I want you to think back to your first geography classes, to when you are being told about Italy. You know, how it has a boot shape?

Posted Image
You can totally see it right?

Okay, now here is the thing. I accepted that Italy has a boot shape to it. But here is the thing, I always pictured the boot as being like this...
Posted Image
... with Sicily basically being the "boot" worn by the mainland/peninsula portion.

However, I was reciently looking over a map of Europe for an art history class when I started thinking, "You know, Italy is kind of wierd when you ignore the islands and just look at the peninsula part..."
Posted Image

"This cannot be!"

So I googled up on the shape of Italy to find phrases like "Italy is famous for its boot-shaped peninsula" and "It is a boot shaped peninsula jutting into the Mediterranean Sea."

...

......

.........

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME THIS SOONER?!

I never thought to look at it the first way you described the boot. I'm not sure which on I like better now.

What? I cannot for the life of me understand how you thought the boot was that shape, Ken.

Italy is clearly kicking Sicily. It's a high-heeled boot. o.o

Hooooooo man, I can't stop laughing. XDDD

I have to really strain to see it the first way. And then I only see it for a split second before my eyes adjust back to the high-heeled boot. :P

What shocks me is the fact that you think I would have seen this earlier. I don't know how I went through grade school without seeing any of the stuff showing the peninsula as the freakin' boot. I only ever heard "oh yeah, it's the country with a boot". And I never saw a picture or phrase specifying the peninsula. I mean, you figure that in all those years I would have seen at least ONE thing to indicate it. A sentence in an article. A photoshop'd picture. SOMETHING. I didn't even realize the peninsula was the boot until I came to the realization by myself! I've grown up thinking Sicily is the boot and now knowing it isn't drives me crazy!

:ahh:
AAAAAAAUUUUUUUGH!!!

... Well, at least y'all are having a good laugh at my ignorance. <_<

I've always known it as a stiletto myself.

And I'm sorry, I tried to look at your first picture and it ended up looking too...phallic for me to take seriously for half a minute. >.>;

They never needed to tell us it was the peninsula... which, in light of Chik's post above... I almost typed as "penisula" >.>

Let's look at the shape you drew to seemingly justify your first visualisation:

He's having a shit.

Hey, that's a good point. I thought something seemed off about it, but I just couldn't put my finger on it... and now I don't WANT to put my finger on it. XD

I thought of a tail. But he's bending over, and that's suspicious.

:O.o: ... aflskuehglkus gh loqrh;qowhrfq/lwkg/;lasf GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

I just skipped over that piece of land for the convenience of visualization! Besides the only reason I put a person in is for the sake of showing the vague area of where the "head" and "legs" of Italy's shape would be. The point is that the mainland looks like it is sticking a foot/leg (the southernmost tip) in a boot. I dunno, I guess I kinda thought of it as something like the feet the Goomba's had in the Mario games.

... And it has clearly just punted Sardinia.

On another note I'm sure you all know that as Norway is not in the EU, scandinavia on the back of a Euro coin reminds everyone of a giant cock and balls.

Playing soccer in stilettos? Doesn't sound very bright.

Vet... that's... unfortunate. It's all lumpy and stuff. Ew.

No, you know what I'm seeing now? The giant penis aiming itself at the raised skirt of a can-can dancer with fluffy hair (Italy/Portugal), stepping on her tiptoe (Italy). TRY TO TELL ME YOU DON'T SEE IT.
