Anyone else consider the possibility that Kafei is Link's Terminian counterpart?

It's specifically mentioned that their features are similar by Kafei's own mother, Kafei is the first person who isn't Link to be playable in Zelda and the only one in MM, and both have story arcs surrounding changing between adult and child. I'm not sure if they're really supposed to be counterparts or not, but I think it's a cool bit of parallelism and seems, at least in part, to intentionally reflect that aspect of Link's character as MM often seems to do with things from OoT.

I always thought that Fierce Deity was Link's counterpart, but that's me.

Kafei is the first person who isn't Link to be playable in Zelda....

Not true. There is always that CD-i game of which we never speak. And Showsni did a Let's Play of.

I only have one problem with the idea that Kafei is Link's counterpart: why is it that Link is the one who has to go and fix things? Why can't Kafei do it? I mean, Link did all this work to save Termina, but his heart is elsewhere; he doesn't even stay for the carnival....

I always thought it was rather obvious, at least at the time of the game, that Tingle was supposed to be Link's counterpart.

I don't think so. Kafei is not even green.

Who says Link even HAS a counterpart? Zelda and Ganondorf don't seem to have any, either (And counterparts tend to share bodies near-exactly).

Personally, I always thought of Kafei as male version of young Zelda though I could see how he'd favor Link. Then again, of kids in that particular art style look too much alike. Same nose, same chin, same big eyes, same dour expression. Do these kids even SMILE? It's more likely that he is simply an original character and if he has any counterpart at all, it might be Renado, who's probably the closest thing to seeing an adult Kafei.

Definately not a counterpart but maybe a twisted parody of Link.

Considering that Zelda and Ganondorf don't really have a counterpart in the same sense as everyone else in Termina, I personally don't think Link does either.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to say Link has to have a counterpart, just noting that it's interesting that the other guy we play as in the game, specifically said to have similar features, also has a bit of a reverse version of Link's situation in OoT. And it makes me wonder about the intentions behind all those aspects, though they may be coincidence or mean nothing.

I noticed the simmilarities. I also noticed that they're the only two characters in the game that have realistic shadows shaped like their bodies while the NPC's all have circle shadows. Which made me jokingly conclude that they were the only two rael people in the entire game and everyone else were holograms being projected by floating orbs where their "bodies" should be.

It's a literary device. They make parallels and foils between Link and Kafei to demonstrate that, even though he's not a hero, he will go to ridiculous lengths in the name of love. It's a simple case of showing that a little bit of what makes Link "Link" is in everyone. I figured this was obvious.

Maybe Tortus is Link's Terminian counterpart.

1. Anju thinks he's dead, but according to her mother he abandoned them and she's spent her life waiting for him to return. A little like that scene of Link and Ilia at the end of TP!
2. Anju's Grandmother seems to mistake you for him!

That's enough evidence to build a theory on!

I tried to go out of my way to not call this a "theory", because that's not how I ever intended to present it. There's no need to "stick it" to the logic behind said "theory" because it isn't one, I just thought it might be nice to have a discussion about the story of one game instead of every topic being about when game X falls in position to game Y. Especially since MM has quite a few smaller stories separate from the main one of which the point behind it is not necessarily definitely known. Jeez, can't catch a break...

I thought it was fairly obvious that Ganondorf is the moon. And Zelda is... um, the Deku Princess?
