I've always had this idea, and I think i've suggested it in the past, but I want to try again.

Can we rename the Controversial forum? Maybe its just me, but the the idea of "controversial" is just misleading. Not everything in there is so taboo that its a controversy. I think a title like that might even turn people away. It always sounds to me like we're discussing illegal things in there.

Possible names: The World, Debate Central, Hardball with Chris Matthews....

The title of your topic was misleading itself. I thought you were going to talk about something you shouldn't be.

Depends on what's in there... The World makes it look like a news/general section. I wouldn't know what's there anyway but I'm guessing there's a lot of religion and equal rights kinds of issues. *slack*

Exactly. Even if the name were changed, the trend would continue, and a new member could walk in and not know what he's getting into. Controversial lets people know that it's a place where things get heated, whether it's a big issue or not. So I see no problem with the current name, personally, but that's just me.

I kinda like the Hardball with Chris Mathews idea. Except maybe Hardball with Alak or Hardball with Granite or Hardball with arunma...whatever.

Eh...Drunken Bar Fight seems to do the job of warning newcomers a little too well.

Though I was a big supporter of that name back in the day, not that I ever post in there. >.>

All the same...until people start widely agreeing on a new name that fits, tells people generally what the place is, and doesn't just make people think "what geek named this place?"...well, until then it's just Contro, I guess. ^^ But hey...just keep thinking if you really wanna.

In any case, I used to think that we needed to change the name, but I've warmed up to "Controversial." That is, after all, what we discuss in there.

But you also debate about social and political issues in the world. "Controversial" makes it sound to me like the place should be talking about scandals and the like.

"Controversial" was supposed to be a temporary name anyway, when Lifestyles combined with Journalism.

Yes, but as you said, things get pretty heated, and the mere fact that heated debates are even allowed here is Controversial to some.

Still, if all the Contro Mods agree on a name change, basically just ask one of us and we'll do it - mostly.
