I haven't seen any actual arguments in this section of the site for awhile, so I decided to bring up this one so we could have an active argument, at least for a little while.
The basis is self explanatory. What order can the 2D games possibly occur in, and where do they occur?

placement of the 2D games

Is this about that link you posted in the Kooky Theory thread? Honestly I'd say leave that argument alone.

Not entirely. I just want to see a bunch of different views on this, as well as a good argument. I can't seem to recall the last time I saw one here that lasted more than a page. I've actually wanted to make a thread like this for at least a month.
For me, the order could be ALTTP/LA-LOZ/AOL-OOX. The FSS could go anywhere, but I'm leaning towards a pre-LOZ placement. The oracles are in the same boat. I'm mostly focusing on those two areas.

Oracles are the only "controversial" games as far as placements go. My first gut instinct when playing them was that it's got to be the smae Link from ALttP and the ending with Link ending up on a boat almost made it a suitable bridge between AlttP and LA. Not that it needed a bridge but whatever. But certian things made it impossible like Zelda introducing herself to Link as if she heard of him but never met him in person and some other stuff I don't remember. People still tried to cling to Oracles leading to LA because of the whole boat thing but it's clear it's meant to be a sequel to ALttP, nothing more.
Oracles can follow some time after ALttP or LoZ since both end with Link restoring the Triforce to Hyrule, setting things up for the Triforce being in Hyrule castle prior to LoZ. I used to put Oracles between ALttP and LoZ but then I thought about how the mark appaers on Link's hand and if it had anything to do with the mark in AoL, it would make more sense if the Oracle games came after AoL. The other way around you run the problem of Impa recognizing the mark in Oracles but not mentioning anything about a Sleeping Princess. Also the mark was prophesized in AoL's backstory along with the ToC being hidden away and yet it's claerly in the castle at the start of Oracles. So at the end of the timeline is the best bet.
Then you have little easter eggs in TMC that seem to imply that it comes some time after Oracles. If these mean anything I guess you could put TMC after Oracles but not if you put Oracles after LoZ since FSA comes after TMC but has some sort of relationship with ALttP that's hard to ignore. FSA is another game taht's hard to place. It's like it's trying to be the IW of ALttP but keeps holding back and tries to be something else instead. We know TMC comes before it but nothing else. It further complicates things by introducing a new backstory for Ganon, implying that this is new Ganon, which can either greatly help or destroy a timeline depending on how it's used.
Sooo....
(TMC->FS/FSA?)->IW->ALttP/LA->(OoX?)->SZ->(TMC->FS/FSA?)->LoZ/AoL->(OoX?)->(TMC->FS/FSA?)
Personally....
IW->ALttP/LA/SZ->TMC->FS/FSA->LoZ/AoL->OoX
with ALttP Zelda being the Sleeping Zelda.
