I've been playing Ocarina of Time recently, and something weird came to mind. I'm not sure why I never realized it before.

So Ganon's plan for the first act was to let Link do all the work in gathering the Spiritual Stones and open up the Sacred Realm by drawing the Master Sword. As far as we can tell, he's hiding somewhere in the Temple of Time watching Link. That's all well and good, but then the time travel comes into play. Presumably, Link goes back in time to just before he drew the Master Sword. If that's the case, think about Ganon's feelings. He's hanging out waiting for this stupid little kid to open the gates to the Sacred Realm (aka fulfill Ganon's lifelong dream). The kid finally gets around to it, runs up to the sword, grabs the hilt...then runs off to kill spiders or something. Then he comes back, but leaves again at the last second. Over and over and over.

No wonder Ganon's so bitter.

Well, technically, Link is lifting the sword and setting it immediately back down. Either way, though.

And that's why we have the Game Over timeline. Kid Link did that ONE TOO MANY TIMES.

I doubt that Ganondorf was actually IN the Temple of Time at the moment Link drew the sword. He just had to come back later, after chasing Zelda off.

Though, the image of Ganondorf watching Link draw the sword only to be disappointed is prety funny.

"Ah ha! He has drawn the sword! The gate to the Sacred Realm is open, and soon the triforce shall be in my... oh, he's... putting it down again? Must have got cold feet..."

"He's back! This time, all Hyrule shall tremble before me as oh no, wait, he's dropped it again."

"Now! Now is my moment! Now... Oh, come on! Fine, fine. More skulking in the shadows."

"Yes, he's going for the sword... He's drawn it! He's... dangit! Just let the gateway open!"

"Okay, not going to get my hopes up this time, and nope, there he goes again. He must know what I'm planning. He must do."

"He's drawn the sword! Now is my chance to kill him before he puts it down again."

And then the Seal War begins.

There is also the possibility that Link returns a moment after he drew the MS and Ganondorf entered the SR (I'm not referring to the last journey that caused the split). That would explain why Link draws the sword again: Ganon already has the ToP and Link obviously has to take the MS, otherwise he won't be able to defeat him.
