I've been meaning to make this thread for quite some time now, so I'm finally getting around to it.

Anyways, with the reveal of the HH and the official timeline, I've noticed that most of the placement issues people pointed out were generally the Capcom games, which have never really had a solid placement in the first place. So I wanted to make a thread discussing the placement of these games. Also, just as a reference for discussions, here's a timeline with the Capcom games removed.

………...WW/PH - ST
……… /
SS - OoT - ALttP/LA - LoZ/AoL
………\
………...MM - TP

Let's start with the easier of the two series, the Oracles. Unlike the FSS, the Oracles have a rather limited number of placement possibilities. There are two main stipulations to the place of OoX, Ganon must be dead and the Triforce must be in Hyrule and the SR. So there placement possibilities look something like this.

………...WW/PH - ST
……… /
SS - OoT - ALttP/[OoX]LA – [OoX] - LoZ/AoL – [OoX]
………\
………...MM – TP – [OoX]

For the longest time on LA, placement after the NES era games was the commonly accepted placement. With the reveal of HH, the official placement was between ALttP and LA. The main issue with this is that Link and Zelda had met in ALttP, whereas in OoX, Zelda did not know who Link was. SOAP suggested the idea that the Triforce could have wiped Zelda’s memory when Link wished away Ganon’s evil, a plausible theory.

However, there is one more thing to be considered. By using the explanation given by HH, in the Decline Era timeline, Link made it to Ganondorf in OoT, meaning that Twinrova would have been killed by Link. This would make any placement on the DT impossible, since Twinrova is the main antagonist of OoX. So by using the explanation of the HH, OoX has to come after TP.

The FSS is a tad more complicated. This is due to a creator quote, stating that TMC was one of the earliest games in the timeline, leading most to place it before OoT, including the HH.

(Assume that FS is with either TMC or FSA, whichever is your preference.)

………..............WW/PH - ST
.............……… /
SS – [TMC] - OoT - ALttP/LA - [FSA] - LoZ/AoL - [FSA]
……..............…\
...........………...MM – TP - [FSA]

Others, myself included, generally ignored this quote to keep the FSS together and placed after OoT

………...WW/PH – ST – [FSS]
……… /
SS - OoT - ALttP/LA – [FSS] LoZ/AoL – [FSS]
………\
………...MM – TP – [FSS]

HH has TMC placed before OoT, with FSA placed after TP, but let’s be honest, we have no real way proving the placement of the FSS. Placement before the NES era games would give us an explanation for how Ganon returned, assuming they don’t make a fourth game to the FSS that would destroy that potential connection. Personally, I like placing all three at the end of the AT. They have no connections with the other games, and with ST having founded a country named Hyrule, there’s no reason why they couldn’t have been placed there.

So what are your thoughts on the Capcom games?

If I didn't know better, I'd say that Nintendo didn't know where the Capcom games went themselves until they decided to make HH and they decided to make a timeline for the classics based on the fan timelines since they really didn't seem to fit with the newer games. Then again, the FSS really don't fit well anywhere. The only thing that could've kept the FSS out of the AT is Ganon's presence in FSA (which is not a Capcom game), but then SS came along. It's amazing to see how the timeline makes more sense without those games in it. Now all we need is an in-universe explanation for the third split, and we're good. Their explanation for it fails on so many levels.

I have officially become one of those stubborn people who reject the canon timeline.

Because the canon timeline is unbearably stupid.

Still, one problem with your reasoning is that...why couldn't Twinrova have reincarnated or something after OOT? Everyone else and their mother gets to do it. Maybe she raised LOZ Ganon this time around.

@Ganonlord
I always thought FSA was made by Capcom as well, since TMC and FS were, apparently not. Oh well, it's still apart of the FSS.

Anyways, we know that FSA's Ganon is not the same Ganon from OoT (and ALttP/WW/TP), so I don't see the issue there. The original Ganon dies in all three timelines, so we can assume that he reincarnates in FSA (and LoZ), similar to how Link and Zelda always seem to come back.

Also, we have a thread discussing the third split, if you care to share your input there.

@MPS
So are dual splitters going to be the next linearists? :P

Anyways, I did consider Twinrova possibly being revived, but considering that she was still alive on the CT, it just made more sense to follow that route instead of having to add in speculation to fit her elsewhere.

I have a theory about that. I bump the point of deviation from the final battle to Link pulling the Master Sword for the first time. Essentially, I imagine what if no seven year sleep or time travel aws involved and Link attempts to confront Ganondorf while still a child, Master Sword in tow. This explains why Link is bested in the DT, how Twinrova are alive (because Link never faces them, he goes straight for Ganon), and other thinsg like the fact that the whole seven yaer sleep thing was conveniently set up for OoT Link as if it aws anticipated despite TWW Link, who is also a child, not having to go through the same thing. What if the DT was an original timeline where none of those preparations where prepared and the final battle with Ganon occurs seven years sooner? And what if after the fact, Zelda uses time travel to as a last ditch effort to create a Hyrule where Link stands a fighting chance, much in the same way she uses time travel to give Link back his lost childhood.
