you asked me to name one indie band, Modest Mouse would be it. They have a lot of stuff out there, and I only know a few of their albums, but they're overall pretty awesome. I find this more hit-and-miss than I have the aforementioned albums, but The Moon & Antarctica is pretty classic them.

Bombay Bicycle Club is a British indie group. Their sound has changed pretty drastically in each of their albums, and I adore each one of them. I'm actually surprised I didn't put them on here earlier, because they've all I've been listening to for weeks. They went from a smooth alt sound to very folksy stuff to straight pop and electronicy stuff. It's all awesome. This song gives me chills every time I listen to it without fail.

Incubus does... a lot of stuff. They're more genre encompassing than a lot of stuff I listen to. In my experience with them, you like them or you don't. I do. This song is great. Listen to this song.

Iron & Wine consists of Sam Beam. He was (is?) a professor of film in Florida. But now he makes awesome folk music. I first heard of him when he covered Postal Service's "Such Great Heights", which made it much more moving.I got Kiss Each Other Clean in the same way I got Beard, Wives, Denim. It's awesome. A wonderful mix of folk with some jazzy influence. Check it out.

Jack White is pretty freaking awesome. He's in all sorts of projects and bands and does his own solo stuff. In my opinion, (Dead Weather = Raconteurs) > The White Stripes. Maybe that's just me. But regardless, The Raconteurs are bluesy and folksy and just overall awesome.

This is my driving music. I get really into this shit. If you imagine "Thickfreakness" from The Black Keys and move it from Akron, Ohio to Castille, Spain, you get Guadalupe Plata. Enjoy.

I didn't really start exploring other genres until after my junior year of high school, at which point I was introduced to Kanye and Jay-Z. With Kanye's sampling and beat selection and Jay-Z's free-styling lyrics, they're fantastic. And while their collaborative album, Watch the Throne, isn't spectacular, "Otis" gets stuck in my head regularly.

relient k was my jam in the beginning of my junior high career, when my taste was barely evolving from the country riddled haze that my family left me in. I listened to Two Lefts Don't Make a Right... but Three Do so many times. And while I don't actively listen to them anymore, this album is still historic for my tastes, and I still love this song a lot.

My adoration for classic rock is largely underrepresented in this thread. I don't listen to Eric Clapton nearly as much as I should, but he's fantastic. I've read his autobiography and got a lot more respect for him and people like... Pete Townsend.

I went and saw this band at IU in January, in the middle of an extended snowstorm. The horrid traffic, icy conditions, and back-country roads we took to get there made the show that much more rewarding.
