Wow, nice work; that looks awesome.

Also, for those of you that have been following the translations of the timeline section, apologies for taking so long with the translation of the remaining sidebars. I think we'll be able to have the last of them up later today, though. The FSA pages are very interesting. Here's a a small teaser, which will soon be updated to GlitterBerri's page. It's from page 119 (credit goes to GlitterBerri for helping me with these):

The Pyramid
A demonic tool created from darkness sleeps within this pyramid from which no one returns alive.
It is located beside a stone monument with an inscription that reads "claim this if your soul cries out for destruction and conquest".

The Mirror of Darkness
This mirror reflects the evil heart of its user, birthing demons. Imprisoning the creatures of darkness that once attacked Hyrule, it was hidden within a temple to deprive it of any connection with the Dark World.
Its relation to the magical mirrors that exist in other branches of the timeline, such as the Mirror of Twilight that connects to the Twilight Realm, is unclear.

Wind Sorcerer Vaati

The Princess Zelda and Link of the era used the Four Sword to seal Vaati in the Four Sword Shrine, which couldn't be seen by grown-ups. Even after the sealing, the Four Sword Shrine continued to be watched over by the young Princess Zelda and the maidens.

Shadow Link
Created from the Mirror of Darkness, this demon is a spitting image of Link and wields a dark power. The thoughts and resentment of the previous Ganondorf traversed time and space and were born anew in the form of Link. What appeared in the Four Sword Shrine was a trap sent by Ganondorf in order to break the seal.

Lol, wait what? That seems a bit contradictory. They mention the Mirror of Darkness reflecting the evil inside people, then says that Dark Link is the last Ganondorf for...some reason?

That's just fanfiction.

Well, the section about the mirror doesn't really say that there's only one way for it to give birth to demons. Perhaps it was just a medium used by Ganondorf's fury to manifest itself into a physical form? That would explain why it could create a demon of the shape of someone who had never been near it.

It sounds to me like it's implying that when Ganondorf used the Mirror, it channeled his hatred of Link from his previous life in TP. I guess because the new Ganondorf didn't remember his previous life?

That sounds way too complicated and out of the blue. I guess it works though, but it's really out there.

yeah. i actually think it's a cool piece of lore, but like mps said, it's pretty much [official] fan fiction. it's doesn't really have any support by the game itself.

Yeah, it sounds interesting but to me it seemed like both a desperate tie between the previous Ganondorf from TP and the events of FSA (as if Ganondorf's reincarnation wasn't enough) and an half-baked explanation for how Shadow LInk came to be despite Link never coming upon the Mirror of Darkness until after the fact. It's a rather weak connection but it's interesting. Ultimately, I'm wondering why it was put in there at all. They could have said Shadow Link was based off Link's dark side conjured up via the mirror since everyone has one and that's all I thought he was.

While we're talking about this, I just want to bring up that while I was trying to work out the fate of Vaati in the "middle" timeline, I imagined that the Four Sword Palace in LTTP is being guarded by Vaati-split-into-four-Dark-Links.

Ah, is this what they call karma...? *collapses*

Thanks for all your hard work, Snow. And thanks to anyone else who helped with the translations, I don't know if they come around here. :P

Anyway, this Shadow Link thing is just...what. I noticed the book also contradicts TWW's statement about when Laruto and Fado were killed, along with the contradiction of TP I mentioned previously. I wouldn't care that much, but some people seem to be taking this book with more importance than the games themselves, so I find it a little annoying there are errors like that in what's supposed to be a comprehensive source. Still great it's all been translated now, though, and I love seeing all the concept art for various games. Certain stuff I really wish had been used, like Oracle Series Ganondorf. Would've been fun to see a 2D version of human Ganondorf.

Oracle Series Ganonondorf? Where's that at?

As for Hyrule Historia, I think the book pretty much summed it up best for itself: Basically this is just a collection of what the creators but it's up to the ans to make up their own minds. I'd say it's canon but it's not hard canon that fans must accept, just supplemental information to fill in holes where hard canon (stuff actually in the games) aren't enough.

I take it as canon as well, I'm just saying I wish there weren't the contradictions there are and maybe a little more elaboration on stuff like this Shadow Link thing that the book itself really introduces, concept-wise.

As for the human Ganondorf I'm talking about: http://i43.tinypic.com/30my1j4.png

Snow posted this earlier in the thread. Kinda fun seeing Ganondorf in the Oracles style, woulda liked to see him somehow in the game.

Holy F... and here I thought it was impossible for Ganondorf to have even less of neck than before. Looks like he may have figured into the third oracle game which might've taken place back in Hyrule. I'm totally pulling that outta nowhere but it makes sense to me.

That's because both are roundhouses. It didn't really stick out to me since I would had expected such a structure in an area dealing heavily things running on railroad tracks.

Hey could you possibly translate page 91? I'm also trying to make an english scan but GlitterBerri's translation doesn't seem to fit properly, specifically the part just above the bottom bar which the japanese appears to be a story or poem given from the "fin" at the end. If you could translate this page that would be awesome. Thanks

It appears that each subsection in the timeline part of Hyrule Historia is concluded with a small Epilogue which ends with "Fin". Patas, the person who translated page 91, seems to have gone with a translation that looks better through text, since a more strict interpretation wouldn't have made as much sense without having the actual page at hand. The text is accurate though, here's my take on it:

Thus continues the cyclic story of reincarnations stemming from the ancient battle.
The precesence of the time travelling Hero caused a fork in history, dividing the chronology of Hyrule.

"The Legend of the Gods and the Hero of Time" Fin

The History spun in the Child Era which Link the Hero of Time returned to. (Please turn to page 110)

The history spun in the Adult Era which Link, the Hero of Time left. (Please turn to page 122)

As you can see, most of the changes Patas did were made to make it look better through text only.

I hope that answers your question. If there's anything else you need, please feel free to ask.

I'm glad you enjoy it.

And that reminds me, GlitterBerri has recently begun putting up pictures and translations of Hyrule Historia's artwork section as well. The entire section hasn't been covered yet, but it'll be updated regularly as we get more of it done. You can find what we've covered so far here.
