Yeah, this isn't really a very controversial topic. We all know they belong to the British[/trollface]
But I wanted to see what other people's opinions about this happened to be.

My dad was born there.
In general, Britain has controlled it for a long stinking time now. Argentina wants it because, hey, it's right next door, it kinda looks like theirs, and holy cow they're making money off it. You should totally give it to us so we can have that money too. What the actual islanders might want? Irrelevant.

I don't think our media have mentioned the oil drilling lately, because it really is that straightforward.
Our financial situation hardly means we're going to give them up.

All I know is that Eddie Izzard says you need it for strategic sheep purposes.

I was under the impression that Thatcher just felt like shooting something and figured that was a good excuse.
Although my OCD tendencies never approved of Britain's "all-over-the-map" empire. Keep it all sorted together. We don't want our maps looking like they have chicken pox because there's a little bit of British red in every corner of the globe.

I'm normally not a fan of colonization, but from what I've read the vast majority of the residents are of British extraction and there's not an indigenous population. Argentina's claim doesn't seem to have much value to me, especially since the residents appear to be fine with the current situation.

Other way round. Sure, Thatcher needed the opportunity to show she was a strong leader, but the Argentinian military Junta invaded first... because they needed a distraction too.
