PART III – Background

Following the destruction of the Voldermort at the end of Deathly Hallows the world of Harry Potter has gone into a sense of peace. At the destruction of Voldermort many of the death eaters were locked up securely in various wizarding prisons. The people of the world felt safe again, due to in increase of security and safety charms how could anyone attempt to rise to power?

Hogwarts was experiancing an increase of students. Peace often meant prosperity and while a 19 years ago some parents maybe have wanted to home school their childen now many wanted to send their students off the school to learn from the best. You can expect some 20 years later that the teachers of Hogwarts had retired. The only familiar face to any of the parents would be Nevile Longbottom who now teaches Herbology. The students on the other hand could be very familiar. This is officially the next generation a clean world ready for the next evil upbringing. A world where many people have gone on trusting that that this peace would be eternal.

As a side note, this is a more in depth plot line involved that has yet to be introduced ;) Your participation in it is all on your own, feel free to do your own thing

Part IV- It begins

It was a bright and shining day or at least that is how it felt for Jessi. Today was her official first day of school and she could never be so proud. It was over a week ago that she had packed up her bags and picked out her first day outfit. As 5am rolled around she was up and around having more energy then she had known in years. This was her first time ever being away from her mother for more then three hours and she was a bit nervous but also a bit excited.

The whole morning had gone as planned. Her mother, brothers, and herself made the journey to the train station. Jessi said her very tearfelt goodbye and climbed aboard the train. Jessi had planned to be one of the first people at the train station and had pretty much achieved it. As she stepped into the opening of the train her eyes went wide in fear as she eye balled the other students aboard the train. Even though Jessi had been quite sheltered she had met a few kids her own age. Social situation had always made her a little nervous. Thanks to her Mom she had never had any friends and had gathered no real social skills. She looked around nervously wishing that she still had her security blanket of a mother.

"umm." She muttered as she nervously brushed her brown hair behind her ear. A few students looked up at her. The students aboard were a couple years older then her so they really saw nothing but fresh first years. She squinted as she looked at the uniforms of various colors. She had done some of her research and recognized the different dorms. Jessi herself was wearing the first year robes of an unsorted student so she somewhat stuck out like a sore thumb. She hung her head down and headed to an empty row of seat opting to not sit in one of the more private booths.

"Well her goes nothing." She thought as she rested her head on her chin at looked out the window. This was her first time being alone for more then three hours from her mother. Here she was going to be living for months at a time. She had to learn to be indepedent but yet work in a group. She watched as other students trinkled in wondering nothing more then if they would like her and be in her dorm.

-------

Colton Cleavley didn't mind if he was late or not. It as his first day attending Hogwarts as well so he was therefore being treated as a first year himself. He already knew he was going to be popular here he was popular everywhere. If he went anywhere with a social grouping he was never alone for long. He ducked in as he went into the Hogwarts express. He could instantly feel the eyes rush over to him. He grinned a cocky smile and nodded at a couple ladies.

He knew he stuck out as a sore thumb, he appeared more like a 6th year but he was dressed like a first year. Transfer students were becoming a little more common though over the years. Home schooling back during the time of Voldermort's era was pretty common. Many parents at that time were afraid to send their children away to a boarding school. But during this time home schooling had become a rarity. Colton though was not a homeschool transfer but a transfer from another school. He preferred to not disclose the schools name nor his reason for transferring. He was however legendary at the school.

"Hi." He said as he sat down next to a beautiful red headed student. The girl instantly turned red and turned her face away to giggle nervously.

"Gryffindor I presume." He said pointing down to her uniform. She nodded nervously and looked over at her friends who were also wearing the same colors.

"umm." the girl started her eyes constantly darting back and forth to her friends. "Are you." She gulped trying to pick up her courage. "A first year." She said in a quiet voice. She felt embarassed to be asking him what she felt was somewhat of a private question. He chuckled a little loving the attention.

"No, I am a transfer student." He said with ease. "So I have yet to be sorted, but I guess in a way I am a first year. My grades though are placing me in as a fourth year." He said to fully answer her question.

"Oh." She answered. "I hope you get put in my house we can use my boys like you." She said and blushed a deep crimson colour. He grinned wildly at her.

"Oh boys like me? I am sure you have plenty of boys in your house." He said enjoying that he was making her blush so deeply.

"I mean." She started but stopped mid sentence not sure how to continue. He chuckled in response.

"I am Colton." He said sticking out his hand. "I guess it was rude of me not to properly introduce myself." He finished.

"Gabrielle." She responded.

"And I hope I get placed in your house as well." He said and offered not much of a continuation of the conversation.

Name: Professor Casey Castleton.

Age: 24

Profession: Teacher (Transfiguration)

Bio: A new teacher to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Casey looks to make a name for himself at the school, hoping to leave the past that he never had behind him in a place that never was.

---

The office, his office, he didn't know how to decorate it. Casey remembered that when he was here as a student, this office was decorated to the taste of the professor, and it was lovely and tasteful, and he loved coming into the office and seeing what Minerva was keeping in here. He would never have called that to her face whilst he was a student, but since he grew up, she demanded nothing less of him, and as he was now in her old position, he had to refer to himself as the transfigurations professor. This position had been filled and vacated quite a bit since Minerva had left office, and Casey was hoping to be the one to hold onto it for a little while. When the head master offered it to him, he jumped at the opportunity to teach here.

He had it figured out now. He would start with a Portrait of his hero, Sir Petronius Longhornboggle, knight of the old realm, and then the room would take shape around him.

He couldn't wait until the students arrived, he wanted to try turning one of them into a tea pot.

Spoiler

Hotaru spoke quietly with her sister, as her school trunk and owl were loaded onto the train. This was an exciting day for her, but she knew she would miss her sister, and thus wanted to spend as much time with her as possible before she boarded the train. Hotaru couldn't hide her nervousness, and it made her sister laugh.

"You will do fine, don't worry." Said her sister.

Hotaru gave a faint smile, and hugged her sister. Then said, "I will miss you!"

"Just be sure to write to me as soon as you can." Replied her sister, hugging back.

Nodding, Hotaru said, "I will!" Then after one last quick hug, she got on the train.

She looked around at all the students already seated. Most of the students on this car, were older, and already sorted into one of the four houses. As her eyes roamed, it made her wonder what house she would be placed in. She realized she was blocking the door, and quickly moved to the first empty seat she found. After getting situated, she noticed she was sitting across from another girl, a first year like herself. She watched the girl looking out the window, wondering.

"Hi," She said after an unsure moment. "I'm Hotaru."

Shirt half tucked in, and a robe hanging loosely off his left shoulder, Lucas Sheridan certainly held the look of a slacker. Waking up later than planned did not help matters either.

Mr. Cyril Sheridan was attempting to get Lucas' tie on right as his son checked himself over, feeling in his pockets for his wallet, wand, etc. After securing the black and yellow Hufflepuff's tie, Cyril took a brief look over Lucas, frowning a bit at his son's discordant state.

“Well, I can't be expecting you to look perfect coming out of bed,” Cyril sighed, “Just try to get yourself more respectable on the ride there.”

There was a small pause, filled by the sounds of students and their parents bustling about Platform 9 ¾ , before Lucas replied.

“Don't worry dad, I will.”

“Ah, before I forget,” Cyril started, pulling out a brown paper wrapped package from his messenger bag and handing it off to Lucas, “An early birthday present. Your mother and I figured you might find it useful.”

Lucas began hefting the package in his hands, telling from the feeling of the thing that it was a large book of sorts. He was starting to undo the twine around it, but there was time to do little else though, as the train's whistle blew. Cyril cursed a little under his breath, wishing he would have at least had the chance to see Lucas' reaction, but time was not on his side.

“Well, make sure to send a letter home, let us know what you think of it.”

Lucas had already started toward the train, package tucked under his arm. When he finally reached the door, he quickly turned and shouted “I will,” before climbing aboard.

-~-~-

Lucas took a look down the train, spying into a some of the private compartments to see if he might find a place to sit and tidy himself up, maybe unwrap his present, but it looked like they were all occupied. Pulling at his robe to drape over both shoulders, Lucas looked for a good spot to sit. His eyes soon gravitated towards a rather tall student with no house colors on his uniform. A transfer student then? Certainly a rare occurrence, especially with someone who looked as old as he did.

Giving the situation some thought, Lucas finally walked up.

“Hello there,” Lucas spoke, offering a handshake,”You look like a new face.”

OCC: A teacher is fine the only one that would be hard to play would be the Herbology professor since that HAS to be Neville Longbottom. JK Rowling stated he worked there at this time so he has to remain. Sorry also for the delayed responses. I had been keeping an eye on the thread but apparently not to well xD

IC: Jessi's eyes darted quickly over to her side. She had been so intently looking out the window she hadn't even sensed somebody sitting down next to her. She let out a little gasp and nervously thrusted her hands into her lap.

"Umm Hi." She said and twiddled her thumbs a little nervously. She really had no idea how to talk to other people. You would think at her young age that it would be in general that she had problems talking to but in her case it was all people. She had no friends growing up other then her mother. While most children who at the age of 4 or so started going on play dates with other kids her age she was at home being schooled by her mother on shapes, colors, and other things. The only real woman she ever did talk to was her mother.

She gasped again as she felt the train start up and start to lurch forward. "I am Jesserien" she said and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. She stared at the girl unsure how this dialogue continues. She started to make up topics in her head of things she could talk about. She had to make this work she just had to!

-----

Colton's eyes shifted away from the ladies he ad been talking to and let his eyes wander over to the guy addressing him. "Hufflepuff" He thought to himself. He had done a little research before enrolling on the different houses and what sort of people they "produced," Hufflepuff's seemed to be the more social and 'nicer' students. It was just in this guys nature to be friendly.

"colton." he said and offered out his hand. "Colton Cleavely." He continued.

"I am a new face, I am a transfer student from Durmstrang Institute for Magical Learning." he said as a matter of fact in order to solve the kids curiosity. When he had first entered the train he knew he was going to have many questions about his age and being a transfer student. he couldn't really expect the students to NOT be curious about him.

"I figured it was about time I stopped commuting to a school that was so far away." He said in case the boy was curious why Colton was choosing to go to Hogwarts now so late in his schooling.

"So tell me besides the schooling what is your favorite thing about this place." He said winking. He might as well take this time to get a little dish about the school before entering.

Name: Professor James Lancaster
Age: Unknown
Appearance:

Height - 5'9"
Weight - 200
Hair - Brown
Eyes - Blue
Build - Muscular (Build of a Quidditch Beater)
Wand: Elk Wood with a Phoenix core
Small Bio:

James attended Hogwarts during the area of Voldemort's Return. He was a friend of the famous Hermione Granger. They both attended the advanced classes. Hermione was indeed smart but he was smarter, though he would never tell that to her face, well because he valued his life. James was underestimated while he attended school. He was one of the smartest in his class and also extremely athletic. He played as the beater for the Ravenclaw team for all years of his stay at Hogwarts. He held a small grudge against his peers for this. He did not have many friends so when he returned to Hogwarts he had no real feelings of joy just a sense of realization. He knew he wasnt much for being a teacher but the headmaster has personally asked him to come to the school and teach Defense of the Dark Arts.

OoC: Im not much of an Rper but i wish to better my skills and i love Harry Potter. So lets see what i can do.

IC:

James just had just left the Headmasters Office and was heading to his new office and classroom. In school, Defense Against the Dark Arts was his favorite subject. Whether it had been the crazy array of professors he came across in his time or because he was always one to defend others. He recalls a time when the old school bullies Crab and Goyle were beating up this first year. He reacted instinctively and used the Levitation Charm and made them fly through the halls until he dropped them down the stairs that led to the Slytherin Common Room. He chuckled as he walked into his new classroom. It was familiar but different. He was now in control of this classroom and no longer a student. He would control what the students learned and he was responsible for making sure that students understood the dangers of the Dark Arts. Now obviously everyone is at a great peace because Voldemort no longer exists but James knows the Dark Arts and knows that the powers that the Dark Lord unleashed upon the world are still out there and he was to make sure that these students or these students children stood a chance. James was thinking of all of this as he stood in the middle of the classroom. He walked to the door he knew to be his new office. He enters and it looks completely different from he had visited Professor Lupin many times in his one year teaching at Hogwarts. He always enjoyed Professors Lupin's company and his office. He felt like he truly had made a friend. He was very sad when he found out Professor Lupin was leaving but the friendship gave him his goals in life to learn all he could about the Dark Arts. As James walks over to the chair he remembers Lupin always sitting there giving him advice on places to visit and ways to allure himself from indulging to much into the Dark Arts. James leans back in his chair and drifts into memories of his days as a student at Hogwarts.

Hotaru giggled slightly. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." She said, in response to the girl's gasp. Then with a sad smile, she looked out the window as the train began to pull away from the station. Her stomach was in knots of mixed emotion. Excited for school, worried she wouldn't fit in, sad that she would be away from her sister for so long.

She shook her head to clear it, and turned her attention back to the girl she had sat across from. "Hi, Jesserien," She said, then added; "Are you excited to be going to Hogwarts? What house do you hope to be in? Will you go out for Quidditch?" Her eyes went wide and she blushed, realizing she had just blurt everything out all at once...

She gave a weak smile, and then looked at the window once more. Clearly embarrassed.

ooc: For the sake of completeness, here is the link to my character bio - Lucas L. Sheridan

ic:

Lucas' expression was somewhat blank at first as the new student responded, though realization soon followed through. Colten, eh? Well, he left a good first impression so far. Then came that question.

"So tell me besides the schooling what is your favorite thing about this place."

There was an oddly long pause in between question and answer before Lucas spoke. For awhile it looked like he already knew what to say, but was not quite sure how to say it.

“Well, I'd say its all the little secrets you can find. It's real easy to assume that the only rooms there are are the ones with obvious doors.”

Lucas chuckled a little as he rested back against the wall of the train coach.

“In fact, last year I stumbled across an old class room that could only be accessed by walking through a particular brick wall when the hour and minute were the same number. I probably would have been able to turn it into a personal hideout except that I finally got caught one night by Professor Longbottom.”

OOC: sorry guys! I meant to reply a while ago but was having a bit of a lapse in ideas on what to do! Gotta love the writers block..so sorry if this is short!

IC:
The young girl was startled at the other girls exuberance. Jessi realized then that this girl was clearly as nervous as she was. Jessi eased up a bit in this great realization. What did she really have to fear? If everyone else was as nervous as she then she had no reason to be embarrassed or shy.

"Umm no quidditch, my mother told me that was much to dangerous of a sport." She said. She didn't care if her concern of her mother's desires was a little silly. Jessi was very well convinced that her mother truly did know everything.

"Plus, it is also a very unladylike like sport." She she as-matter-of-factly.

"As for your other question, my mother thinks I would be good in hufflepuff. She said it is a very safe house and there should be a lot of really nice people." She said with a delighted smile.

"So I think I really hope to be there."

--------

"That is good to know." Lucas said making a mental note of this little secret.

"Maybe I will have to let you show me where it is. We could have some good fun there, regardless of what any teacher thinks." He said with a mischievous grin.

"I would think we just have to be a little bit more careful who see's us sneaking around the school."

Colton glanced out the window with a sigh how much longer could this train ride be? He was getting awfully tired of all this conversation he just wanted to be on his way to the school. He had business to do and things to get done.

There was a mountain of paperwork on his desk. and I mean a mountain. Somehow, even though he was great as transfiguring things, Casey had been trying a new one, something that hadn't been done before and when he attempted to create a mountain of ice cream, it had gotten mixed up with his paper work and instead of the peak of chocolate, it was peaks of boring paper. So much for that cool invention. The third years wouldn't be able to eat their first assignment. With a flick of his wand, the mountain vanished. But he had to have something cool to impress his students. First impressions counted, and more so with teenagers. Even pimple faced magic students. They had seen so much, so something had to be really cool to impress them. Something like a teapot turning into a duck wouldn't impress, what was needed was something huge enough to scare just a little, but sneaky enough to garner a chuckle from his audience. Like a dragon. But they were banned. Big time. Not since the tri wizard tournament all those years ago had their been dragons allowed.

He thought for a second. He tried to think like a nervous first year, who didn't know what to expect. Maybe he could turn a statue into a talking donkey, one that made waffles, and then.. no. There were copy-write issues surrounding that. Casey waved around his wand as he tried to think, and was about to cast a spell at a chair when a teacher walked in. Now. Before I begin telling you this, there are a few things that you need to understand. Teachers, though often thought to be a species of creature unique to themselves, are not so, they are human, and they have red blood. (Most of them, St Mungo's had seen a few strange cases. ) And when Casey saw this professor walk in, he lost his breath and just stared at her.

It was..

Well.

She was the ugliest creature he had ever, EVAR, seen.

Now, not being rude here, but some people are just hit with the ugly stick as a baby, and then some somehow get beaten so much by the ugly stick that they no longer represent a normal human. She was ugly. Damn Ugly.

"Hi, you must be the new professor. I'm...."

She noticed the stare, she always did. The first time people looked at her. It wasn't hard. She knew she wasn't pretty. She was about to face it again when the students came. But when this creep stared her down like that, it made her react in the worst way.

"Creep!"

And she walked out of the room, not looking back.

Now, so, you might now think that Casey was indeed a creep, and might even have worse names for him in your head, but you need to understand, this girl wasn't pretty. She was ugly, and it wasn't odd that Casey had stared her down. It happened a lot. But now Casey had gotten himself into trouble with somebody, and he had no idea who she was. She sounded like a really nice person. Somebody he might one day come to trust. So he ran after her.

"I"m sorry!" he shouted down the corridor as he tried to catch up. She didn't slow down for him.

He didn't even know her name.

How could he apologize to her?

While listening to Jessi, Hotaru glanced out the window; saw a village in the distance, and wondered if that was Hogsmead. Looking back to Jessi, she giggled, saying "It is kind of dangerous, isn't it? But it does look fun. As for the ladylikeness of it... Girls can play, and still be ladylike off the field."

She smiled to the girl, thinking to herself how glad she was to have someone to talk to. She hoped this would make it easier to forget that her sister wasn't around. She also hoped it would mean meeting other kids would be just as easy.

"My older sister was in Ravenclaw. I hope that is where I am sorted as well."
