Since I have just received the new Hyrule Historia book I've decided to scan pages of the book upon request. If anyone is interested in any part of the book, please feel free to request a scan. I'll also try to translate some of the text, but since my knowledge in Japanese is very limited, I'd be happy to receive any help I can get.

EDIT: Here is the full timeline section:

Here's a rudimentary translation of the first page of the "Downfall of Hyrule" section. It's probably not fully accurate, but it should give the idea of what's going on:

(Title)Downfall of Hyrule
The defeat of the Hero.

(Header)The Hero of Time is defeated by Ganondorf.
Ganondorf claims the Triforce and become the Demon King (Maou) Ganon who threatens the world.
The Kingdom of Hyrule shrinks as a result of many battles surrounding the Triforce and the diminishing of the blood of God [Hylian race].

(Sidetext) Hero of Time Era(Adult Era)
Ocarina of Time

Evil King Ganondorf gets the 3 Triforce pieces.

The defeat of Link, the Hero of Time

The thief Ganondorf steals the Triforce of Power and kidnaps Zelda.
Link, the Hero of Time, challenges him for the fate of Hyrule, but loses.

(Caption) Link versus Ganondorf

The Seven Sages seal away Ganon

Ganondorf takes the Triforce of Wisdom that dwells in Zelda and the Triforce of Courage that dwells in Link. With the true power [of the Triforce] he becomes the Demon King (Maou) Ganon. As a last resort, Zelda and the seven sages seal Ganondorf away into the Sacred Realm.

(Note to FDL: I scanned the only page that seemed relevant to Ganondorf losing the ToP, but if you'd like me to scan the rest of the ages as well, please tell me. Also, the caption in the top right corner basically only says that Ganondorf loses the Triforce of Power at the end, but the rest of the page may elaborate on that a bit further.)

Oh, and the scans of the Four Swords pages are pretty bad because I experimented using lower resolutions. If anyone wants me to redo them, please tell me.

Well the only other "pressing" question I'd have about Twilight Princess would be the stuff about the Hero's Spirit and the Hero bloodline and all that, but that appears to be covered on this page as well so there's no need to scan the rest at this point. I'm sure eventually between you and the people at History of Hyrule most of the book will be scanned. Thanks a lot.

Again, if it's too much trouble don't bother, but I think another part that might especially earn a scan would be the pages detailing the end of Skyward Sword and the events that took place between it and TMC. It might explain exactly how the ending worked in SS, and explain some of the overall history of Hyrule and the Sacred Realm/Triforce. Really appreciate your sharing all this with us.

There is no single single section dedicated to the transition between them, but the FSA section might say something. I'll scan it later.

Sure thing; I'm interested in that too. There's one page that seems to talk about the ancient sages, the Temple of Time and the crest of Hyrule. I'm unfortunately unable to scan anything today, but I'll put up anything that seems relevant tomorrow.

Oh, and I haven't fully translated the Four Sword pages yet, but from what I've seen so far, FS does take place long after MC, featuring a different Link and Zelda. I'll have a full translation up in a few hours.

Here's a translation of the first page of the Four Sword section. Like before, it's not a fully accurate translation, but the fact that Four Swords happen long after Minish Cap is fairly evident.

(Title to the left [denotes current era]) Force Era
(Subtitle to the left [denotes relevant games]) Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures [Note: this section elaborates on the Four Sword backstory seen in the intro of FS and FSA. In other words, this event is an event separate from the events of The Minish Cap]

(Title) The Unsealing of Sorcerer Vaati

Peace returned briefly to Hyrule as Vaati was presumed killed, but he suddenly returned and terrorized the land once more. Vaati kidnapped many beautiful maidens and brought them to the Wind Palace in the sky that he occupies. At this moment, a hero wielding the legendary sword appeared. Using the sword, he split his body in four to defeat Vaati and seal him away with the Four Sword in the Elemental Sanctuary.

(Caption) The Seal of the Four Sword

(Right side column) Wind Sorcerer Vaati
No longer remembering his days as a Picori, he goes on a rampage. Manipulating the wind, he names himself The Great Wind Sorcerer Vaati and lives in the Wind Palace.

(Right side column) Hero of the Four Sword
Not much is known about this person. He appears to be a descendant of the Link who defeated Vaati [Minish Cap Link].

(Subtitle to the left) Four Swords
(Subtitle) The Return of Wind Sorcerer Vaati
For generations the seal of the Four Sword has been managed by Princess Zelda [and her descendants], but one day the seal weakens. Zelda comes to check up on the seal, but is kidnapped by Vaati and taken away to the Palace of Winds.

(Subtitle) The Cloning Power of the Four Sword
The young boy Link witnesses the revival of Vaati. After being instructed to do so by fairies, Link takes the Four Sword and is divided into four as the legend said. The Great Fairies can help him get to the Palace of Winds, but Link must first kill monsters and collect Rupees to prove to them that he's courageous enough for it.

(Caption) Princess Zelda

(Caption) Four Links

(Right side column) The Kidnapping of Princess Zelda
This time, Wind Sorcerer Vaati kidnaps Zelda because he wants a bride to commemorate his return, not because of the Light Force.

"This time, Wind Sorcerer Vaati kidnaps Zelda because he wants a bride to commemorate his return, not because of the Light Force."

That's... a little bizarre, right? Even if the Light Force isn't mentioned in FS, you'd think it could still be both of those reasons.

Hello, Snow. I came here to say thank you for these scans. I've been working on translations from these pages you've provided over at the Zelda Informer forums. Here's the link, if you wish to compare notes (or feel free to use my translations if you wish) : http://forums.zeldai...nslations.8624/

Thank you! I hope you can continue provide more scans.

Thanks a lot for the help, ShiKage; those translations are great. Translating is a rather long and difficult process for me, so I'm happy to receive any help I can get. Are there any parts of the books you'd be interested in translating? If so, please tell me.

And regarding Vaati's change in motive, I agree with Hana. The poor guy basically lost his mind and memory after having been sealed up for all those years.

Here's the net batch of scans requested. I will have more up soon:

Sure thing, I'll put up the first few pages later and add more gradually.

By the way, which sections are you translating now? I'm currently translating the IW story (translation will be done soon) and a person on GameFAQs said that he'll take care of the SS, Sky Era and MC pages that I've uploaded. Perhaps it'd be a good idea to coordinate our translations to get it done as quickly as possible.

Translation of the Imprisoning War page (page 93). It's surprisingly similar to ALttP's original telling, even though there evidently are quite a few discrepancies:

(Title to the side)Many years later

(Subtitle to the side) A Link to the Past

(Title) The Imprisoning War

[After Ganondorf had been sealed away] Hyrule Kingdom finally experienced a short-lived peace. However, knowledge of the Sacred Realm and the Triforce spread across Hyrule, and many greedy people searched for it in order to claim its power. But the Sacred Realm had become the Dark World under Ganondorf's control, and those who ventured there never returned. Instead, only evil came out of the entrance.

(Caption) People fighting over the Sacred Realm

(Title) The Sages Seal the Sacred Realm

The King of Hyrule ordered the seven sages to seal the entrance to the Sacred Realm. As the sages prepared their spell, the Knight Family protected them from the demons that came gushing out of the entrance. In the intense battle, most of the Knights perished; however, the sages completed the spell and the entrance to the sacred realm was once again closed.

(Caption) The Seal of the Seven Sages

(Right side column) The Knight Family
Bearing the crest of courage, these brave descendants of the hero protect the royal family. Legends say that the hero will emerge from the Knight Family. They may be related to Link of the Hero of Time Era, whose mother died during the war of that era.

(Bottom text) The Decline of the Hylian Lineage

In the Hero of Time Era, the most people in Hyrule were related to Goddess Hylia. Hylians had magic powers and long ears who supposedly could hear the voices of the Gods. However, after the Imprisoning War, the blood of the Hylians was greatly diminished compared to how it was in the past. And like the sages, even Hyrule Kingdom became a mere legend of old.

(Caption) Zelda, descendant of Goddess Hylia

Today, I did the Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, Link's Awakening, Four Swords Adventures and Spirit Tracks images you uploaded. lol

Oh, heh. Which ones are you planning on doing next?

Remember, he doesn't remember he was ever a Picori, either, and he was kidnapping maidens who WEREN'T Zelda, too. The implication is that he doesn't remember what he wanted, but seems to have an urge to kidnap women without knowing why.

It says the Knights are descendants of the hero? Does that imply that the Hero of Time did survive his defeat against Ganondorf? I'm not sure if it's supposed to be implying the knights were aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Hero of Time or his kids or whatever.

I'm really not sure about that paragraph, to be honest. It does seem to say that they're descendants of a hero, but maybe they're just heroic descendants (but that would beg the question of who they descended from). However, since it also seems to say that they may have a connection to OoT Link's mother, I assume that they're distant relatives of his. The Hero of Time was definitely killed by Ganondorf in their last battle though, I can tell you that much.

Ah, well, it's still cool that, even if it tries to be vague about it, it sort of sheds light on the family of at least the Hero of Time and the Links of ALttP and TP. I mean, judging from some of the translations put up on ZU, it seems that the Hero of Time/Hero's Shade and the Link of TP are related, which would mean the Knights of Hyrule are related to the Links on at least two of the branches of the timeline.

After SS, I kinda feel like the Knights of Hyrule are descendants of the Skyloft Knights, which makes them realted to SS Link, which makes them related to the Hero of Time anyways.

Also, FamliarStranger from the Skyward Sword forum on GameFAQs have helped me translate the sidenotes of the "Sky Era, Era of Chaos, Era of Prosperity" page (page 77). The translation contains some fairly interesting information:

Temple of Time
The only entrance to the Temple of Light in the Sacred Realm. Though it bears the same name as the temple that stood in the desert in ancient times, the Temple of Time constructed by Rauru is thought to be located where the Sealed Temple once stood.

(caption) Temple of Time

Royal Family's Crest
Because Goddess Hylia's crest was in the shape of a bird, and people once rode giant birds in Skyloft, the Royal Family's crest is a combination of the Triforce and a bird.

To ShiKage: FamliarStranger said that he'd be interested in translating some of the pages of the early History of Hyrule that I just uploaded, so feel free to skip some of those if you want. He already translated the creation history on page 70, so you can definitely skip that:

The Legend of the Gods and the Hero of Time
This world was created by three Goddesses.
The Goddesses did not rule this world, but rather left its fate up to the land, the order, and the life that they created.
Leaving behind the omnipotent Triforce...

(vertical text on the left) Creation Era
(vertical text on the left) A Link to the Past / Ocarina of Time etc.

World Creation

Creation of the World by the Goddesses of Creation.

When there was nothing but chaos in the universe, the world was created by three Goddesses. The Goddess of Power Din created the land, The Goddess of Wisdom Nayru created order, and the Goddess of Courage Farore created all living creatures.
When the Goddesses of Creation left the world, they left the Triforce, a sacred golden triangle representing their powers. It is an omnipotent relic that grants the wishes of those who touch it.

(caption) World Creation
(caption) Three Great Goddesses
(caption) Triforce

Triforce, Relic of the Gods
Goddess Hylia was tasked with watching over the new world and the Triforce. It is not known why the Goddesses left the Triforce in this world.

The Omnipotent Triforce
A Sacred Triangle that grants the wish of those who touch it. The Triforce does not distinguish between good and evil, and therefore grants both good and evil wishes.
Using it correctly requires a strong heart and inherent ability, as well as balance between power, wisdom and courage. If touched by one without this balance, it splits into three peices, the Triforce of Power, Wisdom, and Courage. The one who touched it is left with only the one he most strongly believes in, while the other two appear on the back of the hands of two others chosen by the Gods. To obtain its true power, the two missing pieces of the Triforce must be acquired.

(left column) The Three Goddesses
Goddesses of Creation who control power, wisdom, and courage. Din, Nayru, and Farore each have a crest that represents them, which can be found in places related to them.

And finally, here are scans of the Ocarina of Time section (and some unrelated artwork scans). With these, the entire timeline up until the split has been scanned. I'll have the rest of the timeline up by tomorrow.

EDIT:

After looking through the text about the Knight Family, I think that it's supposed to imply that the knights descended from the Castle Guards of the OoT era and that the Hero of Time may be related to them because of that [in other words, it's suggested that OoT Link's father may have been a Castle Guard].

Also, here are a few minor translations that I forgot to post:

ALttP Section (Page 97; I have yet to scan this page, but I'll put it up tomorrow)

(Title)The Battle of the Pyramid
The trident wielding beast-like Ganon attacked with dark magic, but Link dismantled his dark powers and destroyed him. Link touched the Triforce and wished for the world to return to its original, peaceful state. Both Link's uncle and the late king came back to life.
The Triforce was now once again back in the hands of the royal family, and the evil that emerged from Ganon's Dark World was slowly wearing off.

(Caption) The battle against Ganon

(Title) Dark World (Other world)
Once known as the Sacred Realm, this resting grounds for the Triforce turn into a dark and evil place under Ganondorf's control. It can be seen as a mirror of the Light World.

Oracles Section (Page 98; right side column)

Twinrova
The foster mothers of Ganon, once known as the thief Ganondorf. Ganondorf became Demon King Ganon and Twinrova are now trying to revive him.

In other words, Twinrova in OoX is the same as OoT's Twinrova. I have no idea how they return from the dead, but I suppose it's not too different from Ganondorf's revival between LA and LoZ.

Nice compilation, GlitterBerri!

Pg. 87: So, it's official that Kaepora Gaebora is Rauru. I like it, since Rauru was the only sage not involved in Link's childhood adventures. I'd guess Gaepora in Skyward Sword, who looked like Rauru, is a previous incarnation.

I'm slowly going to be working on making full "scanlations" of the Hyrule Historia timeline section as we get more and more translated. I've been building my template and wanted to hear some opinions on the layout, font size, readability, etc. Let me know what you think and if there is anything that looks like it needs to be tweaked. Thanks for your critique!

EDIT: See my post below for updated version with full two page spread.

Looks good! The caption "Link carrying the Hero's Crest" needs fixing up though!
