I told Playboy, "no."

( Later that evening, Maxim got in touch with me and asked me to do a non-nude athletic-themed photo set for their magazine. I said yes. :D )

Tell me about the times you had to weigh your personal values against money, LA?

Being lacking of RL experience I'd say the closest to this kind of thing I've gotten were people offering to pay me to do their homework; usually I don't helping with textbook or whatnot (for free), but when it gets to essays and actual assignments then definitely not.

EDIT: Forgot to say, congrats on Maxim! :D

An opportunity for me to take $1000 and discard my values hasn't happened yet.

Sounds like there's an opening at playboy though.

Even as a poor person who would very much like to be not poor, I'm never willing to surrender dignity for money. If I were out on the street and starving, that might be different, but I'd more likely just start stealing a lot if I were in that dire situation. For the most part, I hate money. And I hate how it makes people act like shallow assholes. So I'm usually just content to make enough to "get by."

I apparently walk around with enough authority to be treated with respect by both men and women, so I'd rather not lose that. People seem to understand that I don't have the patience to be messed with. And that I have approximately zero interest in going out of my way to impress others. The respect you get seems to be a reflection of the image you put out there.

I have a lot of moral rules, though fewer than others. They're mostly tied to self-respect.

I don't think there's anything shameful about being a webcam model.

This thread makes me very uncomfortable...

I have my morals. But I'd rather not discuss them here. To say "I would never-" feels a bit too much like implying that I'm better than those who would.

It should be considered, though...

Personal values are not something to be weighed against another person's values... People are just different like that.

I can respect your reply, though, and I don't want you to feel obligated or pressured to participate in this thread. No one is. <3

Edit: I could have worded that better, but I'm not sure how.

I've never been put in a situation which "really" pushed my values, at least not that I'm aware of. In part, that's because I'm really not that conscious of my values anymore: I just do what I feel is the right thing to do...but it's mostly because I can usually see when this kind of situation might arise, and I avoid them. Thusfar I've mostly succeeded.

But people put me in awkward situations a lot.

For instance, I find it really awkward to talk badly about someone behind their back. It's fine to praise someone, but if someone's an ass, let me come to that conclusion myself. Don't pollute my view of someone just because you don't like them, or worse, because you want to spout some gossip.

Now here's the kicker: it can be really hard to tell the difference between gossiping (which is never good) and just saying you don't like someone (which is almost need-to-know if you're going to have a party). It's a fine exercise in hair-splitting, and it would be really impolite of me to call other people out on this kind of thing when I may as well be doing it myself. This is just one of those things that, when people start crossing my line, I either just shut up or excuse myself.

But they do it ALL THE TIME.

I can't say that personal values vs money has ever been something I've heavily weighed. However, there have been plenty of situations where personal values have come in contention against short-term happiness.

Having the opportunity to hang out with fun people, for the sake of having 'friends' or to keep a positive relationship with coworkers off the clock, then distancing myself from them because they were into way too heavy drinking, smoking, indiscriminate sex, etc etc. There just has to be a breaking point where you think that these people aren't in control of their own lives.

When you come from a small town, you don't have a lot of variety in the types of people you can choose to hang out with, but sometimes it's better to have a smaller friend-base than to be stuck thinking "Oh god, I don't ever want to turn into them."

$2000 if I discard of the body as well.

No thanks. Pigs smell.

$1200 was plenty for me.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I am where I am because it got to the point where it was either live in the same old same old comfortable and steady life, or be on my own but keep my morality, integrity and own sense of self intact. Yeah, I would've had more disposable income if I left it alone, but it would've been at the expense of my own peace of mind, and ultimately, one of the people who suddenly decided to start telling me how such a terrible person I was did far too good a job of setting me on the right path to let me accept it.

Money's tighter now, but you know what? Whatever mistakes I make or hardships I face, it's because of me, and not because of anyone else screwing me over. Now what I do I do for my own life and to better myself, because it's what I want and need and feel. Now there's more money back on the otherside, and it would make things a lot easier - but after living through it for the last year and a half before moving on, it's just not worth losing myself for it.

Times like this I start relying on the internet to give me quotes for the things I want to say. I don't judge who says it, I just agree when it's right to do so.

"It isn't always easy, convenient, or politically correct to stand for truth and right, but it is the right thing to do. Always." - M. Russell Ballard

Or, also appropriately,

"It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference." - Tom Brokaw

hey M. Russell Ballard! I remember that talk

Edit: more on topic, I think you made the right decision, I hesitate to even work on Sundays occasionally so I can't say that I have a struggle like that... maybe just on a smaller scale both amount and morality wise

At company parties and stuff I've been given extra money to get a little heavy-handed when pouring drinks. People probably end up paying close to the same in total, but making sure that some of that money goes directly to me helps me remember them, I guess. They get special treatment, for sure. I've never felt bad for it because I know when to responsibly cut people off, how to deal with pushy assholes, and I know the markup for alcohol.

On the flip side, I've been assisting with teaching and leading at my karate club and I've had to hold back on advances of a few physical relationships. It's a bit irritating, but I know it's better for the club.
