And a lesser known Offspring single. I have mixed feelings about The Offspring. They're a little too punk for my liking, and they and Green Day are somewhat responsible for the great punk ruination of 1998. But still, some of their songs were very good.
And I say, "How about, breakfast?" to Tiffany.
She said, "I think I could go for some waffles.
As I recall, waffles are the best breakfast."
And I said, "Yeah, well, that's totally true."
I'm going to cheat and post two different version of the same song. This next one is a Cake song. Cake has, for a very long time, been my favorite band. Accordingly, this is one of my favorite songs by them. It's from their first album, released in '94.
Now, we skip forward to 1998 and here's a live version:
I recommend listening to both versions. Cake is a band that expands and improves on their music constantly without being too jammy about it. The differences in the instrumental segment is what really stands out for me. It was vastly improved in the live version. What I like about Cake compared to jam bands is that I can't ever tell if they're making it up on the spot, or if these portions are planned.
Sponge - Plowed. One of the reasons I love 90s rock so much is the guitar work. Note that the guitarist is playing whatever he friggin' wants for half of this song.
Smash Mouth - Padrino. As a sidenote, Smash Mouth is way better live than I ever thought they would be. But they didn't play this song, so they suck live.
