Today, Catholics scored a victory against the maniacal hands of the Capitalist tyrants. For too long, the sandwich shop chain, Pret a Manger, had been selling the antithesis of Communion Wafers, a packet of crisps AKA potato chips that upon being consumed, would instantly un-Baptise Catholics. When the Pope found out, he was outraged, and so outraged, his cries of lament were heard across the globe. His salty tears added to the salinity of the ocean, increasing its salinity tenfold. The packet of crisps inspired people to persecute Catholics and about ten thousand were burnt at the stake before a lone voice complained to the sandwich shop, wrested its senior directors to the floor and demanded they remove the product from sale. And he succeeded and many a Catholic rejoiced.

Or... not really.

From the sarcastic tone of my intro, its pretty clear that I thought it was a silly story.

The crisps were called "Virgin Mary" after the drink, but certain people found that it was offensive to Catholics. I wouldn't have minded much, but it wasn't even a high volume of complaints. It was the strength of feeling.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Catholics wouldn't have cared at all. And quite frankly, the cheek of them to say anything about discrimination and mockery, when the incident itself had nothing to do with those things. The most you can accuse the shop of being was thoughtless, but discriminatory and mocking? Seriously?

Quite frankly, I think the incident paints Catholics in a bad light and many will be embarrassed to even hear that some people of their own faith got in such a hissy fit over a bag of crisps.

There were instances in the past where Catholics have faced persecution and discrimination. This is not one of those instances.
