Lately I was thinking about Zelda Wii and certain rumors that may or may not be true. Then a crazy thought occured to me: If we assume the rumors are true, mainly the parts about it involving time travel and faeturing the Hero of Time from OoT, could it be that the creators are trying to establish a second timeline split. Most likely that will not be the case, since that would be treading the same paths the did before and would confine the creative flow of the game's story just to fix the timeline. And would it really fix the timeline at all? Surely it would clear up some descrpencies TP created in the CT. However is this even neccessary anymore if OoT is no longer thought of as the IW and reincarnation basically being canon thanks to ST?

Still I think it would be interesting if thet could retcon TP's retcons by setting the ALttP/LoZ story arc in yet another prong of the timeline split.

Pre OoT - (FS games?)

AT - OoT ------------ TWW --- ST -- (FS games?)
CT - OoT/MM --- TP ------(FS games?)
CT2 - OoT/MM/ZWii ----- (FS Games?) ALttP/LA --- LoZ/AoL --- OoX

Theorist have tried implementing multiple timeline splits before, using OoA as well as the other time Link traveled to the past in OoT. But this would be something more concrete if they actually go down that path. Still my gut tills me ZWii will be a complete hard reboot of the series.

Considering that those rumors seem to be based only on how Link's hair looks in the poster, I'm not thinking too hard about this. My personal belief is that it will be a prequel to OoT and explain the origin of the Master Sword or something.

It's going to be the Imprisoning War, just like every other new Zelda game.

There's going to be a hidden hieroglyph on the wall of one of the dungeons that completely solves the entire timeline conundrum.

Forget about that, Nintendo are too busy with the Mario timeline now. Super Mario Galaxy 2 apparently occurs in an alternate reality to the first game. I KNEW there had to be a timeline split!

ZENZEN DAMEDA!

Super Mario Galaxy's ending involved the destruction and regeneration of the universe, so it's entirely possible that instead of a timeline split, this is actually Mario finding himself in a reconstructed reality where his adventure never happened, as a result of the cosmic retcon.

If I'm wrong, then say it in red!

Damn, you beat me to it. :P

The universe isn't destroyed as the grand finale galaxy takes place after we beat the game.

I don't have any red just yet, but... The possibility still exists that the final galaxy occurs in the recreated world! In addition, you cannot be certain that it is canon, due to being a post-game bonus feature! Or, the recreation of the universe could have shattered the timeline in two, leaving one world intact and creating an alternate reality where SMG never happened on the other!

And nobody has any idea what me and MPS are doing. :P I want to have a timeline debate with red and blue, honestly. Maybe certain people wouldn't be able to blatantly ignore entire statements and paragraphs and factual evidence and pretend that they've won the argument if they were forced to counter something in red. Though, most of the fun things to debate are sorted out anyway now... but I remember the last argument about the Miyamoto timeline I had on ZU, where there was some mass fucking stupidity and blindness to questions being repeatedly asked and facts being repeatedly pointed out, that maybe this would have helped.

Green is the only truth.

That being said, The grand finale Galaxy HAS to take place in the same univers as SMG because people congratulate you on defeating bowser.

This is fun. :P

Well, they have knowledge of what happened, but there was some sort of universal reboot in the ending. We might as well wait for the game to come out.

Green is Fourth Wall Truth, such as Translator's Notes.

Everyone could've been congratulating Mario for one of the billion other times he defeated Bowser. No big deal.

Maybe it's like Oracle of Ages, where people in Labrynna's present could see the Dark Tower being constructed in real time though it was being built hundreds of years in the past. It needn't make sense. The people at Nintendo make video games. They're not time travel physicists,

Also, I'm glad everyone found a use for my otherwise useless thread. ^^"

That was an interesting conversation. This site really needs a Mario thread like this Zelda thread. Now I know why I always come to this site.

Anyway. Back on topic. Your idea was interesting, SOAP. It is possible that Zelda Wii could cause another timeline split, but for simplicity's sake, I hope not! I agree with what Person mentioned. Miyamoto did bring attention to the fact that Link didn't have a sword in the artwork, right? That seems to be implying that this game will be an origins story of the MS.

Some of them were interesting. I've been seeing these rumors all over the net for quite some time. At least since last year. Well, e3 is next month, isn't it? It should either confirm or deny these rumors. I actually like a few of them. The third timeline split is very good.

Bowser and Mario are natural enemies in all universes. And Bowser has just as hard of a time staying dead as Ganon. I have yet to see more than one main villain from a Nintendo game series that actually dies and stays dead. I only know of one.
