Nah I'm all for a Zelda movie. how would I do it? Well, I would not base it off any zelda game - I'd kind of make it a unique tale while incorporating the most important aspects of Zelda. Scenes from OoT, key points from TP, ALttP, all the classic Zelda moments would be there, with fresh ones as well. A tribute to the fans, it would be.
It would have to be animated. But really high-quality animations. Like, The polar Express-style animation. I want a lively Link, a Zelda that shows emotion, an animated Midna, a truly evil Ganondorf, etc. Make it the fan's movie. Epic boss battles around every corner. Big battles. LoTR-style big. Show Link's heroic deeds as truly heroic. Make this the Zelda MOVIE. Do it right.
Actors? Well, voice actors would need to be perfect. I'm talking a Ganondorf whose deep voice makes you go "damn, that man is evil." A Link whose voice is pure and courageous. A Zelda whose voice is soft and innocent, yet strong when need be (she rules hyrule after all.) I would incorporate the King of Hyrule into the plot very heavily. He'd need a kickass voice actor. Like, a white Morgan Freeman. Needs to be authoritative, powerful, and all-around kickass. He'd have to die, of course, so it needs to be a shocker.
Side characters? Plot? Who cares!? As long as the action is solid and the dialog is cool, the plot doesn't need to make sense! This is Zelda after all. As long as the plot is Zelda-esque, I'm not complaining.
But this is just me.

Where's the "based on OoT" part? As far as I remember, that didn't quite happen in OoT, but.....Oh, you would not want me to do a Zelda movie. I would make it based on OoT. With big time romance. Link loves Zelda and Malon but ultimately chooses Malon. The ending has them ride off into the sunset on Epona. Also, Zelda is fully male when she is Sheik. And there's a Link/Sheik sex scene. :3

Also, zombie content is a given.
Epona would have to die, for the character empathy factor.
Samuel L. Jackson as a witty, comical, foul-mouthed Sage.
Christopher Walken as Ganon.

...For some reason, I think I would really enjoy a movie like that...Romantic comedy. Matthew McConaughey as Link, saving kingdoms in between simultaneously courting multiple women, whom all find out about his infidelities. Hilarity ensues.

I kind of want an homage to the scene in the ALttP manual where Ganon kills all of his minions to claim the Triforce with bloodstained hands.
The quest should homage some of the dungeons in the game, but not follow them directly. have it be more of an Indiana Jones-esque adventure than "Find plot macguffins in the eight dungeons then go to Ganon's castle."
We also need to see Link's uncle as the "Obi-Wan" figure, and stick around for a little longer before he gets killed off.
As for the romantic aspect, Link/Zelda is kind of cliche, and the games seem to be drifting away from that pairing. Maybe have Malon or Ilia as the love interest. But it's important that they don't "live happily ever after." Something in all of the Zelda games seems to imply that Link is a fundamentally changed person after his adventures, and can't ever just settle down with a woman after saving the world. The ending of TP would imply this the most, as would the entirety of MM and LA. But most importantly, this aspect would allow for sequels.

-We'd see the creation story as a mix of the one from the ALttP manual and the stories from OoT, with a narration mainly based off of the ALttP manual.
-We'd see the populace warring over the Triforce. It'd be pointed out that these conflicts were brutal and lasted a long time, basically being the "bloody history of greed and hatred" mentioned in OoT. During these wars we'd see quick cameos from certain bosses, the Twili's ancestors, places like the Shadow Temple (with Sheikah torturing people), etc.
-Ganon would just be a mere thief who claims the Triforce after surviving his gang's battle over it. A lowly thief getting the Triforce would be portrayed as ironic, considering all of the kings and nobles who sought to claim it.
-At some point the Sages' seal would truly break and the realms would be connected again, probably near the end.
-The intro would either be narrated by Sahasrahla or Link's uncle. If narrated by Link's uncle, the intro would wrap up as a tale being told to Link by his uncle before Link goes to bed.
I'm not sure if the Dark World should really be explored much. The world-hopping thing works for a game, but it probably wouldn't pan out as well for a movie. The plot would also have to be changed around because of the dungeons.

And you can put me on the "make a new story" boat. I think the Zelda series lends itself rather well to reimagining. It's bascially all Nintendo do with it.

However, the real money would come from the rushed, money-grab, video game of the movie.

New original story, CG animation similar to that of Advent Children (not necessarily the best movie but HOT DAMN, those are some good graphics) closer to the original SNES game than OoT of TP, back when Zelda was in it's golden age for the era of Link x Sheik. Link would have a voice, someone fresh and new but not a hack. Not too keen with Zelda or Ganon, no ideas for their voices. Something similar to their grunts in SSB.

Have Ganon end up screwing himself over as a result of an elaborate scheme split into small event chains that come together at the end. Watch it twice to figure it out cos the cuts are so fast. Sometimes double-speed.

Oh! And all the traditional female love interests (Malon, Saria, Marin, Ilia, ect) will all be replaced by hot guys whom Link has plenty of Ho Yay moments with. Except Zelda who will be played by Megan Fox and will have no romantic interest in Link whatsoever. She will be there just to look pretty and keep straight people from catching on to my secret plan to turn everyone gay. *cough-cough*
You'd have to put a gun to my head make sure I DON'T make this movie.

With lots of shirtless moments for Link. He will be played by Kellan Lutz and only spend five minutes of the two hour feature actually fully dressed.
I misread that as Kellan Lulz at first. Which seemed oddly appropriate when I read the rest of your

Bloody hell, you're not asking for much are you? Seriously with a gun to the head all one can wonder is how they ever got in this dire situation to start with. So, as the topic title suggests, I want you to envision how YOU would do a Zelda movie. You can't give the "I wouldn't" answer, there's a gun to your head man! Perhaps this will be moved to the General Discussion section, but I'm particularly interested in how the story and land would be approached by y'all, so I decided to post it here...anyway, I'm looking forward to responses...
Jokes aside, you asked for a response and you'll get one (you won't like it though). First things first, we need to get style right. A movie based on the Zelda games wouldn't last five minutes from the critics if it were live action, you can't mimic golden oldies like Dark Crystal, neither grasp the entire cinematic storytelling contained in the NeverEnding Story and yet, still expect to keep people's interest.
A Zelda movie for this reason should be animated much in the art style of Samurai Jack if it's to impress anyone; Hyrule needs to be fleshed out like Alice through the Looking Glass, yet a sad dead/dying world in a state of former glory, overwhelmed by greed.
Now characters...as far as main cast goes, Link needs to youthful, yet mature, constantly aware of his surroundings, calm and cool regardless of the situation. His personality has to be one of the Good Samaritan - he's always willingly to help someone in need. It's important for audiences to feel immersed with the fantasy world and that can only happen if Link has as little dialogue as possible, that said, we don't want a cardboard cut-out protagonist, but it's safe to say Link's actions must speak louder than his words.
Zelda has to be intelligent, warm, and a powerful leader who puts people's interests ahead of her own, nevertheless she is young and makes mistakes due to her inexperience. Her eternal optimism often makes her blind to the evil in people's hearts.
Ganon can start out as a handsome red haired man, unlike how the game usually depicts him as a grumpy fart, he should look originally like this:

But with oddly sinister eyes and wicked expressions who later obtains the Triforce of Power then has the appearance of a pig/boar monster, following the game's plot after that he will require an unusual charismatic personality outwardly in order to inspire viewers, a strange politeness towards nobility and royalty, and yet all the while clearly demonstrating a boiling frustration, much like the virus Megabyte from ReBoot, a need to dominate and bend others wills to his own dark designs beneath these seemingly pleasant platitudes. Beneath that again the full extend of his greed and utter savagery becomes transparent towards the film's climax.
Okay plot, and oh dear this is not going to be by any stretch of the imagination a simple walk in the park. >____< Narrative storytelling is out, the characters tell the story, not some disembodied gruff voice. You can't just have your cliché good vs. evil storyline either, well not if you don't want this to suck of course, you need character *development* and that can only take place with several subplots that reach culmination towards the end, and how exactly anyone can fit all that into 1-2hr featurette I have no idea.
I'd hazard one such subplot can feature surprise twists along the way such as Link coping with his own desires, he starts out pure, but eventually the strain of fighting the endless minions of Ganon coupled with an increasingly alarming lust for the Triforce's complete power turns Link into a dark shadowy being, and is potentially going to become a more heartless ruler than Ganon, forcing a weakened Zelda to defend the Triforce of Wisdom from him, these keep people's fascination just when you thought they were out of woods. (I'm ripping from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings corruption/temptation scenes here aren't I?)
That's it I'm exhausted and out of worthwhile ideas, I'll recharge and submit some more substantial thoughts later.

Hyrule, a land of wonder, a land of terror. The King of Hyrule is slowly dying. In his last moments, he entrusts his daughter Zelda with the knowledge of the mystical Triforce, a treasure given to the Hylians by the Three Goddesses. But with the death of the King comes tumultuous times. The King's advisors fight for the throne, as Zelda is too young to assume the responsibilities of being the ruler of the Kingdom. A young boy from a small village is fighting nightmares by night and strange creatures by day, and a great evil is growing, hidden, in the Kingdom.
In truth, the death of the King lifted the last of several weak barriers across the realm. Soon, evil begins to pour into Hyrule, and a Great Demon King rises up to conquer the land. Link, the young boy, is tasked by his Master to go into Hyrule Castle and deliver an urgent message to a woman named Impa. Soon, Link is involved in the plot to save Hyrule from it's mysterious attacker, tasked to find the Princess Zelda who has been put under hiding and guard and find the Triforce before someone else gets their hands on it...
The final battle for the souls of Hyrule rests on these three figures and their seperate Destinies as the Knights of Hyrule, old and new, gather to combat the growing darkness...
